What people are saying
Mixed reactions: fun pet shop sim with AI art and grind issues.
Many players enjoy the game's core loop of managing a pet shop, praising the variety of animals and the responsive developers. However, a significant number criticize the excessive grind, slow progression, and the use of generative AI for wall art. [1][3][11]
Common complaints include clunky controls, poor employee AI, and a loan system that makes no sense. Some players also note that customers don't bring items to the register, forcing you or staff to fetch everything. [26][31][9][35]

60 of 210 · most liked firstThis is a 'soft' non-recommendation, and one that kind of hurts me to write, because I can see promise - unfortunately, promise does not a finished game make. Perhaps this game would be better off as an early-access game; it would be great to see some updated focused on improving the polish and adding some more features to fill the idle time. As an animal lover this game both brings me joy and brings me pain. I do not particularly feel great about encouraging certain exotic species be bred and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great idea, TERRIBLE design. Doesn't even bother following some of the basic design choices of other simu games, let alone other shop simu games. Every thing you need to do is a challenge to figure out. -Want to follow the tutorial? Have fun being railraoded into building half a building. -Want to fully build your store? Too bad, you don't start with hardly enough money to add a roof. -Want to set an item price? It's an entirely different menu from the shelf menu (and default sell prices are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like it could be a fun game, but I do agree with a lot of other reviewers. It's clunky at best and you can absolutely lock yourself into a half built store. Also starting on fish is okay, i suppose, but maybe having more option for people to start their store differently would be cool. The getting the pet for the customer i can understand, but stuff on the shelf?? That they could easily grab? That one could be much better and easier if they were allowed to bring their own stuff. HOWEVER…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like shop management, growing a business from the ground up, customization, and breeding animals, DO NOT buy this game. -The economy feels bad. People will buy practically anything, you have a constant stream of customers, you get money too fast, and the only thing done to balance this is making things expensive (which doesn't matter because it's insanely easy to get money). -There's no sense of progression whatsoever. Getting sales and doing minor shop tasks gets you XP that fills up a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm really torn on Yes or No for recommending this game because it's fun, but there's some seriously frustrating functions within the game that make it more likely to be dropped from play long term. Pros: - The animals look great and there's a lot to choose from. - The shelves, accessories, habitats, etc., also look good. - Love having the ability to set a spot as a designated product spot or leave it open for whatever. - It's great being able to hire people right away to help with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE animals and i love simulator games, so i'm so far really enjoying playing this! the only downside i've found is the animals enclosures not being accurate, its not a major issue that will stop me from playing as it is just a game BUT being able to buy multiple breeds of fish with one tiny fish bowl isn't correct and the rats being housed in an open glass square, i just wish it was more educational on the correct way to look after these animals and their correct housing! i was expecting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is far more difficult than it needs to be, and unfortunately I didn’t even make it past the tutorial before giving up. The building and construction system is overly complicated, and the controls feel unintuitive. It would be much more enjoyable if the game simply expanded automatically and allowed you to place or move items while inside the store, rather than relying on a restrictive bird’s‑eye view. I usually give games a fair chance, but this one was honestly a disappointment. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a soft non-recommendation. The game isn't awful it's just really awkward compared to other store simulator games. I have issues with some things, such as how customers won't come to the register with their items so you or your staff have to run around and collect everything they want from the shelves, I truly don't understand the thought process behind this mechanic. Restocking animals can be a pain, some animals (and other stock) you can only carry one at a time which makes stocking…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very long review, but I typed it because I really do see the potential of what this game can become with some constructive criticism and outside ideas. AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, I can't recommend the game, but with some fresh ideas and adjustments, it would be worth the $15 and possibly more, here's why: So far it's just okay. You stand around quite a lot once you're done restocking the animals in your store, especially if you've hired a cashier and someone to clean/feed the animals.