"Hack, Slash, Loot" is an overpriced waste of time. What could of been a cute little roguelike is purely an only-RNG based mess of a game that has you rely only on luck. There is maybe only one mission you can play through the longest since it has easier enemies but even then the game is all luck based. There is no real progression here, and there is nothing in this game worth mentioning as a positive. You can get dozens of far superior and cheaper roguelikes (E.G Dungeons of Dredmore, Tales of…

Simple is not always good. A game needs to offer its players enough options to form strategies against whatever challenges are posed. Otherwise, you're just playing a glorified slot machine. I don't think the folks behind Hack, Slash, Loot understood this because they made a dungeon crawler that has classes with no skills and loot with no inventory. The game dumps you straight into a cluttered, pixellated menu where you pick your class and your quest, and then get dumped into a crowded,…

Hack, Slash, Loot is a top down roguelike, this game will kill you over and over again to begin with. But be paintent, the game will reward you immensley with a lot of fun and characters. The more you die, the more characters and items drops you unlock. The classic pixel art works really well in the top down view. The game play is very simple. You play with a mouse, and that's it. Turn based movement/actions makes this perfect for playing with a trackpad on a laptop too. There is a nice…

While this is a part of a trend, I really wanted to like the game as it seemed to have potental but it seems to have wasted it in various ways. I don't mind the graphics, but a glaring thing is the lack of variety in tilesets. The spites/animation are pretty basic. Music isn't too bad Now for the big beef; Roguelikes are random but this takes it to absurd levels as fights often devole into flurries of "MISS!" and prying the enemy doesn't get lucky with his hit and/or damage. The items…

Hack, Slash, Loot, or "HSL", looks charming at first with it's retro-style pixel art... until you realize that the gameplay is even more primitive. It is not an understatement to say that everything in this game either comes down to little more than random chance and comparing numbers. Combat is completely limited to clicking on an enemy until they die. That's it. No special moves, no abilities, no changing gear, nothing. Sure, depending on your weapon you either use melee, ranged or magic…

Very undewhelming roguelike. For several reasons. First, there is no inventory system, so the classic roguelike gameplay element of picking up resources to take with you and making decisions on what you need most and when to save them vs use them is nonexistant. Second, success is completely reliant on loot rng to find the correct enchants/resists on random items. If you happen to not find the correct resist for a given quest, you will lose. If the dungeon is being stingy and happens to…

I just read some of these reviews and it looks like no one knows what Rogue-like means. It means like Rogue, a game released in 1980 on UNIX. It was a hard game where everything was out to kill you and even potions and doors could be poisoned or trapped. This game lives up to that legacy and then some and I enjoyed my time playing.

This game is flat out broken. Yes, it's a tradition roguelike. Yes, it is somewhat fun to play. The thing is, the RNG is so bad that it's totally unplayable. You can spawn in a room that is legitimately impossible to beat as soon as you start the game. Unless you want to play a game that is all up to chance, avoid this like the plague.

I have a decent amount of time on this game so I feel I can comment. This game is rough. The graphics are good, the fighting is fun, but the RNG is terrible. Very few runs are winnable in this game and it takes a helluva lot of luck to win. There are so many better Rouge-likes out there nowadays that this game shouldn't even be on your radar. Take your pick, anything is probably better than this.

This is RNG hell. You can die on the first enemy that's spawn next to you at the start, or a little later. Too much luck based to be anything good. Music is nice (when it doesn't forgets to play it)

The randomness and brutality of NetHack, minus the depth of inventory management... or indeed anything else besides walking and attacking. The game will throw all sorts of interesting quests and challenges at you, but since you essentially have no way to counter them or interact with them, the game just boils down to a mildly annoying missed opportunity. The only reason I'm writing this is because the game just got an update after years of sitting dormant in my library.

Not a bad game, just not a good one. It's a mediocre RNG-reliant Roguelike. Plenty of other better games out there, but you can pass the time for an hour before you start to become bored/annoyed at the luck mechanics. Play ADOM or Dungeons of Dredmor instead. 4/10

Simplicity should not be a point of pride in something that can be tagged as a 'traditional roguelike'. All decisions, item picks, attacks, and defenses are 1 or 0. There is nothing more complex to the game's core gameplay. Hit or miss. Use scroll or don't. That's it, and it's far less interesting than the numerous completely free roguelikes and MUDs out there.

