60 of 146 · most liked firstPretty interesting and challenging game. The game has influences from Hollow Knight (Art), Ori (Character voices, Movement mechanics) Celeste (Fast movement mechanics as well as the climbing to the top goal). So if you enjoy any of these games or platformers in general, you'll enjoy the game. Positives: - Gameplay and controls are very fluid (only weird thing is the regular jump has a sharp deceleration curve that makes it suddenly stop at the peak, like you hit an invisible ceiling) - The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far a very fun platformer that reminds me of Ori. However, even though respawn is near-instant, dying in 1 hit no matter the circumstances is a little annoying after a while of being on the same platforming gauntlet or boss fight. That being said, the platform is quite fun and fast-paced once you get the hang of it and because of how quickly you respawn you're right back in the action each time you die. The English translation is a *little* off at times but nothing that really takes away…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so this game is actually pretty good , what made me consider it as negative is it's lack of checkpoints before hard challenges, which results in you making every time a very long and tedious way just to be killed by one small mistake at the end and then you have to make it all over again, why make the 90% every time if the only thing that kills you is in the last part ?? the devs should have made a checkpoint before each hard challenge or at least give you the option for it , it's really a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks beautiful, you can see that it's heavily inspired by Ori, almost no bugs. solid performance overall. As I progressed through the game I asked myself why is this game isn't getting more love, I did have fun with it at the beginning. As I got closer to end game, I understood why, It's one of the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ death games I ever encountered. So absurd sequences and ridiculous enemies combined together just shoots up the difficulty spike to the sky, it just became frustrating…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game, short but fluid gameplay with a bit of replayability if you like 100%ing/speedrunning. Really fun! Hope that the devs have plans for the post-game cutscene, I'd definitely buy the DLC for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, the game is fine but it just really isn't anything special. I think the physics are very strange overall. When your character jumps, there isn't a proper acceleration/deceleration or any feel of gravity. It feels like your character just launches straight up, hits their head on an invisible ceiling and then drops back down. It is extremely janky. The worst part though is that the game is all platforming challenges, but unlike Celeste, an actual good game, this game drops you back…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit reminiscent of Hollow Knight in some of the character designs and cutscene art, but the movement mechanics remind me a bit more of Ori, or Celeste if you could barely see the level around you. I figured this would be a good match since those were some of the best games I've played in the last few years, with Hollow Knight being one of my favorite single player games of all time. Due to a number of issues I found this game to just be wholly unenjoyable. My primary issues with the game is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has heart-breakingly cheap difficulty. so many platformers enhance the difficulty by adding things that genuinely change how you need to approach progression, but this one just throws more and more enemies at you that kill you in pretty dumb ways. it's not adding real difficulty when you bloat your levels with enemies that will thanos-snap you from existence, especially on a game where the entire gameplay is meant to embrace mobility and not combat. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you wanna hate yourself play this game. This game is Hard. i mean hard hard. probably died like 1000 times. BUT its fun. its fun cause its fast pace. good movements. good art. 4/5. That difficulty tag should be on front of the store page sml
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Elypse is an interesting little game, though little is the word at about 5 hours of gameplay. It’s not what I expected and not really in a good way. It’s a bit of a rage game since you only have 1 hit and must return to your last touched checkpoint any time something touches you, hits you, is too hot to land on or appears at random in your path. It would be more enjoyable with twice as many check points as it really isn’t very fun to make two steps of progress, get killed by something you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun at the start, but the further I got the more I thought "Well, this is cheap". Dying in one hit, missing checkpoints after/during difficult sections and enemies blending into the environment make this more frustrating than fun (imo).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1 hit-death metroidvania games should not exist, especially ones that rely on pin-point accurate angles on dashes though gauntlets that will kill you if you dont have the right angle Also having to dash to 'Reload" my shots is definitely a choice, not a good one, but a choice. I cannot recommend this game, even though it is well priced.