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Exotica 2 has a great concept, but the gameplay gets bogged down by excessive micromanagement. Instead of feeling like you’re running a pet shop, it often feels like you’re juggling endless tiny tasks that never let you relax or enjoy the animals. Too many small tasks, not enough meaningful gameplay You’re constantly: refilling things clicking menus repeating the same actions managing tiny needs that don’t add depth It becomes busywork instead of fun. The charm gets…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a sim game fan, its difficult for me to give a game like this a negative review. The style, the graphics, the awesome building and expansion capabilities are all really awesome. If there was a middle ground review like an "orange" review then I would put this game there. My biggest gripe is that people dont carry anything to the cashier. You or your staff will need to run to the shelves / tanks / cages etc to get every item a customer wants to buy. This is extremely annoying to deal with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros; Really great little time wasting type of game. I'd recommend it for casual players and those who like to organise and design their own stores. Cons; Grind. It's an absolute grind between levels to get the unlock points to keep expanding and the shop really seems to die in regard to customers and sales once you hit level 15+. Requests: Dogs - where are the dog toys, the dog beds, the dog leads, harnesses, flea & tick & heartworm control. Dog washes! Theres literally so much more this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game. Graphics are cute, progression is decent. But it gets really overwelming doing it all yourself. Which, you have to do unless you want your employees to absolutely cause chaos. Devs, make it so employees respect where you put things, and stop bugging out so hard. I'm not paying them to glitch out and refuse to clean a fish tank. I'm not paying them to take all the nicely organized sales shelves and turn them into random 'put it where ever, its fine' chaos. I can't recommend…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT - I just noticed that they used ai for the wall art. Completely unnecessary and it looks terrible. If they remove this then I will once again recommend this game. If you like pets or simulator games then this is a great option. There are tons of aquarium games but this is the best I have found that focuses on more than just fish. I am hoping that they add a ton more exotic animals. This is not really an exotic pet shop sim, every animal in this game might be found at your local pet…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow, sooooooooooo slow. Its like watching paint dry, level up buy a couple things then have to wait a couple days to level up again with the 1-2 customers in the shop at the same time. breeding takes so long, growing takes so long. and then theres only 4 customers a day to buy the product. the cashier does the customers shopping for them, they go get every item individually. the fact this game isnt in early access blows my mind. its not finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a dream game in CONCEPT but nightmare in execution. money is too easy to get. no punishment for setting prices to max. too many clicks to get through a ui. extremely buggy, i often had to save and relaunch the game only an hour into it. too easy to get money. tutorial is awful, can't finish building your shop. have to hand pick every order for customers. you sell out of product and animals faster than you can stock them leading to a huge amount of money on day 2. cats sold in glass boxes?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having played lots of simulator games, I can safely say this one has a long way to go. This is not a mopping simulator, yet you have to mop the floor after every couple of customers who finally decide to enter your store. The store gets dirty way too quickly, and it breaks the flow, you're spending more time cleaning than actually running the shop. Customer traffic is also way too low early on, making the money and XP flow painfully slow. It gets to the point where you're barely making…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a lot going for it while simultaneously leaving a lot to be desired. It scratches that itch in me to consider starting my own pet store venture capitalist dreams without the overhead costs, algae and smell of cedar woodchips. But my main complaints seem to be tied up in what could be referred to the developer(s) swimming halfway to an island, getting tired and swimming back to shore. Things feel a little undercooked in some areas, while overcomplicated in others, which is a…

unlabelledView post →I would recommend this game if you love managing and having pets. This met all my expectations, when I brought it didn't think it was going to be a game I was going to get into but its been an amazing experience. This game is one of the best stimulation games I have played. Exoctica pet simulator game has got me hooked to say the least. Only a few hours into the game and so far got fish, otters, Hamsters, love birds, budgerigar and both large birds so far yet so many more animals to unlock and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's alright, it keeps you busy and there is a lot of animals but it takes forever to unlock them because it takes forever to level up. Some levels you get 40 stars some you get 20, like level 11 I got 20 but level 8 I got 40 it should be opposite the higher level you get should get more stars. I don't like how the cashier has to go get everything for the customer I understand getting the animal but every little accessory the customer could get themselves it takes awhile to do one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played a LOT of simu games, and this is horrible, you have to get the products yourself, they dont drop it on the counter. floor gets dirty after 2 customers..... patch this and ill change my review. but for now its a "uninstall and tell others its a no-buy!"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a situation where I wish we has a Neutral option to vote with. The game itself is great, standard Store Sim game, nothing fancy, BUT, the controls are finicky (and I have no idea why they set them up this way), and there are a TON of glitches and bugs (such as staff not working unless you shut the game down and manually reboot it every 12 game hours, which is insane). I recomend waiting for a few patches and going from there. Hopefully the Dev will update with some fixes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is amazing i love that u can breed animals and have animals as pets but what i hate about it is that u cant name the animals even the pets but eather then that is amazing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really love everything about this game, i got super excited seeing they included tarantulas and would LOVE if you guys added other kinds of inverts and just more supplies even. However I did not read the description enough to see the use of AI warning. I would not have purchased this game if I had seen that. This game is beautiful and genuinely so amazing, PLEASE PLEASE CHANGE THE AI IMAGES. They are ugly and wont ever be used anyways. Real images like in the rest of the game would be SO much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing this game for about a week now and did a bunch of research before I had bought the game to see if i was even going to be interested in it. I honestly have been looking for a game like this for a long time. It is a all around great game but I do have a few suggestions. The NPC workers you have working such as "warehouse workers" seem to get stuck thinking for to long and wont get stuff put away of stocked in a decent time and will run around randomly a lot in addition to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems great on paper. Falls short almost instantly if you can't get it for free don't get it. It's not worth it. Hope I can get a refund