Humblebundle pack game. I wish I was joking but instead of going through a in-game tutorial(or a simple message) you press button a in game and directed to a website where it shows a bunch of useless info and nothing else. Their forums are down (this is used to find more info about the game or so the website says). This game is not even worth a dollar, this is just stuff from newgrounds some guy put together in flash.

But it is not well balanced, though. So I will point out some pros and cons for this product. Before that, I truly recommend this beautiful game to everyone! What I like in this game? I like Roguelikes. Been playing them since, well, Rogue. This one, well, I'm glad I got it in a bundle because I'd have regretted spending seven dollars on it alone. The interface is way too busy; the balance is far too swingy; there's too little opportunity for strategy to turn the tide of a battle. With the utter lack of healing and swingy battles, it'd almost be good as a stealth game if there werent scores of enemies that see you immediately upon opening a door. Treasure is…

Hack, Slash, Loot is a terrible game. The game is completely based on luck and is pure random. I love how I start the game and every room has tons of mobs and I lose almost all of my health as I leave the first few rooms, then I always die after I encounter the next monster. Honestly, didn't find this a fun game at all. There are three things you can do in this game: - Walk - Attack - Pick up items Last I played it (roughly 2014), it didn't have any item use, as far as I know. Incredibly punishing RNG. You either get the perfect build, or you die. Very, very little skill involved.

This game is a fun simple rogue game where death is an experience. You will learn what to do in a random level setup by dying over and over again. Once you know what to do, you will try to outlive the last time you play. After all, simplicty is without a hard learning curve is fun. Trust me, the RNG is a ♥♥♥♥♥, but it effects the enemy as well. A whole lot of misses before either one of you get a hit. The only turnoff is the price, but wait until it is on sale or get this in a bundle.

A traditional roguelike simplified to the point of complete randomness. What makes this genre appealing (to me) is having an immense difficulty that must be learned from and numerous situations that must be exploited to maximize your odds. This game has difficulty, but there's no answer for it. Your options are move and attack (with occasional repositioning exploits.) If that doesn't work, enjoy your death. The pop-up text boxes that appear at the beginning and end of missions also often glitch…

This game is definitely challenging. The controls may not be intuitive, but they are actually pretty simple. Information can be obtained on a wide variety of items. This is fairly important, as not all items in the game are beneficial to use. Character stats can be seen by mousing over the possible players. More player types are unlocked as you progress. The stats don't say what will be equipped with each character, so it's a good idea to try them all out. Dying will likely happen a lot. This…

This is not a game for normies. This is a game for rogue-like obsessive fans. 90 deaths before my first win! But it's a lot of fun and a great time investment so long as you enjoy RNG loot. Yes, there are traps, yes it is random, yes, you will die and it won't be your fault. The goal isn't not to die, it's to get back up and try again, as with any Rogue-like. 7/10 but I love punishment. Simple game, fun at times, but very difficult most of the time. I've been unable to complete any quest so far, sometimes for my own fault, sometimes because the game spawns you with 2 or 3 enemies in the initial area, and they take most of your health. A lot of people dislike this game for what I think are missed expectations. If you've ever played early PC dungeon crawlers you'd recognize what this game is trying to do, and frankly it does it very well. Hack, Slash, Loot is effectively a turn-based fast paced RPG and has a pretty fun gameplay loop. Why do people dislike it? You'll die. A lot. This game is kinda like the new pokemon roguelike mods. Holy snickerdoodles...8 years later it just randomly gets this huge overhaul?! Who does that? It vastly improves on the game by a huge chunk and the trailer video just doesn't do it justice anymore. The game can be super challenging since it's very luck based, you're going to die, a lot, and some of those deaths will feel like bs but when you get THE run and start getting good items and snowballing thru the levels, it's super satisfying and fun and addictive. Stats ===== Every character has five stats that help determine their effectiveness during the game. The five stats are Melee, Ranged, Magic, Defence, and Health.
