60 of 195 · most liked firstKingsgrave is a puzzle exploration game with a unique structure and a lot of jank. You'll spend a lot of time pushing at the edges of the map, trying to find the resources you need to unlock that next ability, which in turn will give you access to more of the map. The puzzles are not too bad, and the under-tutorializing of the mechanisms leads to some great "aha" moments, but there's also a lot of frustration to be had. Warping around the map to trade resources for other resources quickly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The looks and even feel are great, but this game has some really weird issues. First and foremost with pacing! I was at the end of the game, less than an hour from accidentally stumbling into the final boss, before I got access to the materials for for like 80% of the upgrades. suddenly went from "I have the base damage upgrade" to "I have 4 entire trees filled" in minutes. And the final boss was disappointing in the weirdest way. I honestly wasn't sure he was the final boss until partway…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An indie Zelda-clone with almost no world-building, leaning on fast-paced combat closer to Bastion's. I devoured it entirely in a few sessions, but it's complicated to untangle whether credit goes to the game itself or the ages since I last indulged my Zelda nostalgia. I had a similar experience a lifetime ago with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, where I finished wondering. "Why isn't this more popular?" This time, I think I know why. Two common complaints show up all over other reviews,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unique mash-up of Zelda-like, survival crafting and puzzles but horrible execution with some jank issues. Got filtered by 1st arena and I actually did explore everywhere else I could go but didn't find anything that would help. Pity that I have to refund this because I thought the concept is solid but mostly buried under severe jank. Some feedback for the dev: * the game is too dark, could use brightness setting * crossbow aiming feels terrible, maybe add auto-aim option * enemies are too…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kingsgrave mixes together exploration, puzzle solving, resource collection, adventure, and metroidvania advancement to create a rather unique experience. The game loop requires you to kill enemies and collect resources, use those resources to restore buildings that give new abilities, and use those abilities to explore new areas. As you explore, you find puzzles to solve, kingdom citizens to rescue, secrets, and a lot of doors you can’t open yet. On the whole, the game repeatedly offers a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My save was deleted after completing the game. This bug was reported by people last year and still hasn't been fixed. As for the game itself, it's short and barely has any depth. Mediocre at best.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My standards for a game are not particularly high. I just want one well made or at least interesting aspect, and I'm usually happy. I can live with games with clunky combat but a good story or poor visuals, but interesting resource management decisions. This game is has the basics in these categories, but nothing else. I think there could be something here if the creators refined at least one aspect of the game, whether it be combat, management, story or visuals. As it is, it just feels…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good short game totally worth for the price. Tip if you want to make the most out of it: dont do any weapon upgrade, otherwise it will be so easy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got softlocked because I used resources that you cant get more at the time. Im not going to replay it anymore even without considering that game is super low quality
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just no. Combat was terrible. Your weapons are ♥♥♥♥, enemies are damage sponges, and the few weapons that have some advantage are rendered useless when you meed the wood enemies who are immune to everything except ax damage, and the ax is the worst thing of all to use. Like I don't know what to tell you. I'm trying. I'm doing all the ♥♥♥♥ you'd expect. The weapon is just garbage. Narrow hit box, little to no damage even against enemies who are weak to it, and the wind up is so slow. You can't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun old-school game of puzzle solving, combat, and exploration. Worth $10. Please allow us to remap keys though - I don't know why that's not a thing in 2024 when a lot of us are left handed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is only around 8h long, but that's ok, not everything has to be 100hrs+. It's also cheap, so i think it's worth the price. Story is...not really there, it's more like: here's the situation and you have to do this and that and there is some conclusion at the end. But it's enough, because gameplay is fun. For me it felt like a short spin-off to Graveyard keeper, focused on combat and puzzle solving, with simplified building and crafting. Also exploration feels pretty good in Kingsgrave.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game can be summed up with a single word: clunky.