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →relaxing game. my only grief with the game is the money making. its very realistic but the loan prevents progression from the game. instead of being able to borrow money from the bank for capital, the game only allows you to get a loan if you have twice the amount of the loan you want to get. why would i need a loan for 25k if i already have 50k? like something aint right here
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really a bad game. After tiring myself and buying all the animals, and spending hours in the game just to set up the plan I was waiting for, I even finished it yesterday. Now, when I enter, instead of seeing the word 'Load Save,' I find 'New Game.' Where is my save after all this effort? The game hasn't saved anything since I started playing, and I've spent 42 hours in it. That's a lot when I like a game. But in the end, what happened? I didn't read the comments before downloading it. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried so hard to like this game, but it simply did not click. I looked past the clunky controls, I looked past how ugly our store is and how some of the ugliness just cannot be fixed - I tried very hard. The idea of a pet shop simulator was so exciting to me, but it simply did not live up to what I hoped. Even with all of its flaws, I was still willing to play the game and progress, because I really wanted to. However, the bugs are an issue. I finally had enough when my tool wheel simply…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This would be an absolute no brainer favorite game of all time, if they just dropped the generative AI slop from the decor. The game is beautiful!!! We don’t need the wall art I promise, we are better off without the AI. Having said that, this is exactly what I want in a pet shop simulator. The build mechanics are a bit clunky, most furniture cannot be moved, only placed and deleted, but serviceable. The staff system works well, the breeding mechanics are fun, and the satisfaction from growing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely pathetic.. Most of the images are obviously formed from ai. The npc's also look as though they were thrown together by paper and glue in some art class that a 5yr old made... The animals themselves look great, that pretty much the only thing this developer even put effort into. Please don't waste your money, buy this on sale if your at most curious... But otherwise its a cash grab and such a horrible waste of time. Do better devs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I call this game a really ambitious failure. Right away, this game becomes a 'Cardboard Box Tossing Simulator' - remove the product from the box, stock the shelf, place the empty box in the dumpster outside. Quickly, your time is spent far more on carrying cardboard than literally anything else. That's the reason I gave up on this game the first time. I come back to see they've add a 'quick sell' feature - you can now sell the boxes. Fantastic. I don't care if they sell for 0 dollars - I'm just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Refunded the game after about 30 minutes. The tutorial was very confusing. You get forced to build a house, but I had no idea what I was doing at that point in time and just built "something", hoping that I can just quickly fix it later. Nope. Not in the tutorial. I built the entrance on the opposite side of the wall on accident and could not remove it, as the game railroaded me into getting an employee and assigning them as the cashier. Which I could not do because oh! The employee I hired…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun grinding game, Devs are on top of the bugs and fixing all kinds of things multiple times per day. Looking forward to this game consistently developing and becoming more fun and entertaining!!!! Not like other sim games where devs release and completely neglect suggestions/fixes for months at a time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Exotica 2: Pet Shop Simulator launched today, and overall it’s a welcome addition to the shop simulator genre. The pet shop theme is a great choice and feels refreshing compared to the usual supermarket sims. Managing exotic pets, setting up the shop, and interacting with customers is genuinely fun and has a lot of potential. The core gameplay loop is enjoyable: stocking items, caring for animals, expanding the shop, and watching it slowly come together is satisfying. The atmosphere fits the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Devs are quick with their updates and if patching bugs. I've found a bug once and the next time i played it was gone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the idea of this game. Supermarket simulator but with pets, great. Unfortunately while there are so many different animals this game feels rather unrewarding... I feel like with introducing more animals and products I should be having more customers and therefore more money bit by bit. But despite some days earning a tiny bit less and some days earning some more, I don't. These star points take ages to get but even with multiple fish, hamsters, rats, budgies, love birds, ring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would LOVE some Hognose Snakes with morphs. I've been watching a lot of Snake Discovery on youtube, and while the ball python breeding is probably my favourite part of the game, I would be estatic if I could breed a lavender superconda hognose. Honestly I was so happy to find out that this game lets you breed morphs, I was looking for some like that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes i recommend this game. Does it need a lot of work yes. but its still a wonderful cozy game. THINGS I RECOMMEND TO GROW GAME 1, Grow time for all animals needs to be a little shorter. 