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looks like it's trying to be a mix of Hollow Knight and Ori games. I know everyone else says this but it's correct. However, it doesn't have the story that Ori does or pull you into the mystery of its world like Hollow Knight. The mechanics are not nearly as tight. You die on any hit so you have to redo a lot on the tougher challenges. The controls are not tight with a prescribed jump high that makes it feel like you hit a ceiling. The dash is sometimes hard to control and stop…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dieing in one hit to everything, sparse checkpoints (several screens back, instead of on the nearest safe ledge) and jump haveing only one set height really didn't make me want to keep playing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finished my first playthrough* in about six hours, which isn't super long and which, given a purchase price of 13.50€, equates about 2€/hour. Other people may take more or less time, but I would expect anywhere from 3-8 hours for most people. Personally, I don't play 2D platformers very often, so I'm pretty sure I wasn't super fast (there's an achievement for completing the game in 2 hours). Either way, 2€/hour is not a great value, yet despite the short playtime I would still recommend the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't call it a BAD game per say but it's definitely a game for a very specific crowd. It's a lot of precision movement between long stretches in between checkpoints. I stopped at about an hour after I realized I just wasn't having fun dying 30-50 times a section(Possibly a bit of an exaggeration I wasn't actually counting). It feels weird as I do love souls-likes but I think the main reason is that aiming your air dashes feels annoying to me and it didn't really change between the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On paper, mechanics flow together nicely. Execution on the other hand feels lacking. Controls feel awkward, especially jumping. There's no controlling the jump height, same height whether you tap Jump or hold it. Using Celestial Pulse (I'll call it Launch) kills ALL your momentum and only carries you a super short distance. Thorns are okay in concept but the recoil they give you is super large and inconvenient, often pushing you into obstacles and hazards instead of helping you. Refilling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite purporting to support Steam Deck , this game does NOT run on Steam Deck, nor Arch Linux on desktop. I hate when developers lie! It still says steam deck support on their patch notes and does nto even run in a compatibility layer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although listed as a Metroidvania, this does not really hold that distinction as it only has small mandatory branches off of a linear path, Elypse performs quite well with regarding to it's game play platforming. The basic core idea is that you have an air dash that gets recharged once you touch the ground, and a skill shot that gets recharged when you air dash. More abilities do appear the farther along you go, and Elypse does a good job of teaching the mechanics as you get them through…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No comment on the one-hit death, as that is a valid design choice that I simply don't enjoy. However, the jump is poorly designed. It hits its max height abruptly, which, combined with how much the camera follows it (I feel the camera should lag behind more), makes for a poor experience. Good art though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The lack of checkpoints is what ruined this game for me. I love precision platformers, but the amount of time it takes to complete certain areas because every time you die you have to start so far back just brings me frustration rather than joy. At that point, for me, it's just not worth playing.

unlabelledView post →Elypse is a very challenging precise platformer. For me personally this is a 5/10. I won't play it again, but the challenge was fun. If you like pain go for it, especially if it is on sale. Hence the "recommendation" Pro: - Nice visuals in an atmospheric world - Fast paced gameplay, due to chained dashes. - Good soundtrack - Great cost to playtime ratio - especially if it is on sale. - Difficult, but fun final boss. Neutral: - Dashes reload shots. Interesting concept, but probably not for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I would describe Elypse as is Celeste but with some combat. The main focus is on the platforming, but there are enemies that are placed around the rooms that might also attack you. Because I'm a guy who prefers combat over platforming, that made it a better time than Celeste. The story was cool and the visual style was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing. If you like platforming and you like combat, I'd recommend this. I've seen reviews that spoke of checkpoints and their distance apart. I personally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is visually stunning. But the difficulty was hard in the most annoying way possible. Many respawns were abnoxiosly far back and you die with 1 hit always. Many of the combat chambers could be cleared quickly using the Aura thingy that kills everything around you. Some sections needed way too precise stuff for such far away checkpoints and don't get me wrong I've played through Celeste Strawberry Jam Lobby 4, but this was more frustrating. I upgraded so that I would be immune to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this for a bit and according to a longplay I'm about halfway done (got a bit past the grapple movement ability which appears to be the last one?) but I just do not feel compelled