“86-year-old retired postmistress Una Crown was brutally murdered in her Wisbech bungalow in January 2013.
Former boxer and neighbour David Newton, 71, used a copy of her back door key (made while “helping” her months earlier), stabbed her repeatedly in the throat and chest, then set her clothes on fire to destroy evidence. He stole just £80 from her purse.
Una fought back, DNA under her nails finally nailed him 12 years later.
Newton even joked in custody about his nickname “The Shovel” because of his huge hands.
Guilty of murder at Cambridge Crown Court. Jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years.
Cold-blooded and callous.