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall I think the game is fine. It suffers in a few areas but in the end I felt compelled to finish the game and had a good time doing so. The biggest issue with the game, for me, is that it's not always clear where to go. There's something to be said for not having a big yellow arrow that tells you everything to do, but at the same time at least 1 of the 9.4 hours I put into this game was spent wandering around the map trying to find the path I had forgotten to take.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah,. don't spend more than 1-2$ on this. It's very low effort, basic "go break some barrels, build something here, progress". It's got zero things that really make it unique. It's basic. Decent graphics, and no real bugs yet, but find it in a bundle at fanatical or such and you can kill a few hours with it. Otherwise, don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kudos to the developers, there are some satisfying moments where you solve a puzzle when you pay attention to the environment or your skill tree. And thank goodness you can just teleport every area you unlock. But there is nothing to get invested about in the story or characters. None of the "choices" matter. The "revelation" at the ending was just, so lackluster it made me question having spent 5 hours on it to finish it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing #Kingsgrave a great game. I died during a boss fight. I was so into it i got tunnel vision. #flowerplustron #twitch #indiegame
unlabelledView post →combat is boring and rough. the game has a wide map but is actually on rails by gating off areas, only serving to make it hard to figure out where to go sometimes. the puzzles / mechanics beyond combat were either very simple or hard to understand what is being asked of you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not what I was expecting at all (I was expecting something more Zelda-Like or maybe RPG), but a fun indie game nevertheless. Don't really know how to describe it but if I had to take a shot I would say twin stick action locked behind gated areas you open through resource gathering.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An okay short game, between Zelda and Dark Souls. 7 hours to complete it, only buy it on sales.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, a pretty refreshing counterpoint to current trends, and a nice throwback. It's a fairly straightforward 2D top down combat/puzzle "progression" game. Hesitant to label it as 'RPG', since the roleplaying was always a flimsy tag, but hey. It's what we got. What makes it a nice throwback, is that the whole level is hand crafted and fixed. No 'procedural generation', but that's what makes it good and interesting. It's not perfect of course. The weapon balance is a bit wonky. With…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a relatively easy and short little hand drawn adventure. Most area's become permanently cleared once properly beaten. The world is fairly linear, in that you require a new weapon or element to proceed. The last boss is only difficult if you weren't thorough, i upgraded everything, the only achievements i missed were taking damage from specific mobs and dying, lol. If you want a much longer game kind of similar to this, i'd strongly suggest Dysmantle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR Boring, bland and nothing that could be considered worthy of your time. Contrary to the Steam tags this is neither an RPG nor does it have puzzle elements. -------------------------------- Pros: Overall look and feel Artstyle is alright -------------------------------- Cons: Gameplay Hitboxes don't match visuals at all. Enemies are going to hit you while the animation is on the other side of the screen Hitbox of your attacks don't align with the visuals either You character can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great litle game. PROS + fun CONS - it is easy to get stuck, not knowing where to go to progress further (aka grind for sword) - buggy achievements NEUTRAL ° short ° sometimes hard
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An aggressively linear game posing as a resource gathering RPG. Unlock a new ability, gather exactly EVERY resource you can now access, use those resources to unlock a new ability, repeat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kingsgrave opens with a strong, melancholic hook: a fallen king, long dead, stirred back to life in a kingdom drowned in plague and shadow. Egg or Chicken Games and Alawar build their adventure around the idea of reclamation—of land, of power, and of identity. From the moment you awaken, the world feels wounded yet evocative, a pixel-art realm stitched together with dark forests, smoldering ruins, and half-abandoned villages. The art direction leans heavily into a somber fantasy tone that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keybindings are awkward and unchangeable. Doesn't hold your hand or explain much so it is up to you to figure out things, which I liked. But after you enter the first difficult fight and find that one annoying keybind(dash for me) and then you can't change it? Not worth it at even 90% off, unfortunately.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Took me maybe 6ish hours to get everything and all the achievements. oh the one where it says damage by thorns? It's actually damage by spikes. So you have to get that before you get iron shoes. Or you'll have to start a new game like I did. Highly recomend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once upon a time, when tigers still smoked, our king defeated the Huns, expanded his territory, cleared farmland, and reduced taxes to ensure the safety of farmers. He spent his life working for the well-being of the people, and soon he grew old and wanted to sleep for a while. After a while, the king woke up and the peaceful kingdom was gone and the whole place was in disarray. The kingdom was probably devastated because the descendants did not cooperate and fought among themselves. The…

