unlabelledView post →Wait, was the tagline for the Ender's Game film *actually* "This is not a game"? Because like... spoilers?
unlabelledView post →I know there was certainly discussions of where the money was going when they made that Ender's Game movie like a decade ago, but was anyone asking on a regular basis if Orson Scott Card would insist on making it more homophobic? It's notable that people are assuming the worst here.
unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ Ender's Game (1985) by Orson Scott Card was adapted in 2013. Prominent characters from the novel are removed for the film, which alters the story's arc. The alien "Bugger" are given more nuance in the film, which happens in the sequel Speaker for the Dead. 🛸👾🚀 #filmsky #booksky
unlabelledView post →My 16-year-old is still VERY ANGRY about the Ender's Game movie and would probably loudly argue with anyone who claimed any other adaptation of a book was worse than that one.
unlabelledView post →Not to defend Card, but the Ender's Game movie flopped because the Ender's Game movie sucked.
unlabelledView post →Card spent most of the 00s actively campaigning against same-sex marriage and was literally on the board of directors of a dedicated lobby group. All the same arguments came up against him back then and are probably part of the reason the Ender's Game film bombed.
unlabelledView post →Thread makes some decent points, but it doesn't acknowledge that ones public enjoyment of good art by bad artists is a vector for keeping that art alive in the public consciousness, making new fans and new sources of revenue for said terrible people. Its like the Ender's Game movie and funding OSC.
unlabelledView post →I think a lot about what director Gavin Hood said about Orson Scott Card on the press tour of Ender's Game 11 years ago, which should be the ABSOLUTE bare minimum in a series with this sort of legacy: www.theguardian.com/film/2013/oc...
unlabelledView post →Good time to mention that if I'd made the movie adaptation of Ender's Game, Ender Wiggins would've been very, very gay.
unlabelledView post →There was another round of "the film Starship Troopers isn't satire" over on Twitter last week but they still can't figure out Ender's Game is genuinely uncritically on their side.
unlabelledView post →What a headline. I think the Ender's Game movie flopped because of its author being a homophobe. Let's see how this bombs.
unlabelledView post →Years ago, I wrote a column on "problematic" producers of art, centering around the Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game movie. The line is the same with JKR as it was there: the creator is still alive, and directly funding hate with the money they earn from their creations.
unlabelledView post →There's nothing out there in #audiodrama like The Madness of Chartrulean. It's got intrigue reminiscent of Game of Thrones, science fiction messiah prophecies like Dune, the moral hand wringing of Ender's Game, and movie-quality writing, acting, production... it just stands above. Catch up now!
unlabelledView post →'Bout to get my reading on for the rest of the night 😏 Been revisiting a childhood favorite, now: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I read the quintet as a teen and just loved it, so when there was a movie, I was stoked! I enjoyed the movie immensely. #KoboClaraBW #EndersGame #Booksky #RewReadsBooks
unlabelledView post →I'm listening to a podcast on authors who are terrible people and they said when the Ender's Game movie came out it brought a lot of attention to Orson Scott Card's horrific beliefs and I will never get used to non geeks catching up on geek shit fifteen years after the fact. Also, they said, "And
unlabelledView post →I was ready to really not like the cinematic adaptation of "Ender's Game" but I put it on for background noise while writing this morning and instead wound up standing in front of the TV for almost the entire movie.
unlabelledView post →One of those clip channels on youtube had the end of Ender's Game and out of curiosity I decided to actually see what the movie did vs. the book. It's funny because they managed to strip out the key emotional points of the book for usual militarism BS. I can't be surprised.
unlabelledView post →Movie adaptations love to spoil stuff in promotional materials. The tag line for Ender's Game is "this is not a game", though that may go over non-readers heads.
unlabelledView post →Can't decide if it was weirder for The Flaming Lips to do a soundtrack EP for the Ender's Game movie or Mastodon doing one for Jonah Hex
unlabelledView post →I would prefer Old Man's War to be a good movie though. Ender's Game was not.... for many reasons but at least it wasn't Battlefield Earth level of bad.
unlabelledView post →After watching Ender's Game, my friend said "that sure was a movie with all the things that happened in the book". It was fine I guess? As an adaptation, Project Hail Mary is at the other end of the scale. Hews closely but not in a box-checking way. They made a great movie 👍 👍
unlabelledView post →I actually think Ender's Game would have been a good series of films, the film is actually really great and faithful to the story. But OSC had to be OSC.
unlabelledView post →Satellite eating was in a 1960's movie - You Only Live Twice. Tragedy of Ender's Game is that Orson Scott Card turned to be such a right-wing bigot.
unlabelledView post →during my lunchtime walks i have been mentally composing my response to my tumblr mutual about song choice. but then i ended up on a tangent in my head that is: oh my god, i need to find a song for a multi-vid about how novels like Ender's Game and His Dark Material got adapted terribly for film.
unlabelledView post →Oh yeah. We're very lucky that the Ender's Game movie was a turkey.
unlabelledView post →Last movie I saw was from 2023, and I can't remember it at all... Haven't been to a theater since the Ender's Game movie. I *DO* wanna see, and predict that I'd love, Project Hail Mary, though
unlabelledView post →I don't recall anything about Ender's Game specifically but there was a lot of chatter on that topic in this thread last week, in the context of the film Toys.
unlabelledView post →My favourite movie is The Fountain, and my favourite book is Ender's Game. Feeling pretty bad right about now.
unlabelledView post →The first time I noticed was in the trailer for Ender's Game. They included basically the whole film, including spoiling the twist at the end that took my breath away when I read the book for the first time.
