Get Shorty
Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld
Chili Palmer is a Miami mobster who gets sent to L.A. to collect a bad debt from Harry Zimm, a Hollywood producer who specializes in cheesy horror films. When Chili meets Harry's leading lady, the romantic sparks fly. After pitching his own life story as a movie idea, Chili learns that being a mobster and being a Hollywood producer really aren't all that different. From TMDB

positive · AI labelView post →In all the tributes to the late great Gene Hackman, little or no mention has been made of his terrific performance in the underrated Get Shorty, in which he costarred with John Travolta. Hackman brilliantly played a D list horror film director who gets tangled up with mobsters. It’s one of my faves.
positive · AI labelView post →This is such a funny idea. You're 20 minutes into Get Shorty and then you have to watch Rio Bravo for two hours. Then you're almost through the movie and, bam, time for the theatrical cut of Touch of Evil.
neutral · AI labelView post →As Elmore Leonard adaptations go, I prefer Out of Sight and Jackie Brown. But Get Shorty remains a delight. If you ever want to explain to someone what a movie star performance is, just show them the clip of Travolta walking up the restaurant steps to beat up Gandolfini.
positive · AI labelView post →Any fans of the 1995 film, Get Shorty?
neutral · AI labelView post →One for my filmmakers pals or any one interested in screenwriting. The great Scott Frank adapted Get Shorty & Out of Sight and wrote & directed Godless & The Queen’s Gambit. Smart guy with a lot of practical advice. Good chat about film noir, too. www.wtfpod.com/podcast/epis...

He'll always be "Tony," patriarch of TV's "The Sopranos," but he was also in The Drop, The Mexican, Get Shorty, and other good films. More: alt text
neutral · AI labelView post →What is the biggest drop off between an original movie and a sequel? For me, one is "Get Shorty" (probably one of my top 20 favorite movies) to "Be Cool" (and unwatchable mess). Also, the original "Jurassic Park" to the appearance of Chris Pratt in the series.
positive · AI labelView post →With my love @hojolego.bsky.social at the Get Shorty event of the Cleveland International Film Festival! Second year in attendance, and so excited!!
neutral · AI labelView post →A titan, but maybe my favorite movie with Gene Hackman in it is GET SHORTY. You will like it. youtu.be/O31rBYqYkuQ?...
positive · AI labelView post →I think my favorite Gene Hackman film is Unforgiven, but he was so good in so many, and such varied, roles. Crimson Tide, The Conversation / Enemy of the State, The French Connection, Hoosiers, The Birdcage, … One of his movies I haven’t seen highlighted is Get Shorty; he was fantastic in it. RIP.
positive · AI labelView post →Get Shorty (1995) 🎥 Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld Chilli Palmer, a mobster, travels from Florida to Hollywood to collect a debt and discovers that the movie business is just as sleazy as the Miami underworld. #FilmSky
neutral · AI labelView post →He was pretty fun in the otherwise not so great sequel to Get Shorty, Be Cool.
neutral · AI labelView post →My favorite line from Delroy Lindo is “I’ve seen better film on teeth!” from GET SHORTY.
neutral · AI labelView post →Every clip from #TheStudio is gonna go viral on Film Twitter. This show is the legit business. It’s the spiritual successor to GET SHORTY and THE PLAYER. So sharp and funny. Kathryn Hahn’s outfits tell an entire story on their own.
neutral · AI labelView post →That was a fun movie, sort of HIGH FIDELITY meets GET SHORTY. I’ll need to add it to regular rotation and add a few tracks from the soundtrack to my Mix Tape playlist (currently at just over 1000 tracks and counting).
neutral · AI labelView post →Gene Hackman as an in over his head schmuck b-movie director in Get Shorty is one of my absolute favorite comedy roles.
positive · AI labelView post →I’ve never read Get Shorty, but the movie was in production the year Pulp Fiction blew up, and obviously stars Travolta, and the whole detail of how Chili has seen and loved every good movie but every bad movie too, I do wonder if that’s influenced by Tarantino the (then new) public figure
neutral · AI labelView post →GET SHORTY is a movie that understands one of the great truths: TOUCH OF EVIL rocks.
positive · AI labelView post →This movie is so sensational. Also true of Hoosiers. Royal Tenenbaums. Heist. Get Shorty. The Firm. Mississippi Burning. Unforgiven. The list is insane.
neutral · AI labelView post →There are worse actors to do a movie marathon of than Gene Hackman. In the last week I've watched: Get Shorty The Birdcage The Firm Hoosiers* The Runaway Jury Mississippi Burning* Postcards from the Edge No Way Out The Package* and now Crimson Tide (* indicates first viewing)
neutral · AI labelView post →He’s pretty great in Get Shorty too. Rewatched it again recently and realized how good of a movie it is. Oh, and Sinners. What a sizzlin’ flick!
positive · AI labelView post →I just re-watched Get Shorty while I was making sausage. Is there any other movie that goes as hard for a specific vehicle as that movie does for the Oldsmobile Silhouette? AKA the Cadillac of minivans.
neutral · AI labelView post →I have three kids under the age of 11 and so K-Pop Demon Hunters is the only Oscar-nominated film I’ve seen this year, but I still think Delroy Lindo was robbed because he should already have an Oscar for Get Shorty
positive · AI labelView post →#nowwatching Get Shorty.
neutral · AI labelView post →I don't know that it qualifies, but if Get Shorty is not a Dad movie, it should be.
positive · AI labelView post →Happy #LetterboxdFriday! What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? The Taking of Pelham 123 Get Shorty Thunderbolts Runaway Jury Pelham is a reliable rewatch. Get Shorty my favorite movie about movies. Thunderbolts is becoming my favorite Marvel movie. Runaway Jury was worth a second look.