You can pause the game again while the settings window is…

unlabelledView post →Excellent journey of a game with a downright TERRIBLE finale and postgame. The progression pacing can be a little bit of a grind at times, but never bad enough to get really annoying. Achievements are pretty buggy- not a big deal to me, but some will unlock early and others will not unlock when they should. At 10 bucks or so, you’ll get about 8-10 hours if you a stick with it to maybe 80-90% complete.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short game, appropriate for kids, nothing amazing though. Only two or three puzzles were kind of hard but only because they weren't puzzles you just needed a weapon upgrade to pass. The game is like a top-down metroidvania. The mechanics of saving villagers and build structures are akin to get a new ability to unlock another part of the map, nothing of managing resources, bases or people. Some grind may be required to unlock everything or to progress if you spend more than you should in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The clunky combat and refusal to give any guidance makes it hard to recommend. 3/10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dude... you made a game with zero tutorial or guide of what to do and where to go... This is clearly a great idea, but lost on players that have no clue what to do next... No quest line... no way to figure out how the puzzles even work... 2/10 Finish the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who has memory problems, having no way of knowing where I was going previously or where I am meant to go is extremely frustrating. I went to sleep IRL, woke up, tried playing this and just had no idea of where to go, the map is no help at all either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had to wait to review until the game had support for Playstation controllers, but now it does! As such, I can confidently say that it's very enjoyable. It handles smoothly, and the game world is structured in such a way that the next step is usually clearly laid out, and even with multiple options for what you want to prioritize next. I enjoy the aesthetic, and while I don't have a firm grasp on anything significant story-wise, the gameplay is enough to keep me going. A solid recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is trash. Terrible unrewarding mandatory exploration, everything is basically a giant fetch quest, combat is an absolute braindead slog, and the final boss is just AOE spam that requires you to either spend half an hour running around it poking single hits before dodging away, or run around grinding resources for twice that long just so you can up your damage to only spend 20 minutes running around in circles hunting and pecking instead. Do not buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thoroughly enjoyed playing Kingsgrave! This game brings back the nostalgic vibes of the original Zelda with its charming graphics and immersive world. The puzzles are cleverly designed, offering a satisfying challenge without feeling impossible. The gameplay is engaging and keeps you hooked from start to finish. If you're a fan of classic adventure games, Kingsgrave is a must-play. Highly recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little indi game. Fun to explore and find all the little secrets. Not very hard or time consuming. Not a game of the year, but something I had fun with and would recommend as a quick little palate cleanser in-between other games. Pick this up its worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/43083373/]Clever games curator review: 9/10. Equal parts Twin stick A-RPG / Metroidvania / puzzle game. This fairly unique mix turns out to work out quite well. No single element dominates over the others, although it is definitely more action heavy than puzzle heavy. At first your attacks are mostly melee, but you’ll discover ranged weapons and eventually even power them up enough to make them actually useful. Early on the game feels fairly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's quite good, but feels slow. There's no real direction of where to go and you need certain items to unlock weapons to progress through the game. I love the Art direction and loading screens, but its lacking clarity and it can be difficult at times.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short but enjoyable. Hopefully if the dev works on another game they take what they did here, add to it and make it larger.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat is straightforward but engaging, exploration is pretty nice and puzzles are fairly simple - i wish there was something more involved - but overall very good. Art and sound are well done, overall recommended if you feel like spending about a dozen hours to complete it to 100%. Would be cool to see a sequel or something on this same note but with a much bigger map to explore and a way to rebuild your city/castle over time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not fun. You are constantly stuck looking for a way to progress and no help on the map.