It's a project I'm still very proud of, and marks a massive change in my life as I have been a full time dev ever since 🐟 To celebrate, next Thursday I will be launching something with @lostincult.co.uk sign up here: eepurl.com/iuomJA

In those 5 years I’ve put out 3 games and 3 dlc episodes thanks to some fantastic collaborators and the support of my publisher Fellow Traveller.
unlabelledView post →This April it's the 5 year anniversary of In Other Waters (more on that later 😘) so I've been thinking about the game a lot. One of the things I am happiest with its the systemic little stalk scraper who plays about on the title screen, eating, exploring, and getting scared off by a signal stalk.

Gareth has already graced us with successful sci-fi games, including In Other Waters (2020) and Citizen Sleeper (2022). 🔥
unlabelledView post →I should also mention that my first game In Other Waters, also presented prose text vertically (and dialogue horizontally) kind of hybridising the two approaches. There was probably some Sunless Sea (the CRPG that isn’t a CRPG) in the mix too!
unlabelledView post →I wanted to like this game. Mystery exploration games in unusual settings are right up my alley, bonus points if they are a little oddball in their presentation. This theoretically should fit that bill. I loved the beautiful UI, and the idea of acting as an assistant AI was unique. I also enjoyed the xenobiology cataloging gameplay. There is some minor, forgivable clunkiness: the movement is rather odd, and despite some “options” presented, it’s really quite linear. The real problem was the…

unlabelledView post →You can get two of my all time favs Paradise Killer and In Other Waters both for less than 10 Euro, thats a steal. PK is a stylish banger detective Adv game on a tropical island and IOW is a cool as hell minimalistic simulation game about exploring an alien underwater planet's biosphere. Get em

unlabelledView post →I finished the game. This game is interesting but lacks any semblence of depth... which ironic given that it's all about diving! I think the game really made me consider the world and the things I was finding. I kept expecting to be able to interact with everything as I slowly figured out the controls. Unfortunately, that isn't what this game is about. You're not exploring anything past the first 2 minutes in which the game teaches you the controls. Once the game properly picks up you'll be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't drop this game. If you are in any way interested in biology and/or conservation, as well as xenobiology way better thought-out than all of which is seen in mainstream media PLAY THIS. It's minimalism is it's biggest strength. It took my a while to realize that and to explain it would ruin the experience. It is worth it. Please play this. And if you are anything like me, E.V's last entry's paragraph will make you cry.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i don't know whether to reccommend this as a game, but i felt things, so i will at least reccommend it as a piece of art
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is beautifully written, with interesting characters and an engrossing setting. It also has truly gorgeous visuals; I really enjoy how much it does with a UI that appears minimalistic at first. Many people love this game, and I won't say they're wrong to. ...but the largely gameplay consists of crawling along a handful of functionally-linear paths one point at a time, with a total of four button presses (scan, highlight, begin movement, commit to movement) between each point on those…

unlabelledView post →I absolutely loved this one. It's a simpler game than Citizen Sleeper but also feels way more focused an experience and the sheer ambition to create a believable ecosystem is astounding. All the research into different species really lets you use your imagination. Should you choose to catalogue all the species not only does the game reward you with intricate descriptions and artworks but also a slightly different ending. Moving around is slow and requires adjusting your course in what is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →top 10 fav games ever genuinely if you like reading/text-based games you will love this one. Slightly tedious but worth it for the lore unlocks. reviewing 2 years after finishing bc i genuinely feel fondness for the 8~h played everytime i see this in my library. it is, however, not very replayable. HUD makes the world feel so alive i know it sounds silly but they truely nailed it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I forgot to announce stream but it happened - Metro + Voicemeeter is scuffed as balls but… we ball. In Other Waters though, man that game is amazing THANK YOU TO THE LOVELY @netrunnervt.bsky.social FOR THE RAID (and tech support) We threw everyone at @illithsailing.bsky.social >:3
unlabelledView post →In Other Waters suffers from a slightly slow start that I will admit has initially put me off, however powering through it is so worth it. Once the story intrigue stuck its fingers in me I was kinda hooked and wanted to learn more. Of course this kinda depends on whether text heavy games are your thing, but if they are, this game is a unique treat. The interface you're presented with is such an incredible part of interfacing with the world that makes so much sense! At first it feels a little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty good, a walking simulator with a different interface. A nice science fiction story, which is kind of my soft spot. Well worth it if you're short on time (I finished the main story in four hours) and especially on a discount.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In Other Waters fanart, loved the game so much 💛
unlabelledView post →Played through the first act of Ambrosia Sky. Very neat game with a great visual style, although i'm not sure i understand its save system. Somehow reminds me of In Other Waters, but not entirely made of graphic design - which is both a blessing and a curse.
unlabelledView post →Immersive and relaxing game. The controls, visuals and audio come together wonderfully to create great atmosphere and the dialogue, research and decently written notes really sell the feeling of exploration and discovery. Some may find the game boring, I'd get that (I ducked out on my first playthrough). Some may find the controls "clunky", but for me that's part of the immersion factor - similar to Scavenger SV-4, DeltaV or Duskers the fiddlier inputs and UI design gives a better feeling of…

