I’d sooner die than release a JRPG with an OST that didn’t live up to the greats like Final Fantasy, & I’m still alive just sayin. aivisura.bandcamp.com/album/ikenfe...

unlabelledView post →So I'm playing Ikenfell and it's got three different enbies as PCs and is super chill about it. Like one of them is a nonbinary person who uses he/him, and it doesn't come up until you're way into the game and he's all "hey, not a guy, I'm nonbinary" when someone calls him a guy offhandedly.

It's also v e r y queer lol 80% of the main characters are gay and that's some great representation. So if you're the "my pronouns are kiss my ass" or "everything's woke" type.... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ off lmao go play warzone or some ♥♥♥♥. Breakdown as follows: Pros: -Excellent soundtrack. I don't know ♥♥♥♥ about Steven Universe but the composers also did the music for it and apparently…

unlabelledView post →Ikenfell is a game that I really could not bring myself to enjoy. As a big fan of JRPGs and great pixel art, I was excited to see what this game had in store. 9 hours of slowly becoming more and more jaded later, I cannot get behind this game in any light. First of all, the sprite art is alright. Nothing insanely pretty, it’s obviously an RPGMaker game that takes a lot of inspiration from Earthbound and Undertale. I usually love the visuals in these games but in Ikenfell it was only so-so.…

unlabelledView post →oops I stayed up til 1am playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. the turn based combat is, so far, scratching a nostalgic RPG itch—plus adds in some dodge/parry mechanics that remind me a lot of Ikenfell (first game I saw that concept). I'm enjoying it so far! if you hate QTEs, there's an auto option!
unlabelledView post →IKENFELL A turn-based RPG that combines the nostalgia of an old Final Fantasy game with modern storytelling. It's a tale of pain and trauma, but it's also a tale of queerness and found family. If you liked Owl House, you'll LOVE Ikenfell!

At first, the game feels very chill and cutesy, with charming pixel graphics and turn-based tactical combat. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it easy to settle into the magical school setting. You play as Maritte, who arrives at Ikenfell in search…

unlabelledView post →Hello Friends, Today I will review the game IKENFELL. This is a indie game featuring a female protagonist looking for her missing sister in a magic school. While searching, she will discover many secrets and weird things happening at the school. With the help of other students the player finds around the school, they will discover many locations in the school. The fighting is strategy based on a grid. The players will have to decide where to move and what spells they can cast on a limited…

Give this game a chance! The combat The combat is turn based, with a small grid for tactical strategy, and every attack or defense has a quick timing system. All this together creates an interesting challenge, where all your actions have to be planned, and wih your skills all having different ranges, earlier ones never get…

unlabelledView post →Honestly, this is probably the best game I have played and will play all year. This LGBTQIA-positive and Mental Health-positive RPG oozes style. From an incredible soundtrack to lovable characters to a combat system that feels like the Tactics version of Super Mario RPG, this game is just one amazing moment after another. If the dev team set out to make an experience that all RPG fans should try, then they succeeded with flying colors. And as far as setting is concerned, it's far more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked the characters, the music, and the general vibes, and the game is really progressive with lots of LGBTQ representation which is awesome. But, I just didn't find the game all that fun. The combat was very tedious, so towards the end of the game I enabled the assist setting that lets you skip combat, which was better than the alternative of abandoning the game unfinished. Overall the story is fine, but not very satisfying imo.

unlabelledView post →Reading negative reviews makes me think I played a completely different game. I know player experience may vary but I think most of the negative reviews are either too harsh or the game is just not someone's cup of tea. As for me, finally playing Ikenfell was a great decision. The battles were never tiring (enemy attacks were so well telegraphed that most of the time it was possible to get them right even on the very first try), the story was enjoyable, the humor was good and the vocalized…

unlabelledView post →giving a thumbs-up because there's a lot to love and to support queer games but it still left me feeling let down in a number of ways. firstly it should be acknowledged that this game was released in 2020 and I played through it at the start of 2026. that wasn't that long ago, but long enough where I won't be able to fully appreciate the boldness of some choices. neopronoun representation stands as a bold inclusion even today. the music slaps no matter the mood, and there's a generous amount…

unlabelledView post →I want so badly to love this game but I can only like it. The combat becomes very repetitive and tedious, timed actions become almost necessary to make any progress despite having incredibly clunky timing windows, gem accessories make equipping anything else pointless, and certain party members are just ridiculously strong while others are near useless... it's still pretty good though.

