Hudson & Rex
Created by Ken Cuperus

Critics, per Wikipedia
The first six episodes of season one reached more than 2.5 million viewers in Canada. In the 2019–2020 time period, Hudson & Rex was Citytv's highest-rated original scripted series. Reviewer Rob Buckley, writing for The Medium Is Not Enough after the first episode in March 2019, criticized the writing and direction and described the show as "for the most part unwatchable, tedious". In April 2026, Good Housekeeping described it as a "terrific detective drama".

unlabelledView post →So now the "Rex" portion of Hudson & Rex has been replaced. Not long after, the actor who played Hudson began to face health challenges and the show cast a new Hudson. THAT'S RIGHT, THEY HAVE ACHIEVED A COMPLETE SHIP OF THESEUS BY REPLACING BOTH TITLE CHARACTERS
unlabelledView post →The tv at our hotel is always playing a show called Hudson & Rex and at first we were like “this is a bad show” but now we will both kill to protect this murder-solving dog.
unlabelledView post →There is a Canadian show called Hudson & Rex that is set in Newfoundland and features a dog. Edna recognises the theme music and comes to watch.
unlabelledView post →Why ‘Hudson & Rex’ kept the death of its canine star a secret for six months. The show had to go on and Diesel’s owner Sherri Davis needed the emotional space to continue training Diesel’s nephew Dillon in the lead role.
unlabelledView post →Here’s a screenshot of Carlo Rota. He’s a bad guy on Hudson & Rex too. If you can find it check out the show. It’s filmed in Newfoundland and the scenery is breathtaking. Canada is a beautiful country! #GH
unlabelledView post →Waiting for Britbox to stream that riveting Baba of the Bill show. She can kick the combined dog asses of Kommisar Rex and Hudson & Rex, but not my Rex, who worked undercover.
unlabelledView post →ANYWAY Hudson & Rex is basically a pretty standard Canadian police procedural except sometimes at the end of an episode the dog jumps through a plate glass window or something to catch the bad guy. It's cute, good folding laundry show, City TV (Toronto station) plays it literally 24/7 on weekends
unlabelledView post →Hudson & Rex is an oddly dramatic Canadian police procedural adaptation of a lightly comedic Austrian cop show, Kommissar Rex
unlabelledView post →Very sad to hear that Diesel, who played Rex in HUDSON & REX, has passed away. Diesel was a really impressive dog performer and I loved working on the episode we did together. Sincerest condolences to Sherri and the entire team at H&R. people.com/hudson-and-r...
unlabelledView post →One thing I find super funny is that Canadian network Citytv often gets their feed from American partners like NBC. But... they have the rights to the NBC show but I guess not NBC news. So anytime live news interrupts a show, Citytv frantically switches to a random episode of Hudson & Rex.
unlabelledView post →This makes no sense! No Hudson and the Rex dog named Diesel has died. Sorry but taking Reardon off the show is stupid. unlabelledView post →This is the entire premise of my favourite current tv show, the Canadian series Hudson & Rex! That dog ALWAYS figures out the bad guy before any human can
unlabelledView post →REX MORTUUS EST, VIVAT REX. Rex is dead... long live Rex. Diesel vom Burgimwald has died (indeed, 6 moths ago). The star of TV show "Hudson & Rex" has been replaced with nephew Dillion, and with another nephew, Dante, acting as stand-in. VALE.

unlabelledView post →❤️ this thread. Another fun Hudson & Rex fact. During the daytime I'll have CTV on in the background when it's playing American affiliate daytime TV. But when those U.S. shows are interrupted with breaking American news, CTV doesn't have the rights for live American news coverage, only the show.
unlabelledView post →Rex. Best actor in the show. (No disrespect to the other cast members) (Hudson & Rex)
unlabelledView post →@erikbuchananauthor.bsky.social Watching Hudson & Rex (John Reardon episodes only) and I LOVE St. John's. I need to visit after the crazy here ends. I've visited Niagara Falls & Vancouver - LOVE B.C. Also need to visit White Rock where TV show Psych was filmed.
unlabelledView post →Hudson & Rex is a great show to put on when I am doing chores… But when they decide not to bring back John Reardon, everything feels off. The new “Hudson” is making a valiant effort, but it just doesn’t feel the same.
unlabelledView post →If there’s no Hudson how can you call the show Hudson & Rex? www.thestar.com/entertainmen...
unlabelledView post →I don't watch the TV show, 'Hudson & Rex' but dang, they did John Reardon dirty by firing him while he was undergoing cancer treatment. That is just beyond despicable.
unlabelledView post →Not his brother. They have no relation he’s just Hudson for no reason. Or rather, we know that the reason is to keep the show as Hudson & Rex but there’s no reason on the show.
unlabelledView post →Absolutely NOT. They managed this current season without Hudson because they had to, due to very unfortunate real life circumstances. But Charlie Hudson & Rex are the heart and soul of the show. That’s not debatable.

unlabelledView post →Hudson & Rex everyone. A show produced by a production company that fired its lead actor while he was undergoing treatment for cancer and ruined seven years of storytelling and a whole TV series in the process. Despicable and unethical on all fronts. Words are not enough. people.com/john-reardon...
unlabelledView post →Not bringing John Reardon back is a misstep and a mistake on the productions part and the whole show will be altered because of it and I’m for one, did not sing up to watch Hudson & Rex without Charlie & Rex together. It’s not going to be the show I’ve loved and supported for years.

unlabelledView post →Just watched the new episode of Hudson & Rex. I didn't see much of the new guy on the show but his departure made me bawl because he had to say goodbye to Rex. Anything with dogs pulls at my heart strings something fierce.
unlabelledView post →I picked #Hudson&Rex back up to see John Reardon. But I the show has lost me. Not just the terrible behind-the-scenes drama and the horrible treatment of a cancer patient - all bad - but the declining quality of the writing/ production generally. I want to like H&R3.0. I do. But the writing is bad.

unlabelledView post →I think dogs are amazing & they make great additions to our lives. However, I find the clips of the Prime show Hudson & Rex to be quite disturbing because they show a lot of attacks & reminds me of the Israeli use of dogs to commit violence against Palestinians—I can’t watch a humorous portrayal.

unlabelledView post →Maybe CDNs should somehow mark the passing of Diesel vom Burgimwald, German Shepherd who brought the brilliant and charismatic police dog Rex to life on the hit series Hudson & Rex, filmed in Nfld. His nephews are filling his paws. A detective series made more interesting by the neat antics of Rex.
