Described as a "point-and-click thriller", the game revolves around a core mechanic of resource and time management, in which the player is placed in various scenarios and tasked to avert a crisis. Their whole thing is games that will leave you faintly disquieted and turning them over in your head for days afterwards.
unlabelledView post →New bite-sized game (about an hour long, they say) from the folks who made stuff like The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, Red Strings Club and Gods Will Be Watching. It's $3 and I'm just buying that blind.
unlabelledView post →This is probably one of my favorite games and I feel the need to explain why it's polarizing the audience as much as it does. It's a time loop story like Groundhog Day or Tomorrow War. There were, I think, six scenes originally, with an epilogue added later. You get through each scene by surviving to the end and making tough mortal decisions. Who gets shot? Who gets to eat? Etc. There is not a happy path for everyone. The difficulty of the original game was brutal and you'd really spend a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I want to make this clear: This is not a bad game. In fact, I could see it being somebody's favorite game. It's a game that's designed really well, but due to it's intentional high difficulty and reliance on luck, I couldn't recommend it to anybody. Gods Will Be Watching is a game about managing invisible status bars. You're usually in a single room, and switching people between tasks to keep them from dying while also completing whatever goal you need to complete. The story, music, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is basically tediously managing a bunch of RNG checks, most of the time without any comprehensive feedback. The aesthetic is really pleasant and the story would've been enjoyable, I'm sure, but even Fear&Hunger, a game notorious for its literal coin toss mechanic, was less frustrating and required less luck based actions to complete. Maybe I'll attempt it again without the randomization, but so far it's just not worth the trial and error.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gods Will Be Watching is genuinely beautiful — if only it were fun. Everything about this game is beautiful. The pixel art is perfectly done and oozes atmosphere and quality. The soundtrack isn’t award-winning, but it absolutely elevates each level. Unfortunately, the gameplay is a chore. Ignoring the story difficulty mode (which I did not play), the game just isn’t fun. It’s packed with RNG that turns what could’ve been great levels into tedious busywork. This is especially evident in the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An entirely forgotten Game that was perhaps never known to begin with. There's good Reason for this, for as many others have already mentioned in Detail, the Game is a narrative-heavy Game where all you do is manage Status Bars, keeping them from either becoming empty or too full, with RNG thrown into the Mix and many Instant-fail Mechanics tied to it. Incredibly frustrating and unrewarding, to say the least. The Story itself is... well, there are phenomenal Moments and Setpieces in it,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing about 90 minutes of this game i have a hard time reccomending it to anyone unless they are masochist. To be more specific, this micromanagement at an extreme level at chapter 1 makes me want to give up immediately. It is punishing and boring. I cannot understand if the developers simply were too lazy to make an adventure game rich in many chapters or if they just expected the players to just "git gud" on a slog fest of repetitiveness. The graphics are appealing and the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is just not fun. It is way too hard. How should I feel about choosing a less difficult game mode? I feel bad everytime I try to play this game. Which is disappointing, because I like how the game looks and feels. I wish I could erase the memory of me discovering this game and trying to play it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looked like an adventure game, but it is not. It's a RNG-driven trial-and-error game where there are wrong choices and choices where it's random if you get to proceed or fail and start everything over again from the beginning. The only "point and click" is clicking choices that come up. It's tedious AF and just not enjoyable once you realize in Chapter 1 that you're going to see the same scene and sequence of events ad nauseum until you just don't care anymore about what happens.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gods Will Be Watching is not pitched well. Reading the store page made me think I was getting into some kind of point-and-click adventure game. That's not what this is. God Will Be Watching is a difficult resource management puzzle game with enough RNG to keep you constantly stressed. Without giving too much away, the game's difficulty and frustrating RNG is intentional. By the end of the DLC chapter, every clicks. If you accept the game for what it is, I think it tells a great little story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Few games are wholly designed to make you "feel" a certain way, this is one of them. You play this game for the experience it provides, an extremely tense management of a seemingly impossible scenario. Can you solve this set of seemingly impossible scenarios? For at least half of the scenarios the answer is going to be no. This game is not balanced nor is it intended to be. Most puzzle games give you a rewarding resolution for testing your wits, this games priority of making you "feel"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I had to describe this game in one word it would be: Boring. boring boring boring. This game is just boring. The game play was the same 3+ options over and over again. Every slight task could instantly throw your run into ♥♥♥♥ or completely set you back by 20+ minutes for nothing. I got to the third chapter and was not only confused on story and timeline, but was also doing the same task over and over and over again just to find out that I misclicked one option during one scene and had to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Played on Steam Deck) In many ways this game is heartbreakingly almost-good. The story is rather intriguing, but getting to experience it can be a slog of RNG. The difficulty is intentionally brutal (at least on the normal mode, which you need to unlock extras & concept art). While I don't mind a game forcing me to retry many times, some of the chapters are brutal slogs where a single unlucky event can lead to large amounts of lost progress. Then there is the major problem of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really despise reviews by people who clearly enjoyed a game but refuse to recommend it to others. All reviews are subjective, and all people are subjective, so why would a review shortsell a piece of art that clearly worked on them? Well, Gods Will Be Watching (GWBW) definitely tested me on this one. The game is fundamentally a management simulator with obtuse, scenario-specific mechanics and a healthy dose of RNG. This is cardinal sin to me. I played OG diff with OG RNG, and my goodness.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/eH0T-7e2f5Q Dark and gritty storytelling is a rare treat but the extension to the player experience via unclear choices and results is far less enjoyable.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game doesn't launch at all for me, be it Linux natively, or in Proton. Will be refunding. Had to click play until it said I had 5 minutes of "playtime", but the game never got past any form of even trying to start loading. The error was as followed, when I ran it through Proton. The Linux native version silently crashed to desktop with no window pop-up. ___________________________________________ ############################################################################################…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In its core, the game is a survival/decision game with very simple game mechanics which are wonderfully wrapped. You need to manage different ressources very efficiently to accomplish a goal. Anything else I write at this point would spoil too much. Where the game truly shines though, is its atmosphere, story and dialogue. Although nothing truly new in the realm of science fiction it is simply very well done. What I also enjoyed very much is the playful and experimental nature of the game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of reviews will tell you that the experience of playing this on Normal is crucial to the story, and honestly, while I understand where they're coming from, I disagree. I think it's important to know that the intended experience is very grueling and cruel and annoying, but if you go in with that knowledge and play it on easy, you're going to understand the point just as well. Personally, I'm really glad there's a Weenie Hut Junior mode, because I wouldn't have finished this game otherwise.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →in the end, its a plain trial&error game. you click through the options to see the outcome several times until you understand which options to choose in what order. and then there still is rng that makes you insta lose levels you have to start all over again. there are way more enjoyable games of this type, one of which is Dead in Bermuda, which also is hard and has rng, but is much more "reliable" to play and thus a lot more fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Narrative-required RNG is shoved into the flow of the game in a fashion somehow more perpendicular than sideways. It is mandatory to the vision of the game to play russian roulette with a rather annoying amount of time at stake, a lot of tension is created this way, but the moment it goes bad, the tension is gone and it's *another* instant-loss-to-rng obstacle you can do absolutely nothing about, which is the narrative point of that obstacle to be that way. You can't really escape that with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not for me. I can see a ton of work went into this, but I just didnt feel like I was understanding what was going on at all storywise. I also hate the mechanic of not being able to see a status bar for ANYTHING and honestly, an hour in just found myself genuinely not enjoying the experience. I love this studio though. Hoping for something better from them, similar to cosmic wheel sisterhood again soon.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gods Will Be Watching is a fascinating game. In all truth, I don't think GWBW is a "fun" game - in fact, it's arguably the most brutally difficult game I've played, often to the point of pure frustration. And yet, the execution of the story and narrative, and how they tie into the gameplay, are absolutely terrific. GWBW is, in the truest sense, a post-modern game. It wants you to know the pain that the protagonist, Burden (no, not the most subtle name) suffers as he struggles to find his way…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite what the hours say, I played most of this offline on a laptop, I have beat the game a couple of times, and I am currently playing through on the hardest difficulty. I wanted to set the record straight, many reviews say this is an RNG mess, I view that as nothing but a skill issue. The game is hard genuinely, it is demanding and the "puzzles" require you to spread your attention across multiple facets. The RNG elements I never felt were unfair, for example spoilers for one level There…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly a brilliant game that deserves a much higher review score! The studio fumbled the marketing of this game by advertising it as a Point & Click adventure