WAIT FOR A SALE I know this is mean way to start a review but if you are going to take anything with you from this review, take those two sentences. Now with that out of the way, let’s begin. The human mind, its wasted potential and other nonsense Etherborn is a game that tries to way too hard to be deep and meaningful. The second you start a new game you will be hit with confusing statements how the human mind and body are…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →etherborn is a puzzle platformer that involves perspective manipulation, even if only passively. you're simply running up walls and the camera does its thing automatically. and pretty badly, I might add, and there's no way to control it. recommending a gamepad is one thing, neglecting the fact that computers have a mouse, often used for camera control, is inexcusable. at least it works in the menus and the camera can be zoomed out a bit, but only while holding a hotkey. keyboard controls aren't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Etherborn is a surreal 3D spatial and gravitational puzzle game with a small emphasis on exploring. The goal is to find the orbs and bring them to switches - this changes the landscape, allowing access to new areas and eventually the exits. It’s short, with 5 levels total, but once completed, slightly more difficult puzzles are unlocked with ‘Game +’ mode. There is no timer and when combined with the beautiful soundtrack and visuals, it makes for a very calm and casual experience. The only…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had me fighting both the camera and controls within seconds of starting it, and so into the garbage pile it goes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey! I bought the game through a bundle and now my key was revoked? WTF? Literally asking for bad reviews....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I needed less than 3 hours to finish the game without NG+. Definitely recommended. Artwork, sound and music are very enjoyable. The puzzle elements are fantastic. They were somewhat hard but not frustrating. I also really liked the story. The only two downsides are: - it's rather short - credits are not skippable and pretty long
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Camera is a nightmare that prevents you from seeing your goal so there's no chance to actually plan/solve your path to your destination. Some of the walking segments are stretched to tedium in order to serve visual style. Ok "Story" though it definitely missed me. Mostly a walking simulator with interesting vistas where you just follow the next path blindly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first, this game seems to be a fun puzzle game, but unfortunately, the automatic camera rotation and awkward jump physics make it nearly unplayable with a keyboard.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The visuals are nice but I got bored before I even finished the final level ... of only 4 levels. I got this game cheap and it still feels like a waste of time. It's one of those puzzle games where someone is very softly and pretentiously talking about tangentially related philosophical concepts that don't actually mean anything. 25 bucks is insulting. 3/10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls felt bad. All the perspective changing made controlling the character annoying for me. I like the atmosphere of the game though. It looks nice and pretty.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"They were beings of stone" We JoJo now? What an esoteric, beautiful clever little game Etherborn is. "Wait" you may be thinking, "Why the negative review then?". Story It's a strange new world, untill you realize the story consists entirely of a voice that gives esoteric explanation about nothing in particoular on the same boring background while nothing interesting happens. Gameplay Gravity shifting mechanic based on where you're standing is always a good concept especially if accompanied…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →▪️Etherborn - Reaching the Nothing ▪️ Made by Altered Matter and published by Akupara Games we play as a voiceless being on a 3D surreal and minimalistic low-poly puzzle-platform, that born in a world where bodiless voice awaits your arrival, and you must reach this ethereal born in order to understand your own existence. In this world gravity doesn't obey the laws of physic, and surfaces are the ones changing where you fall and what you stand, depending the perspective.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Etherborn is a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, as it's very much designed for the handheld/console gaming audience. It's one of those lame "platformers" with an Escher like gravity inversion mechanism where you can walk on the ceiling/walls etc to get around each puzzle platformer level. There's nothing unique or interesting here beyond some particularly lazy technical implementation and minimal effort assets disguised as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating:5/10 Completion difficulty:3/10 I'm conflicted on this game. It looks pretty good. The gameplay is decent, and you'll have an acceptable game during the game's short runtime. However, it asks you to clear it twice, with very little changed, the concept's been done before, and it's just on the edge of being recommendable. I think if you vibe with the artstyle a lot, you should grab it, but it wasn't a big hit with me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Similar to Youropa, a puzzle game where you defy gravity and flip the world perspective around. Too heavily focused on looking pretty over fun gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The puzzles don't really evolve over the course of the game (you've seen all the game's tricks after the first stage), the narrative is philosophical meandering, and the platforming is anemic. The aesthetic is excellent, but that can't carry a game on its own.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre Etherborn is a 3d gravity based platformer. I’ll just get straight to the point. I got it for around 4 euros during a summer sale, and I don’t think it’s worth its full price for the type of content you get. The gameplay itself is okay. Gravity/perspective switching platformer action is a type of puzzling I typically enjoy. NG+ felt too similar to the standard run to me and I did not appreciate some of the orbs being fully out of sight in bushes. The areas themselves were well…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a meh game overall, but for a game where perspective is key, they don't let you control the camera? Pros and Cons: +Interesting puzzle idea, playing off perspective and orientation -Can't control the camera in any meaningful way (like to rotate around corners or realign your view to your character) -Lets combine bad camera angles, with clunky platforming! And what else goes great with that? Maze-like layouts! And backtracking! -Existential narrative