to play any more of it. It's just not fun. The movement is tight, sure, but it doesn't feel -good-, ever. You don't do any real platforming here, it's mostly just air-dashing, and the air-dash is too fast for the screen space you're given. I see lots of complaints about one hit death and sparse checkpoints…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is the game difficult? Yes. Very. However, this game was not designed to be simple. It can be frustrating to die over and over in order to learn a sequence, but that is what makes it so incredibly satisfying. So often I found myself struggling and needing to walk away, only to come back to it later and nail it. How anyone can speed run this in 2 hours is wild to me. The graphics are great. The game immediately reminded me of Hollow Knight, but linear. The one-shot enemies were infuriating at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m torn if I recommend the game or not. I’ve been playing on steam deck which works well. It’s a great marriage between2 games I love - ori and hollow knight. It is however incredibly hard, unfair at times with annoying projectiles killing you when grapellimg and until you learn the level after trial and error. It’s important to know that you die in one hit even on easy mode. All that does of allow you to pause while blasting but you can still be hit by enemies in real time. Good news…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game and beat it after 670 deaths. Let’s be clear: I didn’t finish it because it was fun; I finished it out of pure spite and to spite its broken design. There is a massive difference between fair, rewarding difficulty found in masterpieces like Hollow Knight or ori where you actually learn from your mistakes and grow as a player—and lazy, artificial difficulty. Elypse relies on cheap "one-hit-kill" mechanics coupled with millimeter-precise platforming in a world riddled with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Elypse is a dark and demanding 2D action-platformer developed by Hot Chili Games that places atmosphere, precision, and momentum at the center of its design. Set within the depths of a cursed chasm known as the Abyss, the game follows a lone survivor who was once offered as a ritual sacrifice and somehow endured years trapped in this hostile realm. Rather than presenting its story through lengthy dialogue or explicit exposition, Elypse relies on implication, environmental detail, and fleeting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Elypse is a challenging 2D Action Platformer about a character named Fay who was sacrificed and thrown into the abyss, now you have to find your way back to the top to get out. The game offers intense platforming challenges that will put your skills to the test, but amazing at the same time, you will gain crucial abilities as you playthrough the game to overcome those different challenges. The music and sountracks were top notch enjoyed listening to them while going through each biome.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think I liked the gameplay. I don't think it's for me, but I know there definitely is an audience for it. Traversal and combat really require you to keep failing until you memorize the challenges. Fortunately for me, there's accessibility options to work around the difficulty. I've played at 70% speed and found that to be a lot more manageable. Other than that, it's not too long. I enjoyed the setting an characters. It's reasonably priced. And I feel good about completing it. It's…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating this game is difficult, as most aspects range between 4/10 and 6/10. The platforming is mostly fine: some sections are very 'die and retry', akin to an unfair mario, whole others are actually readable and become pretty good. The story is vague, but not in a soulslike fashion where you can uncover more if you explore (there is no exploration in this game, it's all linear). The character art is good in cutscenes, but in game it looks pretty stiff. Mostly it feels like a cheap Ori…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the design, BUT, the game is just not fun. It forces you to die so the next time you try to go through something you know where are monsters or where you can't touch. The game is basically just movement and eventually attacks, however, you don't know that you're going towards lava until you hit it or when you get to a point where you can reset your jump you are greeted by a dragon and dies with almost no reaction time... The last boss fight was the only one I liked and the game is too…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game. 5 hours. I bought this game because it's pretty much similar to Ori. At first sight, it looked like a cheap game from an independent company. But this game lived up to my expectations. The art is cute, gameplay is fun, not too easy and not too difficult. The story is too vague and you won't make a connection with characters. Interesting boss fights. The controls are really good and fluid. And the level design is challeging, some people might find it frustrating,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Riveting, Yet Frustrating Escapade With fast, fluid movement, endlessly creative level design, innovative combat, and a meticulous difficulty curve, Elypse is on the cusp of something truly remarkable; however, a plethora of baffling choices in the execution undermine the experience and firmly place this linear 2D platformer a few steps below the genre's best. Story and Setting You play as Fay, a Celestial and the latest in a string of unlucky