neutral · AI labelView post →Don't sleep on Gene Hackman's performance in Get Shorty! Every line he delivers ("It's my Driving Miss Daisy") has perfect comic timing. Even his performance in this deleted scene, where he schools Ben Stiller on how to shoot a horror film, is perfect. youtu.be/aKlH6_xZo6c?...
neutral · AI labelView post →If you're planning a Gene Hackman film festival, here's where to watch some of his greatest roles: Unforgiven, Mississippi Burning, Get Shorty - Prime Superman 1-4 - Max Quick & the Dead - Hulu The Firm, The Conversation - Kanopy No Way Out, Get Shorty - Tubi, Pluto Scarecrow, Night Moves - TCM
neutral · AI labelView post →And I still laugh that GET SHORTY remains my favorite ever “inside Hollywood” movie and I love Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman) more than is appropriate.
positive · AI labelView post →Google's AI is so helpful. Look at the suggested reply it says I should send for some freelance film pitches! Except all of these details are wrong. Oops. (The Last Starfighter opened in July 1984, Get Shorty opened in October 1995, and Take the Money... opened in August of 1969.)
neutral · AI labelView post →I love the movie Get Shorty and Delroy Lindo was the best part. Man, they did his character so shady! I wanted to watch a whole film just about him. Nobody else was nearly as interesting. Whenever he’s on screen, he’s all you want to look at. What’s he gonna do? What’s he gon say? #BlackSky #FilmSky
positive · AI labelView post →post a movie you like with a terrible rotten tomatoes score This and This, which is funny because "Be Cool" is the sequel to "Get Shorty", but the second one is aaaaaaaas, still love it though.
positive · AI labelView post →Pick any Elmore Leonard book and you’ll be glad you did. A lot of good movie adaptations, too, but I’m not sure I’d say “better than the book.” Out of Sight, Get Shorty, and 3:10 to Yuma jump to mind.
neutral · AI labelView post →so many great films for a tribute watch re Gene Hackman's passing. personal choice: effortlessly holding the screen alongside a strong cast and tremendous source material, is Get Shorty. every scene a delight, as he nails the role of Harry Zimm, B-movie director: www.imdb.com/title/tt0113...
positive · AI labelView post →After a lifetime of not watching movies, I am now making time to watch movies: Get Shorty (1995)
neutral · AI labelView post →He is perfect in Get Shorty. Just perfection. “You think we watch your movies, Harry!? I seen better film on teeth.”

neutral · AI labelView post →GET SHORTY is a great book but a perfect film.
positive · AI labelView post →I love GET SHORTY (the novel) but the 1995 film tightens up the story into a hilarious and brilliant movie.
positive · AI labelView post →Get Shorty is on hotel HBO, and my own opinion is this movie was and remains a total banger.
positive · AI labelView post →#GetShorty is one of my comfort movies. I just makes me smile. #FridayHeretics
positive · AI labelView post →I asked ChatGPT whether 86 has ever been used in a movie to mean kill. It said, yes, though it's rare, and said it was in "Get Shorty." Except that the script it cited, did not contain any use of "86." So Trump is a dumb as AI.
neutral · AI labelView post →Background movie day started off with Batman Returns and has now rolled over to Get Shorty.
neutral · AI labelView post →Get Shorty (1995) - The movie
neutral · AI labelView post →I have learned that there's really no need for normies to care about journo gossip. I have also found that I've never enjoyed a movie about the movie business, except Get Shorty and that wasn't exactly cinema verité. Nor do I like novels about writing.
positive · AI labelView post →On this week's episode of The Movie Ladder Podcast, we head out to L.A. to Get Shorty. open.spotify.com/episode/5YXn...
neutral · AI labelView post →#NowWatching Get Shorty One of my favourite films. Probably one of the few great Elmore Leonard adaptations. Works as both a crime film & a Hollywood satire. Very sharp & funny script from Scott Frank. One film I watched as a kid/teenager that made me want to get into the film industry. #filmsky
positive · AI labelView post →Now seen by The Sickos: Get Shorty, 1995 - ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Incredible to have this much plot and this many characters in a movie under 2 hours. They don’t make em like this anymore kids. https://letterboxd.com/mstrickland/film/get-shorty/
positive · AI labelView post →Remember the movie "Get Shorty"? 🤣🤣🤣
neutral · AI labelView post →RIP Gene Hackman. Favorite movie besides Hoosiers? Absolute Power stands out for me, and Get Shorty (which I love). So many good ones that I'm not sure what I'd pick
positive · AI labelView post →Going to the film festival this afternoon so can't properly celebrate the life of Gene Hackman. If I did, it would be with The Conversation and Get Shorty, which are my favorites of his performances.
positive · AI labelView post →He was great in Get Shorty, as was Delroy Lindo. They made a really great movie excellent.
positive · AI labelView post →Tonight’s movie: Get Shorty It’s been quite a few years, but this movie is great, John Travolta’s best in my opinion.