unlabelledView post →Beautiful game, great story, excellent atmosphere. However, movement mechanic becomes tedious pretty quickly
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing In Other Waters after seeing it on @nocapsbb.bsky.social's deep sea games video. The fact that that video was the first time i've heard of this game in 6 years since release is an utter failure of whatever's left of gaming coverage and media. Not a peep. Absolutely outrageous.
unlabelledView post →a short but very lovely game. very interesting perspective to play through the UI alone. the visuals through the constraint of UI and the depth of vision this game has is really breathtaking. i came here to scratch the xenobiology itch that scavengers reign has left behind and got a much less hotile but equally lovely taste of it instead.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful but tedious as the control scheme is designed to make everything take as many actions as possible, the idea may be to make the game more immersive but you're an AI so I don't think it would really have that much trouble with basic actions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The UI is lovely and the sound design is great. The writing is ok, if a little prone to telegraphing what we're supposed to be thinking. I can forgive slow gameplay, but the entire interface (which is most of the gameplay) is deeply tedious and repetitive. It honestly feels like actions that should take one click require four simply to draw out the experience. Movement is node based, and each node-transition takes multiple clicks, with transition animations each time. If navigation was done in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I often like slow-paced, narrative heavy media other people find boring, but this gameplay is so unbearably tedious I couldn't handle it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unmistakably beautiful game, I loved every single second of exploring Gliese 667Cc's oceans.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pretty good. It seemed like a strange choice to make a game about exploring an alien planet as a mostly text-based game, instead of, you know, a game where you can actually see all the cool alien stuff, but the writing and audio design were good enough to keep me engaged all the way through. The game is about the right length for what it is and there are some interesting science fiction concepts, so it's worth checking out if it seems like the kind of thing you would be into.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jumping into this game after playing Gareth's other games Citizen Sleeper 1 and 2, I believe this was one of his first projects before the Citizen Sleeper series. I actually went in blind on this much like I did the first Citizen Sleeper and while I did enjoy my short time with this one, I can definitely say it didn't have the same impact that the Citizen Sleeper games did. It is a simple game, you are exploring the ocean of another planet and discovering all the mysteries that present…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story seems interesting, but I'm just not interested in the movement mechanics unfortunately. It was an interesting puzzle to figure out, but after you figure it out it gets tedious very quickly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big nerd who uses games to decompress from the week, I had to join in on this. If we can't tell, I love me an indie game that hits me in my emotions. Another Crabs Treassure and In Other Waters are both games I think people should play. They have wonderful stories to tell
unlabelledView post →A very casual game and just a little too casual for me. It simply wasn't holding my interest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After having finished this game twice I can honestly say it is one of the best games I have ever played. For those of you who are fans of speculative evolution (especially those found of South Scrimshaw), planetary science, and the classic tale of evil corporations in science-fiction, then this is the game for you. The visual language of the game is clean and precise, it feels like you are operating precise machinery, while at the same time allowing you to feel connected to the environment…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →innovative and atmospheric take on the interactive fiction genre, in a world full of constant stimulus and constant movement this game is confident in asking you to simply slow down and listen - if you're a reader, and you like speculative biology this is a game you wont want to miss
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LIVE NOW! In Other Waters - An underwater game? :0 #vtuber #envtuber #inotherwaters www.twitch.tv/thatgelatine...