unlabelledView post →Using MOVIE as an acronym l, recommend 5 films 📽️🕸️: M: The Martian (2015) O: Oppenheimer (2023) V: V for Vendetta (2005) I: Inception (2010) E: Ender's Game (2013)
unlabelledView post →My husband was a huge fan of the Ender's Game book, but upon hearing that Card was a homophobe, he refused to see the movie. I know he was far from alone among fans of the book in this
unlabelledView post →I kinda liked Hank Green's take on this around when the Ender's Game movie came out. Man's kinda crazy, and he probably always has been but I dunno, maybe ya gotta be kinda crazy to write somethin' like Ender's Game
unlabelledView post →Didn't realize the movie Toys was basically Ender's Game
unlabelledView post →I laughed when they were promoting the Ender's Game movie and they tried mightily to get him to shut up about gay marriage in the run up to release, and the most they could grind him down to was "the issue is legally settled" through gritted teeth.
unlabelledView post →A couple of my all-time favorite stories are by Card ("Unaccompanied Sonata" and "A Thousand Deaths"). I hated Ender's Game and walked out of the movie. Card is a very good writer but I won't read any more of his stuff.
unlabelledView post →no but for real if you're looking for recommendations my pick would probably be something from the Ender's Game movie because the evil humans learn theyre actually the bad guys for killing the aliens which is kewl
unlabelledView post →Which is ironic because the actual Starship Troopers film from 1997 seems to parody Ender's Game more than anything, because they take the Ender's Game twist (psychic kids, bugs actually have feelings) and make THAT into part of their satire of the original book.
unlabelledView post →JK Rowling is to fantasy what Orson Scott Card is to sci-fi, minus Ender's Game having the same breadth of nostalgia for a movie series
unlabelledView post →I know you didn't tag me, but I wanted to participate! 5 Favorite Things: Band: Blink-182 Novel: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card Podcast (tie): @pewpewbang.bsky.social and @fireescape.bsky.social Movie: Tommy Boy Show: Avatar: The Last Airbender
unlabelledView post →I would say Ender's Game but Card is an irl bigot i think so I will say Consider Phlebas. i dont really have a favorite movie tbh.. Nausicaä? or maybe The Cat Returns.
unlabelledView post →How does science translate when adapting a classic SF novel to the silver screen? @planetneish.bsky.social and I recently put our theories to the test with the 2013 film Ender's Game. You can listen to our discussion over on Apple Podcasts podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/p... or at popcornscience.ca
unlabelledView post →@eleanor.lockhart.contact did you ever talk about Ender's Game? Read the book a while ago, just watched the movie. Seemed like the kind of thing you might have liked, or at least been interested in.
unlabelledView post →No Star Trek/Star Wars allowed: Film/TV: Stargate + Babylon 5. Books: Dragonriders of Pern, Ender's Game.
unlabelledView post →It was perfect! It's what I wish they'd have done with the Ender's Game movie as only showing 2 or 3 battle scenes didn't get the point across well enough. Your way is a perfect example (in my opinion) on how to get the point across in an efficient and interesting way that also feels REAL.
unlabelledView post →It seems like their YA adaptation library was a priority, like The Hungy James obviously and Divergent I guess?? But even flops like Ender's Game and The Giver came over. anyways my little pony the movie (2017) made the jump and isn't that what really matters
unlabelledView post →For some inexplicable reason I rented the Ender's Game movie even though I didn't like the book. I'm experiencing regret.
unlabelledView post →i have never seen the Ender's Game movie. i have not bought any of his books since, not even used books. i have not checked out library copies of his books. i cut off support for someone who supports things like conversion therapy, and wrote that gay predators caused Hamlet in-story.
unlabelledView post →The chalk answer for me will always be "Ender's Game" (novel; still haven't bothered with the movie).
unlabelledView post →mutt just wants a small budget Speaker for the Dead film. not hollywood action-packed, not advertised as a sequel to Ender's Game, just a genuine scifi murder mystery drama starring this cold broken distant stranger. its a fascinating book that most people havent read. prime fiction material.
unlabelledView post →One #coping behaviour and a trap which I fell into for my #ADHD is trying to do one thing to not come back to things at all again. I got too influenced by the #endersgame movie. The #programmer meme - waste 1 hour trying to automate instead of spending 10 minutes to do a menial task - became my life. Some things don't scale but we still need to do it, atleast for the time being. Suffered a lot of #anxiety in this loop.

unlabelledView post →"Ender's Game" immediately popped into my mind when I read "raise up warriors." He must have really liked the movie. (I am betting he didn't read the book)
unlabelledView post →I *loved* the book; it was extraordinary! But when I love a book, I avoid the film like the plague (I'm looking at YOU, Ender's Game + Ready Player One). So I *still* won't be watching the trailer. Thanks for your important warning about it!
unlabelledView post →I'm not convinced that a single person paid money to see the Ender's Game movie.
unlabelledView post →It's probably for the best that the Ender's Game film wasn't very good, because I could see a situation where it became a full franchise brought him up to known-to-the-general-public levels.
unlabelledView post →Ender's Game is an underrated movie.
unlabelledView post →You can imagine how the author felt? We've done all Card's audiobook versions. So as balm for our souls, the same time the film premiered, Card wrote ENDER'S GAME ALIVE a full cast version of which I am very proud. skyboatmedia.com/enders-game-... @skyboatmedia.bsky.social @stefansecho.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →I was prompted to read Ender's Game when the movie was announced. It was on my, "I Should Probably Read This," list forever and I wanted to get it in before I watched the movie. Pretty much back-to-back, I read the book then watched the movie. Oy.
unlabelledView post →The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (film) is a much better version of the Ender's Game movie