game, which it absolutely isn't, so I understand that frustration that caused others to review this game badly. The game is more of a set of difficult scenarios where you need to manage your team and resources each turn in order to survive and achieve some kind of goal. The game is difficult but it becomes much easier once you pay…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting idea, but it gets boring quickly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is extremely difficult to the point of being frustrating, half of it also completely reliant in RNG and you might as well be pulling a slot machine whether or not you win to the point of being downright unfair, the levels can be really long and exhausting 10/10 amazing game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will be honest: I played this game till the end and don't remember almost anything. Very incoherent story. But cool style. It feels like a distant dream now, many years since completion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not for every one, however, i personally find it fantastic, a clear display of craftsmanship! wish there were more games like it..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game isn't for everyone. It's hard. Brutally hard. They added a mode to make it easier, which is good since people with brains don't like smashing their head against a brick wall like I do. But the game rewards extremely hard resource and time management, with RNG thrown into the mix to gum things up even if your plan was perfect. I love the story, I like the characters, and Sgt. Abraham Burden is a character who fascinated me as the story unfolded. It is a game that not only expects you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ultimately, when you get past the 8-bit, choice and balance turn-based gameplay, where you learn a new system for each level, and master it, and adjust to death, and retrying, you begin to see a story form. As it does, you start to appreciate the small ways the characters transform from variables in an equation, to a squad with personality and feelings. This is a story about love, between two men. And about whether you believe in revolution from without, or reform from within, in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a joy for me to play, as someone who greatly enjoys a challenge to overcome. And that's what this game is going to give you. A challenge. Every Mission is going to be fought tooth and nail to make it through, and this is especially true if you want to keep everyone alive, which I managed to do save for 1 chapter. The game play is rather simplistic(along with the art) but despite its simplicity is elegant in its execution with regard to how you can manage the situation. On the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played the original browser game “Gods will be watching” over a decade ago when I was still in high school. I discovered on the pc gaming news site “rock paper shotgun” where it was described as a difficult and gruelling strategy pixel art game where you had to optimize a stranded crews resources on a deserted planet to survive. I still have memories of many of Burdens men resorting to cannibalism and eating the groups dog to survive or destroying the robot for spare parts. Many…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If the game mechanics were a bit more clear, this would have been a great game. It is like playing a turn-based game, but without knowing the turn numbers or limits. In the end, the game is frustratingly hard and confusing, which makes me want to ALT-F4 the game. The solution to play on narrative mode isn't satisfying, because you can't earn Steam achievements during the narrative mode. Nonetheless, I appreciate the vision of the game, and hope that future releases (or a re-release of this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game could be better. My biggest issue with it is the sluggishness of the gameplay of a point-and-click style but in scenarios that call for quick thinking and decision-making. I like difficult games, but the difficulty for me came more from trying to react to something but needing to wait for dialogue to end and the menu to open, then waiting for the dialogue to end again and on and on and on, rather than from the decisions and mechanics of the game. The RNG fest is kinda bad too, but if…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've seen a lot of people complain about the direction of the game, including the RNG & narrative aspects of it, but I don't think it takes a lot at all to see past those things. In fact, I'd say it's probably what makes finishing it much more rewarding, or at the least satisfying. Yes, there is parts that get (to say the least) frustrating with the dependence on RNG, or messing up one seemingly insignificant thing might lead to your failure 30 minutes later- However, when it comes down to it,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend watching a playthrough of this game on YouTube, but I do not recommend buying or playing it. I like the script writing, the characters, and the overall narrative, but the gameplay is not engaging or interesting. The consequences for failure can be up to 20 or 30 minutes of progress lost that you have to play through again (even on the "narrative" difficulty setting), which I feel is a waste of my time. For point and click or narrative focused games that provide a better interactive…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The aesthetic is crack for me but the game is just painfully unfun to play. I give it credit for trying something new. It's a bold experiment and way to make a game and challenge a player but inevitably I don't think it's enough to be considered something worth pushing through to the end. If you're curious I'd say maybe give it a shot on sale, just be ready for one of the most rng games to ever rng if you play it "as intended".