unlabelledView post →Expect a sci-fi text adventure with good sound and indirect control mechanics. Well written, a scientifically interested mindset is behind this game. Pacing alters between very relaxed ( nothing happens until you do your next action ) and resources drop over time phases but you learn how to act during those early enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very relaxing game with minimal interface and zero visual noise. Gather data from the ocean as a machine inside a dive suit. Nice soundtrack. It's definitely not for everyone, you need to have a particular "archivist" mindset to enjoy this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still thinking about this game years after playing it. It good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →@jumpovertheage.com I received my In Other Waters 5th anniversary bundle today and took some time to read the book while listening to the vinyl. I first played your game in 2021 and could never put a finger on what exactly it means to me, but I am still so glad you were able to realize it. Thank you
unlabelledView post →But holy COW what a pedigree of great music! Citizen Sleeper soundtrack? CLASSIC. Wild at Heart? GORGEOUS. In Other Waters? YES PLEASE Amos Roddy - you’ve done wonders 😍 thanks for this gem Now.. back to the ball pit mines (game is good buy it immediately) ✨ store.steampowered.com/app/2062430/...
unlabelledView post →Excellent text-driven, 2D, exploratory game. Play as a strangely advanced yet totally ignorant AI guiding a stranded biologist. Discover countless creatures by collecting sparse samples and use them to your advantage. The controls are (initially) hard to understand; this is part of the story. Buy this on sale as it is not, in my opinion, worth the full $15. This is deeply tied to the story, and while your yes/no responses dictate the flow and direction of the story, replayability is hindered…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The ending is locked behind buying DLC that costs 3x as much as the base game, so thumbs down for toxic business practices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →has anyone played In Other Waters? is the whole game...like this?
unlabelledView post →Really loved this game, my only complaint is that it is WAY too easy to accidently delete your saved game. Clicked Start New Game on accident and even though I quick back to the main menu it saved over my actual game data.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh, mixed feelings. Decent set of ideas, halfhearted execution. The premise of you being the AI in the suit, locked away from seeing the world and whatever the actual protagonist can only describe as lying in it is wonderful; the little descriptions of alien ecology and how it all balances out are quite neat, and imagining what it must all look like beyond your little topographical map view is the best part of this, overall. Of course, for that perspective to work, to some extent you have to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fascinating alien planet and ecosystem exploration story. Theres a few mysteries to uncover lots of bio samples to take and observations to make. Travelling around in game is a bit of a pain though, it really stretches out the gameplay time without much reward if you're backtracking or trying to remember how you got somewhere.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: In Other Waters delivers a serene sci-fi/ocean exploration experience, although you may find the gameplay puts you to sleep. Story: It has decent writing and story, even though your interaction with Ellery is limited to yes/no responses and your own actions. I'm not really into reading detailed descriptions of how the flora and fauna work, but it's cool that so many details were poured into it. Gameplay: The core gameplay loop is very simple: scan, inspect a few nodes (which could be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful artstyle, wonderful story, love the lesbians, love being a little AI in a suit trying to keep one of my lesbians alive. While the screen is made up of dots and terrain, the descriptions are written so well and the soundscape so immersive i can almost see the alien ocean. I've played it twice through now and ill probably go again!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe that after it's been released for so long and there's been so many complaints about the mechanics it's still like this.... What do you mean we get to view a map with markers on where we should be going but we can't take it with us? Either double down and don't give us maps or let us look at the maps when we unlock the maps. I don't want to play with a screenshot of the map on my second monitor.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're interested in the concept of speculative alien life and/or biology/ecology, you will LOVE this game. I've played it again and again. The story is so engaging and interesting. Highly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and sweet little science fiction story and a great "book game" :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super unique and nails the atmosphere of an alien planet. Although I could see some people saying the gameplay is clunky, I really liked it and although weird at first it flows nicely once you get used to it.