unlabelledView post →Drawn in by cats and magic, stayed for the deeper than I anticipated JRPG gameplay and story-line. Some boss fights were challenging for me, but I got through them because I was invested in the story. The characters show growth throughout the game, and they did a great job with the music matching the tone of the moment. I enjoyed it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ikenfell is by far the queerest game I have ever played. I do appreciate the representation, but it can be a bit much. Not that it's a detriment, but as the story progressed it got a bit silly. However, the writing was decent, mostly, and it didn't come across as pandering... just a bit hamfisted at times. The gameplay itself was solid. The battle system was inspired by megaman battle network... but it does get repetitive. Around the halfway point of the game you get the best character. And it…

Definitely recommend for those who like these little turn-based games, like me. :D **EDIT** And I can't believe I forgot to mention the CATS!!! OMG!!! CATS, EVERYWHERE!!!!! :D That was the best part. Every game should have a cat you visit to save the game and heal up. Seriously! :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ikenfell is incredible. Everything about it is infused with love from the combat, setting, and characters. And its gay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Adorable pixel art and animations. Great feeling captured in just a few pixels. Very LGBT+ friendly, with cute romance story bits between the save-the-world story and turn-based combat. Combat gets a bit samey-by the end, but changing your team helps provide interest. Plays great on Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ikenfell is a straightforward RPG on the surface, but it surprises with a touching story, character growth that feels natural, and a solid battle system. It may not be a groundbreaking adventure, yet it delivers a warm, engaging experience that is easy to appreciate.

The music is catchy, well-attuned to the mood of the plot, and never gets old. The battle system is novel and fun. The environment you get to walk around gives a sense of awe. And I appreciate all the accessibility settings!! The options to make the game easier or harder, or more usable or tolerable to those with…

unlabelledView post →Ikenfell is another game that draws inspiration from the old school, but it has some inventive gameplay, well defined characters and a fantastic OST that make it a memorable journey. And a well written LGBTQ+ cast that isn't just jammed in for cheap pandering, which is always a plus.
unlabelledView post →GAMERSKY Who do you think is an underrated female character/protagonist? I nominate reluctant fire-witch Maritte from Ikenfell. Not too many people played this game but I loved it. Charming, sincere, cleverly written and even surprisingly funny with a great soundtrack. Gay witches forever.
unlabelledView post →tl;dr -- The storytelling and the soundtrack are pretty good. The gameplay falls off quickly, starting from the mid-game. Early game is balanced well and enjoyable. Chapter boss HP scales exponentially and their damage scales linearly. Your damage from levels and your damage from gear scale VERY linearly. Which means your damage will get outpaced starting from the mid-game. Late game, the bosses start to hit you for 45-80% of your HP while you will hit them for 3-4% of their HP: If you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sigh, I bounced off of Ikenfell. It's a beautiful game with all the trimmings... except it requires a lot out of you! Every single new room is 30+ dialog windows. Every encounter is ten minutes. Backtracking. It's tuned way too aggressively in difficult for me to want to play it. I'm just angry because all it needed was a really good editor to cut everything by half, and remove some of the bloat in the fights. It looked exactly like a game I would have loved. Ugggg!!!! /vent
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a jrpg, it sucks. As a visual novel, it's good. The game has this awful timing combat, which sounds neat but it's far too hard to use. However, there's an option to turn on auto timing and even instant wins, making combat non-existent. The game becomes mostly an interactive visual novel with those options enabled. That's how I played it. It's up to you whether you play in hard mode or very easy mode. The soundtrack is great too (available for purchase on bandcamp fyi weird that it's not…

unlabelledView post →I'm sad to give this a negative review but as the game went on, it only got worse and worse until I couldn't take the game seriously anymore. The cast is entirely queer, including one person with neopronouns which is nice to see. The story and characters are generally very shallow, and around the midpoint of the game each chapter starts feeling monotonous as the plot takes too many twists and turns to have been planned out beforehand. Combat is generally enjoyable, though in the late game…

unlabelledView post →Well written with a very cute pixel art style that feels almost like something out of rpg-maker, in a good way. I'm a sucker for timed hit mechanics, helped keep the battles engaging, and I love how mana isn't a system for these characters and the magic is more of an innate part of their playstyle. Each character felt enjoyable and different enough to use, with their own personal story developments adding to it. Cool little secrets to find, which are always a bonus, I'd say it was a good…