souls sacrificed into a devastating portal for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is awesome! I intended to play for half an hour maximum and the game just drew me in that 30 minutes turned into 4 hours of straight playing. The graphics are really good in my opinion, and each layer/level is clearly distinctive from the others while keeping an overall feeling for the world. The beauty is emphasized by the music which adds so much to the feel. Control wise, after changing the jump button to "w" and the button for looking up to "q" it feels very satisfying. I do…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! I absolutely recommend buying it. Not only is the gameplay fun throughout, although a little hard at first, and the art stunning, but the community and especially the devs are super kind and enjoyable to chat with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runs great on Deck, and a fantastic Ori like Metroidvania.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very linear and extremely short. Couldn't turn off screen shake or controller vibration something I do in every game I play. The most annoying part about this game is you get one shot by everything I don't care if there were many checkpoints it was still annoying. Got this game in an on sale bundle and this isn't the primary game I was looking towards, but none the less wouldn't recommend anyone going out of their way to pick this one up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would say this is a really good metroidvania game. It's kind of weird to see why this game didn't get the popularity it deserved. The characters are beautiful, the movements are smooth, and the story is great, too... I hope there's a sequel of this game..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short game but has solid mechanics and gameplay. A good Platformer and fair asking price

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know those games that you REALLY try to like but halfway through you realize the novelty has worn off about an hour ago? And then you're like "Well, I started playing. Might as well try to finish!" and then the next few hours were some of the most frustrating bull you've experienced? That's Elypse for me. The game started off pretty fun. Admittedly it feels a lot, and I mean A LOT, like Ori, but I'm fine with that! I loved the platforming in that game, and the movement felt so good! And…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great platformer, if you like ori you'll like this. I think the story is very lacking though, doesn't really grab you in and feels very cliche. The movement system is very creative and extremely smooth. I never felt like I got fked by hitboxes or janky sht. Would've liked to see other secrets or collectibles outside of the main power-ups.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Challenges are good, movement is good, level design is good. Story and narration are awful, controls are bad. Overall - frustration.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ELYPSE Metroidvania where you play a spirit trying to escape from a creature to avoid sacrifice. The game is good but I gave up because I didn't have the mood to continue, but the gameplay is cool and the AD original. Play it and support the devs :D
unlabelledView post →Super challenging game that requires patience but definitely worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really, really, really wanted to like "Elypse". On paper, it's got everything that I want: a tough platformer experience, a moody art style, tight controls that are easy to pick up, hard to master. The main issues with this game are so fundamental, a patch wouldn't fix them. In the end, several unfortunate design choices make this game's potential fall into frustration and in the end, I muscled through and felt relief, not excitement, when I was done. There's talent on display here, and I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is challenging but very fun. If you're looking for a quick platformer that satisfies your craving to play a game like Ori or Celeste, this is perfect. I hope they come out with another that is a bit longer, however, very enjoyable nonetheless.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is appealing and the plot somewhat intriguing. Progress is good and the powers are interesting. What failed for me and made me abandon the game is the level design. There are often levels where you cannot see where you are going, so the only option is failing to have an idea of where to go, and then repeat. This is particularly annoying as it becomes more and more a thing. Probably not a genre for me, since I had a similar problem with Celeste which is considered a masterpiece.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summary: Good game, some areas are a bit brutal. Very "organic" platformer. The difficulty might discourage some to play as it feels kinda like Ori and souls-like mechanics got together for this one. I might have stopped if I was any less stubborn. The good - Movement is very organic. The freedom of movement you get along with your paths (in some areas) are open and almost exploitable with the sheer amount of distance you can travel between jump locations, this feels more like a feature than a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game was a lot of fun! i thought it was just a cheap hollow knight copy but it's great in it's own way. i almost gave up at the final boss, but seeing that many people finish this game in 6hrs - i don't know how, i guess i just suck lol - so if i can do it, you can do it too ;)
