60 of 109 · most liked firstI’m watching the film King Richard. It’s a difficult movie for me to watch because so much of it rings glaringly true about my own tennis days. For those who don’t know, I played semi-pro tennis from the ages of 9-19…

unlabelledView post →Don’t get me wrong, I would love some really interesting Robin Hood takes! Girl Robin Hood! The sheriff is secretly Robin Hood! King Richard is really a girl and is also Robin Hood! Comedy Robin Hood! A movie entirely about Friar Tuck! But no, he must be grim and gritty and dirty and solemn.
unlabelledView post →All this for "King Richard," a movie no one's thought about since
unlabelledView post →Watching a silent movie that suggests King Richard wouldn’t have gone heroically crusading if not for the love of a woman. So. Yes. About that.

unlabelledView post →At the mam's house. She asked if I'd seen the film about the medieval monarch she'd seen in her TV guide, as it looked right up my street. On investigation, she was referring to 'King Richard', a film about a tennis coach 🫠
unlabelledView post →Town cryer says, "News has come from Vienna! Leopold of Austria has seized King Richard as he returned from the Crusades!" YES! This is only the second movie to even attempt to acknowledge Richard got his ass captured in Austria and was imprisoned until Eleanor paid an ungodly ransom!

unlabelledView post →I think the funniest thing about this Robin Hood/not Robin Hood film drama is the possibility that US distributors genuinely don't know which King Richard is which.
unlabelledView post →So the director and co-writer of The Punisher: One Last Kill is Reinaldo Marcus Green. His film King Richard was nominated at the Oscars for Best Picture at one point. Also made Monsters and Men (and I suspect that movie Jon Bernthal handpicked himself) and Joe Bell.
unlabelledView post →Focus, Brilliant performance, great heist movie. He's great in King Richard, lots of internality to the role too. He's great in Suicide Squad, like far better than you'd expect. The Bad Boys are getting funner He's excellent in I Am Legend Enemy of the State too.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching KING RICHARD (2021). Director: Reinaldo Marcus Green. Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Some people thought Smith's Oscar-winning performance slapped (see what I did there?), but I was more moderate. Rewatch. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →There’s a movie coming out about here called Spark. Directed by Anthony Mackie and starring Saniyya Sidney (Venus Williams from King Richard). It’s based in the National Book Award winning “Twice Towards Justice” by Phil Hoose. It won in the young adult category, but it’s great read for anyone.
unlabelledView post →‘King Richard’ (2021) is now streaming on Netflix U.S. The film stars Will Smith, Demi Singleton, and Saniyya Sidney.
unlabelledView post →I would love a Robin Hood film to break from the Prince John/King Richard setting.
unlabelledView post →the way King Richard appeared in the very last scene of the movie & had only two lines but was still the gay furry awakening for so many young men... A very talented lion he is <3
unlabelledView post →I didn't realize it was from the director of KING RICHARD, which explains how they got Robert Elswit to shoot it. (It looks like a movie, and not a Marvel one.)
unlabelledView post →Will Smith is excellent in King Richard imo. Such a shame the events at the Oscars with 'Slapgate' have overshadowed his performance in this film.
unlabelledView post →"May I obey all your commands with equal pleasure, sire." A great end to a great movie. #1938Robin #TCMParty The 1922 film ends with King Richard jealously banging on the door of Robin and Marian's bedchamber. Pre-code days.

unlabelledView post →So I looked it up and Sean Connery was 61 years old when he appeared in this film as King Richard. Richard was only 37 at this point in history and died at age 41. I will say that I like that everybody kneels...except Akeem who is a bit confused at what he should do.
unlabelledView post →Oh wait, that checks out. There’s a scene in the 1938 film that is absolutely about Hoovervilles and soup kitchens. King Richard is FDR.
unlabelledView post →So I found out Price did a 1962 movie called Tower of London where he plays none other than King Richard III. Shakespeare by way of Roger Corman! Poster says: DO YOU HAVE THE COURAGE TO SPEND 83 MINUTES IN THE TOWER OF LONDON? www.imdb.com/title/tt0056...
unlabelledView post →Along with the 6 degrees of Separation, not only did Connery appear as King Richard in the Costner film, his son Jason Connery played Robin Hood in the 1980s series Robin of Sherwood. Which ties with Flynn for my favourite cinematic Robin adaptation. #TCMParty #RandM76
unlabelledView post →I really wish "King Richard" used this book as a guide to tell his story. So many gems and revelations that would have helped the film have more depth and tell HIS actual story. -- So Good Rating - 4.5 / 5 #BookSky

unlabelledView post →Movie: King Richard (Netflix) This was actually a sweet movie. Regardless of how Richard Williams is as a person in reality, we should all know by now how Hollywood biographies go and as a Hollywood biography, this was great. I say that as someone who doesn't enjoy tennis. #filmsky
unlabelledView post →The Robin Hood legend traditionally takes place in the reign of King Richard I (as does the film), well before transition to Early Modern English and the Great Vowel Shift that came with it. In other words, the English accent of the time would've been very different then Cary Elwes's English accent.
unlabelledView post →Aww!!😫 I was a teen. My recollection—& I do NOT mean to dump on your movie, this is JUST what I recall thinking in the theater—is: Rickman being GREAT & seeming to be in a totally dif't film, Costner sounding as British as Matthew McConaughey, & a Scottish King Richard being hysterically funny.
unlabelledView post →King Richard. I love this movie. I also love Will Smith's performance.
unlabelledView post →He is correct. King Richard didn’t spend much time in England. Even less in this film that seems to cut out his return to England in 1194 before fighting in France. #TCM #TCMParty #RandM76
unlabelledView post →I think a good Robin Hood movie would be King Richard leaves his kid in the castle alone and he has to beat Robin Hood up with a bunch of traps.
unlabelledView post →ok, never heard of it. I think i assumed it was yet another reality show. The last tennis movie I watched was King Richard.

unlabelledView post →also I love that this episode is shamelessly “King Richard with murder”, and there’s nothing wrong with that. turn every notable prestige-y movie into the basis of a murder plot imo.
unlabelledView post →Fun fact: Thea Frodin portrayed young Serena Williams in the movie King Richard.
unlabelledView post →Tower of London (1939) - a historical horror movie that literally turns King Richard III (Basil Rathbone) into a horror movie villain, with his executioner Mord (Boris Karloff) doing Richard’s bloody dirty work. It doesn’t QUITE stick the landing as a horror movie, but it’s an interesting watch.

unlabelledView post →When you said "Air," I was thinking it was Don't Look Up, which everyone lauded, and I felt was barely a movie. I'd been warned away from Maestro by critiques online and a couple of friends who saw it. I like King Richard tho' (to my own surprise). What were your issues w/it?
unlabelledView post →Remember when people used to say history was boring? Now I think a lot about the "storytelling" around it. Of course this is as old as time. Silly example (from recent TCM viewings), but compare the King Richard the Lionheart in the Errol Flynn Robin Hood movie to the one in Robin and Marian.