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The puzzles are alright, even stumped me once because I wasn't sure how to reach one area until I remembered that I can do a thing in reverse. My issue is with the controls – the camera appears to be the main villain of the game. I had a very unpleasant time fighting with the controls and trying to rotate the camera beyond its fixed origin, which is simply impossible. It followed me properly when changing the orientation, but I really wish I had more control over it to look around, especially…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great little puzzle game but not without it's flaws. 7/10 Pros: - There was an organic 'now you're thinking with portals' moment, where things clicked, which always feels great. -Fantastic concept and level design, for the most part - Can be completed in a single session, and achievements are easy - + mode was perhaps even more fun than the normal mode, or fun in a different way. Meh - Skipable cutscenes but unskipable, long animations at times Cons: - Story is awful, but puzzle games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite owning this game, I got a notice that my license for it has been revoked? I... what? EDIT: 05/21/2024(was when it was re-instated) Developer reached out to those who bought the game through a bundle(Like fanatical's fiesta bundle last year), and was extremely helpful. Definitely recommend. My negative review was only because it was suddenly removed. Nothing further.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very short and, in the main, good platform puzzler. The mechanic is the same as Youropa, which is superior both in terms of length and of puzzles. The objective here is to collect orbs and deposit them in switches to progress. There are four levels plus a tutorial, and you will be done in about 90-120 minutes. Then you can do New Game +, where the orbs are placed in more difficult positions, and it is here where there is a major problem with the game. In the first level, the orb is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cool little puzzle game about traversal and gravity, devoured it in one go and got sad there wasn't any more. Not much else to say, there is some story but it is some flowery philosophical nonsense I tuned out by the second minute, and it has zero bearing on the actual cool gameplay bits, so it doesn't really affect it. This kind of game could easily support more levels and puzzles, so it's a bummer there's only like 4 levels in it (+ the same 4 levels on hard mode), with each mode…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't really point my finger at what exactly the problem was but this perspective puzzle platformer game just didn't quite click with me. I just didn't really care for it and didn't really enjoy it. Based on other reviews it is more likely a me issue not a game issue. Works without any issues on Linux with Proton (9.0-4).

The art style is absolutely mesmerizing, creating a dreamlike world that you’ll want to explore endlessly. The gravity-defying puzzles are innovative and challenging, making you think outside the box as you navigate the environment. The way the game plays with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Linear "puzzle" platformer. Complete-able in ~1.5 hours, 3-4 if you want full completion. It played fine on keyboard for the most part, but one of the jumps in game+ pretty much required controller. Verdict: Worth playing, not worth buying

