Drifter
Moritz follows a boyfriend to Berlin and is soon abandoned by him. Alone in the big city, he embarks on a journey through a wide range of queer experience. Only through a new circle of queer friends does he develop his own ideas of sexuality and masculinity, leading him to a clearer self-identity. From TMDB

A wonderful fusion of tropes - horror, gothic ghost story, revisionist western & the bad town noir - & a fascinating illustration of just how much the counterculture had penetrated US society by the early 1970s.

I would highly recommend giving this a watch if you really want to see where Goichi Suda got his ideas for the art of killer7.

It’s not pedestrian and puts you straight into dangerous action. It has a great sense of drive that I really appreciate.

It started as the hitchhiker that someone I worked with that became a friend took the idea then claimed it as his own. FKER

Black Tight Killers (Hasebe, 1966) - Platonic ideal Nikkatsu crime film, looks/moves as good as Tokyo Drifter (shot by 16-time Seijun Suzuki DP) but I might like this film's swanky Eurospy/Diabolik riffing even more. Insane colors/sets, plot packed with comic book scheming, just a joy tip to toe

unlabelledView post →Rewatched Tokyo Drifter (1966), very cool and colourful Yakuza drama, our titular drifter hero has to navigate a world where old school honor clashes with the new ruthlessness of business interests, mainly thru awesome shoot em up sequences in crazy sets. He has an awesome theme song too!
unlabelledView post →Watched Tokyo Drifter (1966). Did not follow the story at all, as in there was so much convoluted yakuza plotting the movie then just starts throwing crazy absurdist action scenes to distract me even more. This movie needs to calm down.