2. Possibly making a way for a worker to stock animals from a stock pile that you can manage! 3.more customers during the day i only sell a few items a day, maybe as you level up your customer rate also increases. 4. Selling fish has become almost non existent now that I have unlocked other animals. 5.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great! Reminds me of TCG sim lol. Brand new there are some things that need to be worked out like stocking shelves you cant permanently change the shelf to what item so your stockers just fill every thing with anything in stock on your shelves. Speaking of there is a problem thats pretty consistent in the free move/place you then cant stock the shelves. You can have your animals roam in and out your actually pushed to do outside stuff with the pool and spoiler Otters! Great way to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Already have put multiple hours into this and cannot wait to play more! Loving this and loving the variety! Cannot wait to see what features get added with the employees and stocking / ordering! 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has the potential to be really fun and just really falls flat. The gameplay loop is insufferable, the inventory management sucks, and it's SO slow. I liked what I played of it at first but it got stale very quickly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR at bottom. A good pet shop game held back by weak management systems I put 61 hours into Exotica 2, reached level 31, earned every achievement, and finished with $2.64 million and 346 unspent unlock points. Overall, I think it could be a pretty good game, but I can’t quite recommend it. Early on, I genuinely enjoyed unlocking new animals, seeing them in my store, and discovering what they looked like as adults. I especially like that almost everything is available to unlock…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game ruined by frustrating employee AI I actually enjoyed this game a lot at first. Building the shop, unlocking new animals, breeding them, raising offspring to Stud, managing prices and slowly growing the business was surprisingly addictive. The biggest problem for me is the employee AI. Once the shop gets bigger, there are simply too many things to manage manually. This should be the point where employees make your life easier, so you can focus on things like breeding and expanding…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**WAREHOUSE SIMULATOR** I don’t even know where to start. I really wanted this game to do well because it looks promising, but man, it has so many issues. I was actually going to gift this game to my niece, but after trying it myself I changed my mind. First, the controls are unnecessarily complicated. I got stuck during the tutorial because there is no undo button, and the tutorial itself blocks previous tools that you sometimes need to go back to in order to proceed. The whole breeding system…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game kind of sucks already. It is not intuitive at all, in terms of similar game standards. I really don't like the idea of fulfilling orders for customers that are coming to the counter. The first sign of dumb-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was when the tutorial told me to pick up the "cardboard"... It's a damn box, you idiots! Interesting game, painful to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely love the game. It would be amazing if there was a better animal storage system and if workers could throw away the animal containers when empty. Other than that the game is amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can sell otters but not guinea pigs. I riot.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I paid £3.31 for this game. That was £3.31 too much. Every single control is painfully unintuitive. The developer has clearly never been to a shop or played a video game before. It took me 20 minutes to figure out the controls, and then I immediately got product stuck in my hand and couldn't interact with anything. It's a miracle this aquarium simulator has positive reviews. 10/10 never playing again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game but I just couldnt. Why am i having to pick out every single item that someone wants to buy?? I have yet to see any other sim game I play have that concept. I totally understand picking the animals, but picking out everything for the customer?? That was too annoying for me honestly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just don't, seriously don't
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tutorial needs to be changed and the placement is horrible. I can't even get through it without being so annoyed. Hopefully it gets fixed because the game has a lot of potential
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been spending a good amount of time in this game and overall it’s a solid experience with a lot of potential, especially thanks to the developers ongoing support. One of the big positives is how responsive the dev team is. They clearly listen to feedback and regularly roll out fixes and improvements. Visually, the game is impressive, graphics are high quality and the animals look realistic. I also enjoy the employee system, there’s a good variety of employees to hire, wages are reasonable…

It definitely has some potential and quite a bit of updating needed, but overall I'm having a really great time getting immersed into the business I'm making in the game. There's just one thing that really makes no logical sense to me. Bunnies exist inside of their enclosures, fish are correctly represented in their aquarium, and products on shelves seem reasonably visually appealing. ❎ Ultra-Widescreen: Not only does this not fully support ultrawide, but attempting to do so will cut off some important visual elements entirely such as the visual indicator of male/female live animal selection on the hand-held scanner, which you…
