Sometimes, it’s nice to highlight the good things that video games can do. And also remind myself just how proud of him I am.

unlabelledView post →DK Bananza is a superb videogame, damn. Proves my thesis that the Mario team is the true carrier of the Deus Ex torch. The scale, verticality, the THREE DIMENSIONALITY of this game is so far beyond everyone else. I have no idea how their toolkit looks, how they MAKE these things???
unlabelledView post →Thinking about it, the original Deus Ex may be the king of choice in a game with a story, because your choices are significant, linked to gameplay and unforced. From the very start, for instance, whether you use or avoid lethal force against the “terrorists” determines something about you.

unlabelledView post →I hate that I seemingly can’t tell the difference between “this game is like this because the dev is in love with Deus Ex” and “this game is like this because the dev is an actual conspiracy theorist who probably has a lot of opinions about race science”

unlabelledView post →to put it this way: it's pretty cool to be the person to tell someone about Deus Ex, because it's a really weird and interesting game, but also if you're covering Elon Musk you have to know about Deus Ex, it should not be on me to tell you.
unlabelledView post →Deus Ex turns 26! (Officially tomorrow, I think.) So many memories. Connecting with a huge number of people due to this game development. Eternally grateful.
unlabelledView post →Everyone knows Deus Ex is one of the most important games ever, so I'll use its 25th anniversary to highlight another game: CyberMage: Darklight Awakening. It's a 1995 immersive sim led by David Bradley (Wizardry V-VII), Warren Spector & Harvey Smith - a forgotten stepping stone towards Deus Ex!
unlabelledView post →I would also take a pittance of my money, a mere PITTANCE and fully fund a new Deus Ex game every year and give it away for free. Instead of retweeting Ian Miles Cheong sweating I’d be like hey ask me for the new Deus Ex game and I’ll give it to you on Steam, it’s free, please like me

unlabelledView post →With every game I play, I keep thinking back to Deus Ex, and the lessons that weren't learned. Deus Ex has no minimap, no objective markers; it drops you into an environment and tells you to find something or someone. Which forces you to engage with the world, and to think, to deduce.

So, going to give the Revision community overhaul another boost - now includes the Lay D Denton mod too.

unlabelledView post →“The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control.” The most unrealistic part about this game is the fact that this all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so much to be said about the gameplay + essential, formative position it holds within game design, but a big 25th anniversary nod to Alexander Brandon, Michiel van den Bos, and Dan Gardopee's Deus Ex OST, the peak of game soundtracks' tracker era www.youtube.com/watch?v=7md_...
unlabelledView post →Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a game with a vision, just not a very good one. Many parts are subpar but it is greater than the sum. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the video equivalent of a dissociative episode. Nothing fits, everything is an inch to the left, and it makes my teeth itch.
unlabelledView post →Something I'd add is that Spector is one of the best guys ever to hear TALKING about video games. Hearing his lecture about the development of Deus Ex both gave me a greater appreciation for him and for the game (idk why the thumbnail below is from human revolution) www.youtube.com/watch?v=tffX...

unlabelledView post →I finished it for the first time, so there’s no nostalgia talk here. Now I understand why people talk about it with such high regard, this might be the best game ever made. It’s old as hell, but the topics it discusses are extremely relevant, because we’re living in the dystopian future imagined in the late 90s

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Booted it up expecting some retro jank, got a conspiracy rabbit hole so deep I’m still falling. Sneak, hack, explode, or accidentally alert half of UNATCO because you sneezed near a guard. The game lets you solve problems in ways that feel clever even when you’re absolutely not. It’s old, it’s weird, it’s brilliant, like a vintage wine that occasionally clips through the table. [9/10]