unlabelledView post →This is a really well designed puzzle platformer. The game itself is not difficult, however some of the levels take longer to figure out than others. It took me about 4 hours to complete the game twice and unlock all the achievements. I really loved the art style and the colours that the developer used. It helps a lot to see the different levels of a specific area as well as show where you can and cannot walk to rotate the map. The only thing that bothered me after a while, was the fact…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game, but it is held back by so much. The great things about this game: - Visuals are spectacular - Level design is intricate and stylistic - A new puzzle mechanic per level - Great music - Good voice acting The bad stuff: - Tedious af. Sometimes it can be annoying to die and respawn at a point that sets you back quite a bit, not to mention the long walking game that almost turns it into a walking sim - The game is too easy, although for some reason there is also an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a beautiful game with bad controls. You don't go straight (as in parallel to the ground, you are 5 degrees off) and it is mighty annoying
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Eh. Aesthetically, and aurally it's an ok, but the game itself leaves a lot to be desired. It's basically a really short walking simulator in the guise of a set of really confusing 3d puzzles which pad out what is essentially... nothing, at the end of the day. Neither the narrative nor the puzzles were enjoyable, so as a game I can't recommend it at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unskippable repeating cutscenes. Puzzles that don't feel rewarding, usually there's one correct path, if you go wrong you just end up earlier. I guess mapping out a 3d space in your head can be interesting, and the reward would be completing the puzzle faster. But they're just not that interesting. It looks okay, has a few cool vistas. Story was barely there and what was is not connected at all to the game. But you get some voice lines... Even with its short length I do not recommend it. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A perfectly competent short puzzle game, I feel you move a bit slow and the story is a little heavy headed with it wanting to be philosophical and deep but the game is so short it comes off as a bit much and just skipped through it. I do like me a physics, environment changing puzzle.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty puzzle platformer that has a creation story thrown in as well as a headache. :P Gravity is something of a mystery even if you think you can follow the logic of the landscape it curveballs you off the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ side sometimes. Sometimes, you think you've got it and you're feeling confident except what you were supposed to do was go past what you thought was the next obvious step and do some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tedious backtracking because ♥♥♥♥ you! positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is great, the presentation is spot on (if a bit pretentious) and the voice acting / writing really get across the quite serious intent behind this game - essentially a retelling of a life-changing acid experience in video game form. But it's everything else that leads to the game just falling apart. The camera absolutely blows, with very restrictive controls. When you're dealing with trying to work out which direction is up or down in terms of gravity and the camera isn't even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Etherborn" looks visually stunning, but that’s about where the praise ends. The gravity-shifting mechanic is interesting at first, but the level design quickly becomes more frustrating than fun. The story tries to be deep and philosophical but comes off as vague and forgettable. It’s a short game, and yet, it still manages to overstay its welcome with slow pacing and awkward movement. Feels more like an artsy tech demo than a game you’d want to revisit.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6.5/10 The score feels a little low and harsh but I can't honestly give it anything higher. There's nothing inherently bad about the game, it's just lacking something special. The game plays well, the perspective-based puzzles are a fun concept, and the art, music, and atmosphere are all lovely. The game is polished, well made, and has no real technical issues. Where it falls flat for me is that the game boils down to a short hop through some fairly simple puzzles, and I found that it just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid premise, I've played similar games with funky gravity mechanics. I liked the art style, and do find lore-heavy games relaxing. The camera controls were a bit lackluster which made the few precision jumps a bit fiddly, but that was minor issue for me. Unfortunately Etherborn seems to have not decided what kind of game it wants to be. It feels like it needs more detailed lore/cutscene/voiceovers to be a proper lore-game, more mechanics to be a puzzle game, more levels to be a platformer.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Etherborn: A Gravity-Defying Puzzler Etherborn is a wonderful game and it is indeed visually striking. However, it's not just a pretty face; it's a captivating puzzle game that avoids the usual pitfalls of overly artsy platformers. You play as a silhouette with a visible nervous system, on a quest for something significant, I think. Frankly, I wasn't invested in the plot's complexity. Cutscenes feature a shifting celestial spectacle as a woman narrates an abstract tale. It's okay; my…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I personally enjoyed the game, but I wouldnt exactly call it deep. Its a simple puzzle game that uses gravity and platforms as the main (and really only) mechanic. Its OK but thats it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice puzzler. Well done esthetics and music. my only critique besides wanting more of it is sometimes the camera angles and panning could be greater , but its only minor. definitely not a deal breaker.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A chill minimalist puzzle game centering on bending gravity/perspective. A bit short, could've used a couple more levels/puzzle twists. A pleasant experience.

I got around to finish playing through it today at the time of writing this. Controller was used for game input. I love the music and the pretty environment in this game! It's relaxing too. The maps are easy to solve, so you have to defy gravity by walking/running on ramps to flip the world perspective. Depending on how long you finish solving the maps, you'll be able to complete this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A 3D platformer/puzzle game where you play an anatomy dummy wandering through a dreamlike world, solving puzzles involving wireframe dodecahedron placement and changing gravity based on where you're standing. The core mechanic is that by walking on curved surfaces, you can change the relative "down" for the skinless protagonist which allows you to drop onto ledges that were previously impassable walls and that sort of thing. It's a clever idea and too clever for me apparently because I got…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat 3 dimensional puzzler, took about 2 hours the beat the normal game (there's a more challenging new game+). Of course with this kind of game the controls and camera take a hit since the Escher physics don't map well to gamepads, I'd say it works fairly well considering, but still annoying when you fall to your death because the camera shifts. Remember to toggle run to always on, still not very fast but the walk speed is arduous.

The good: Aesthetically beautiful Relaxing new agey music Early puzzles were fun About the right length (it took me 4 hours to beat) The bad: Last few puzzles introduce a new mechanic, and I would not have figured it out if it weren't for a YouTube walkthrough. I would have preferred a longer game with easier puzzles. The story/narration is pretentious new age gibberish. Verdict: For puzzle game fans, I'd wait for this go to on sail. $5 or less would be about right.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a big fan of puzzle games and I really tried to be positive and enjoy this game. But I just couldn’t. It is horrible. The art-style is okay, but nothing extraordinary. The camera movement is extremely bad. The levels are poorly designed and the character walks in slow-motion (even when running). Furthermore, the puzzles were boring and either too simple or too complicated. I just can’t recommend this game at all. I will probably not even finish this game. And I personally hate leaving…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game leans so heavily into assuming that you're using a controller that it's nearly unplayable on PC with keyboard controls. After 5 minutes struggling through the tutorial (which shouldn't have even been difficult), I quit & requested a refund. I'm someone who plays everything on PC, and so I know my way around a WASD, but this just wasn't workable. It's too bad, because it seems like it would be a brilliant game.
