Flinthook
Developer Tribute Games Inc.
Flinthook is a roguelike platformer by Tribute Games in which the player's character uses a grappling hook to traverse procedurally generated spaceships for treasure. The first one was looking for fresh ideas to prototype in incubation at Rovio, second was an idea a friend and I prototyped after but left on the backburner, and the last one became Flinthook, released on Steam in 2017. Often these are to look for a game worthy to spend time on!

I looked up the release date and date of reviews of Panzer Paladin and Flinthook and both coincided on the same day. And both are great games. Seems to be a strategy they prefer.

I'm pretty sure this was top 2 in my Game of the Year 2017. Fucking Flinthook! store.steampowered.com/app/401710/F...
unlabelledView post →Absolutely! Are there any examples that stand out to you as missed opportunities; roguelikes you would have loved to see granted a "campaign mode?" For whatever reason my mind keeps dragging me back to FlintHook, a Tribute game from 2017, before the trend had even solidified in hindsight...
unlabelledView post →Flinthook- The one real pleasant surprise of the night! An action roguelike with a (TECHNICALLY space) pirate theme, heavily involving an omnidirectonal hookshot. It has absolutely EXCELLENT sprite art, really nice music, snappy pacing, fun movement tech. Just a really pleasant game all around.
unlabelledView post →I liked Flinthook the most because it was a game where if you wanted to do better you could literally tell yourself "Try to look cool" and it would help haha, I like speedrunning small games like this fun rhythm one called 140, I also like Pizza Tower, Panzer Paladin, I've speedrun mario 64 too!
unlabelledView post →I sometimes like to speedrun games! There was a while where I had 1st place in quite a few categories for a game called Flinthook
unlabelledView post →LOVE Flinthook! Imo it’s the best non-brawler game Tribute’s ever made. The movement is SO GOOD
unlabelledView post →Very cool little video! Is this just a sprite animation or actual game footage? Also the music very much reminds me of one of the songs from Flinthook.

unlabelledView post →11. Flinthook I feel like I'm one of four people that played this. I quite liked it! fun little roguelite, though I distinctly remember obstacles in the foreground blending in with the background. also, my current banner is from this game!
unlabelledView post →It took 3 tries (glad I announced this stream as "experimental" :flan_guns:), but I got to show 40 minutes of #Flinthook on stream and really love this game! :flan_hearts: It's now uploaded at https://youtu.be/b6I0yyvJUWE! Highlights: - space meat at 32:42 (must be a variation on the famously delicious wall chicken :flan_aww:) - learning from Gwarlock that I need to "eat more books" (24:42) - a profound moment of self-reflection after killing 3 pufferfish on #OpenBSD...
