Funny Games
When Ann, husband George, and son Georgie arrive at their holiday home they are visited by a pair of polite and seemingly pleasant young men. Armed with deceptively sweet smiles and some golf clubs, they proceed to terrorize and torture the tight-knit clan, giving them until the next day to survive. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Right-wing pundits used to take "the Jedi were bad" further and argue the genocidal Empire were good. Hey, why so upset? It's just a movie, I'm just trolling! I pictured all those smug little freaks smirking like Michael Pitt at the end of Funny Games, with the same thing ultimately on their minds.

Year 2, Day #161 "Funny Games" (Michael Haneke/1997) I love this movie but I recognize it is not for everyone. It is a deeply uncomfortable watch. You should probably check it out to determine if I am crazy or not 😅

unlabelledView post →It's been about 17 years since I watched the English language remake of this film so I decided it's finally time to watch the original. Any fans of Funny Games out there? Either version.
unlabelledView post →Funny Games. It's an Arthouse Horror movie that hates Horror Movies, and the moral of the story is that you are a bitch for liking this film.
unlabelledView post →this drives me nuts about Funny Games. You are not implicating the audience about violence in movies, because you made this movie. You did the violence.

unlabelledView post →Scream and Funny Games are in a way two opposite sides of exploring movie violence in that Scream plays up the formula and distance, while Funny Games takes an angle where it takes away all that distance and makes you sit with the consequences.
unlabelledView post →Starting my #BleakWeek Year 4 journey with a film I have “complicated” feelings about: Michael Haneke’s English language remake of his own FUNNY GAMES (2007). Giving it a second chance (and yes, I’ve seen the original too). @amcinematheque.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →Is The Bride! a great piece of filmmaking? No, but I dug it. I would ride into battle for Jessie Buckley, man, she was awesome. I’m probably in the minority for that movie. Rewatched Funny Games cause I was in the mood for something relaxing & calm lol 😉. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday #FilmSky

unlabelledView post →Civil War gnaws at me like Funny Games: a movie that I know what it's about, that I know I'm going to find both repellent and haunting, and that I keep deciding never to watch but still thinking maybe I should watch anyway
unlabelledView post →#filmsky The horror movie as art film? In A Glass Cage (out today, 1986) takes on similar terrain as Salo and Funny Games: an appalling subject (Nazi abuse of children, then revenge) done in a stylish, artful, powerhouse way. You can’t stop watching, but it’s dire nihilism is on full display
unlabelledView post →I don’t think Cabin in the Woods is a movie for critical thinking. I’m probably prejudiced against it because I watched it when people said it was better than Funny Games, an angry movie with real contempt for the genre it depicts. Cabin is by comparison fairly toothless, a gentle ribbing of horror

Can ‘The Cat in the Hat’ succeed (in terms of paving the way) where ‘Space Jam,’ ‘Happy Feet,’ and ‘LEGO Movie’ did not?

unlabelledView post →so i’m watching a video on this godawful movie called Funny Games a horror movie that blames the audience for watching a horror movie and it turns out it’s a remake. ok. where is the original director from? austria. of course. the land of the most terrible, puffed up, self-serious movies ever
unlabelledView post →An arty, abrasive crossbreeding of the home invasion movie and the Theatre of Cruelty. I have to wonder if Michael Haneke saw DEATH GAME prior to making the rather similar FUNNY GAMES. At first, I hated the outsized kabuki performances by Locke and Camp, but they ended up adding a lot to the film.

unlabelledView post →Michael Haneke’s original 'Funny Games' (1997) was laced with parody, but the U.S. remake fully commits to the bit, lampooning the established art house aesthetic while creating an unsparing film product that is patently synthetic. www.splittoothmedia.com/funny-games/

unlabelledView post →There’s nothing like an art house horror movie! Michael Haneke’s grim Funny Games (out today, 1997) is the anti-Death Wish movie of the century: this tale of two teens who torment a nice family is a disturbing exercise in denying audience expectations. Don’t the thugs always lose in the end? Nah
