Gemini Man
Directed by Ang Lee
Henry Brogan is an elite 51-year-old assassin who's ready to call it quits after completing his 72nd job. His plans get turned upside down when he becomes the target of a mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move. To his horror, Brogan soon learns that the man who's trying to kill him is a younger, faster, cloned version of himself. From TMDB

Viewers find the high frame rate distracting and off-putting. [1][2][3] The plot is considered predictable and weak. [4][5][6] Some appreciate the technical ambition despite the film's flaws. [5][7][8]

Really good watch, would watch again, and can recommend. If there is someone you want to put on the screen twice, then I understand it being Will Smith, and the rest of the cast is great. This might even have been the role that got Mary Elizabeth Winstead into the Huntress role later on. I think they specifically reference it a some point in the movie, but a lot of the story is Will Smith fighting himself. The …

If you enjoy reading my Spoiler-Free reviews, please follow my blog :) Usually, I leave the technical aspects to the end of my reviews since story, characters, and the critical element of each genre (action in action flicks, comedy in comedies, and so on) are way more important. However, having in mind the whole marketing campaign surrounding Gemini Man's "groundbreaking innovations", I'll address them now. Even …

It's hard to describe how weird and jarring it is. It feels like a YouTube video. Ang Lee was probably the first to try it with Gemini Man (2019). Not a great film also it suffers from deranged colour grading.

Because when a talented filmmaker who knows what they're doing tries this out, it can be cool. I think AVATAR 2 and 3 look incredible in HFR. Ang Lee's GEMINI MAN is a flawed movie, but a genuinely evangelizing tech demo, and not just for its action scenes either.

HFR is an interesting idea that's just weird in execution. we got to see a bit of Gemini Man at 60fps at the Oscars bake-off that year. it was cool! the effects work was really solid! *holy crap* was it weird, and I had my head solidly in actual film for like 10 years before digital took over
How this was made: an AI model (deepseek-v4-flash) read 34 of the 104 public posts we collected about this film and wrote the summary, likes and dislikes, citing the posts behind each point ([n] opens the post). A second AI pass checked every statement against the posts it cites; anything it could not match was removed, and code removed any statement with quotation marks, numbers that are not in the posts, or unattributed claims about people. The split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Generated Oct 12, 2026. Method
Critics, per Wikipedia
Gemini Man grossed $48.6 million in the United States and Canada, and $124.9 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $173.5 million. It was estimated the film needed to gross around $275 million worldwide in order to break even; Deadline Hollywood calculated its net loss to be $111.1 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues. In the United States and Canada, Gemini Man was released alongside The Addams Family and Jexi, and was originally projected to gross $24–29 million from 3,642 theaters in its opening weekend. The film made $7.5 million on its first day, including $1.6 million from Thursday night previews, lowering weekend estimates to $20 million. It…

negative · AI labelView post →Gemini Man is one of those movies you keep trying to give chances to because it seems impossible for a movie with that premise and cast to be so incredibly dull. You’re expecting bad but not dull.
negative · AI labelView post →can’t get past this: both Will Smiths were eliminated from championship contention on 10/10/19 Gemini Man (movie where Will Smith fights Will Smith) was released 10/11/19 neither Will Smith won a championship before then a Will Smith has won the championship every year since then

neutral · AI labelView post →Riding with Death, an entry from MST3K Season 8! GREAT stuff, too. It's two episodes of a failed sorta kinda somewhat quasi-pseudo-sci-fi TV series, Gemini Man, that were flimsily and clumsily slammed together to make a TV movie. The 1970s practically OOZE out of this one!

positive · AI labelView post →Ahhh man, Robbie just reminded me of when Gemini Man came out and people were traveling to different cinemas to see it in different framerates. Can you imagine what a nightmare moviegoing would have become if that movie succeeded and suddenly we got performance reviews for The Brualist.

neutral · AI labelView post →I think I have said this before but I think movies would be improved by people making songs dedicated to the movie again Gemini Man could have been a hit if only Will Smith had the motivation to do a family friendly rap about it like the first two Mens in Black and Wild Wild West
neutral · AI labelView post →Movie watching slowed this week. Managed to squeeze in four films, two of which I crossed off my watchlist. ‘Gemini Man’ (2019) felt like an excuse to do face swaps that *almost* worked. I was not impressed. But ‘Michael Clayton’ (2007) had heart. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched #movies #filmsky

neutral · AI labelView post →So the MST3K "Riding With Death" experiment was a TV movie cobbled out of a couple of episodes of "The Gemini Man." They made 12 episodes of that show, we could have had a Master Ninja multiple-episode situation on our hands. "Wait until they find out I'm Ben Murphy!"

neutral · AI labelView post →I've been watching so many movies these past few days because I'm sick as a dog and don't have the focus for games. In addition to Gemini Man my Sinners rerun I also checked out Under the Silver Lake (first time) today. Totally bizarre movie but I bet it hits different for LA people.
neutral · AI labelView post →Maaan, Butler and Edgecombe look alike. He looks so much like a younger version of Jimmy that a part of me is wondering if this is not a Gemini Man situation where Jimmy was cloned and they’re sending this younger version to take him out like in that Ang Lee movie that I still haven’t watched.

unlabelledView post →This is a so much more successful attempt at a "Will Smith reflects on his career and mistakes via an action movie where his badass character deals with a younger version of himself that embodies his misdeeds as a younger man" movie than GEMINI MAN, I'll tell you that much.

unlabelledView post →You should see the 4K disc for Gemini Man. It's jaw dropping. It's not the best movie ever made, but visually the disc is unmatched. It was shot at 60fps instead of the 24fps standard for movies. It gives it a hyper realistic look. It's the demo disc I put in to show off what 4K on an OLED can do.