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So good. I mean sooo good!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was able to put about 12 hours into the game before growing bored with its back and forth movement. for a single map game its a fun time, but certain achievements are locked after you make too much progress and I cant see myself making a new character just to fix them. normally 10$, but often found on large discount. for less than 1$ for entertainment, its worth the time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thoroughly enjoyed Kingsgrave! Rich map with lots of little puzzles and battles whilst surrounded by glorious artwork. You can indeed play this game in one (albeit long) sitting, I'd say 8-10 hours. I however played for a couple hours on stream and then it became my game to play on my free time, the design allows you to work on a single area/unlock at a time if you so choose.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty enjoyable game considering I got it on sale. Start with a single weapon and slowly build a small arsenal of weapons and abilities as you progress through the map. Most of the puzzles are simple, only one of them gave me some trouble (the one with three levers in a triangle). Combat is tricky at the start, but with new weapons and upgrades, the tough opponents are eventually easy to beat. Nothing too special in the way of the story, but I would recommend it for a couple hours of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kingsgrave is a fine little Zelda-esque game. Not spectacular, just fine. Having to farm life essence for other resources can get tedious, and the hit detection of some weapons (the spear) could be a lot better. The main thing that could improve this game is having a lot more kingdom rebuilding. I want to do more than just build up some shacks for resources and weapons/abilities. Make it feel more like the kingdom building in, say, Little King's Story, The setting is good, but the story itself…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a chill and short indie game, not much replayability,, but worth for what it is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, balanced difficulty and intuitive puzzles with very little hand holding.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm borderline on this. The game isn't offensively bad. The soundtrack is surprisingly pleasant, it his a nice visual aesthetic, and it works. If this had been released on SNES back in "the day", it might even be considered good. Now, though? No story, combat feels bad, lots of jank, grindy, and the game is very bad at giving you direction. I couldn't find anything else on "Egg or Chicken Games", but I would be interested to see what they come up with next. It's short and not terrible, so if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to love in Kingsgrave. It reminds me of Soulblazer and Alundra! Unlocking routes and and weapons and upgrades is addictive. The base game design is just fantastic. I completed in 7 hours. But it's seriously lacking polish. Controls are poor. UI is bad. Combat is tedious and frequently unfair. It's worth overlooking the issues though. Here's hoping the dev spends more time on polish for their next game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like one of those games where the devs are just working things out and the sequel ends up incredible. It's still a nice, short experience however and deserves more attention than it has. Oh I will add however not being able to rebind keys is obscene. Especially when the dash is attached to shift and not space. AutoHotKey is your friend here.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a really good game. It's mostly a puzzle game with light story and light combat. Some minor issues: * It could explain a bit better different damage types, as it was a bit frustrating for a bit why I'm doing nearly no damage to some enemies, but it ended up being just fine. * I'm slightly annoyed at being stuck at 199/200 lights of hope and missing one of the achievements, but it happens.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was having fun until the game bugged and I cannot press a progression switch. Completed all the areas afforded to me, one switch ie a path was left. The path is bugged. Saw a review (I didnt want to blame game I figured I was being an idiot and missing something obvious as most gamers are) and yeah, this game occasionally can just softlock bug. So I'm done for now till it gets patched unfortunately. I was enjoying what I had to that point so I WOULD return once its patched! :D If a patch comes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good "Zelda-like" game. You get to explore a bit but the map isn't too big so you remember where are the places you cannot advance without item/upgrade, there's a good sense of progression regarding unlocks/upgrades and it has the right amount of playtime. Story is whatever but honestly, no one plays this type of games for the rich story in it (the ending is lackluster though). Perfect for Steam Deck (only issue I had with performance was with the map open, but it was a minor issue).
