positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can say without a doubt , this game is a winner. We can sit here and nit-pick all day long like some other reviews which say the co-driver is screaming, it doesn't support VR blah blah blah... but show me another game that costs $2,99 (on sale) with 2 out of 3 DLC that is free and gives you this kind of cool driving experience in unique conditions with a variety of vehicles and the ability to be PvP as well. Not many games like this out there at this price! Pick it up, you can thank me later.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dakar 18 is an ambitious attempt to capture a form of motorsport that most racing games simplify or ignore entirely. Instead of concentrating on short circuits, obvious racing lines, and constant waypoint guidance, it recreates the Dakar Rally as a lengthy test of driving skill, navigation, endurance, and patience. Developed by Bigmoon Entertainment and published by Bigmoon Entertainment and Ravenscourt, the game has some noticeable technical shortcomings, but its distinctive approach to rally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know I was going to write a detailed review about the ins and outs of Dakar 18. This is an old game now and this is more for me. The truth is my cat was hit by a car Friday in the day and died, when he didn't turn up for dinner or breakfast the next day I feared the worst, and saw a local facebook group had mentioned about a cat being run over that matched his description. It was 5am, the vets holding his body wouldn't open until 8.30 and I needed something to do. I'd been up to see where…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I drove into the crowd and got expelled from the race.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy this instead of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ newer game from Saber Interactive. It works better, without hiccups It looks better It drives better, without AI what pushes you around It FEELS better, where you can have sense of adventure and risk of getting lost in the middle of the dunes It allows you to walk outside of your car to use shovel to dig yourself out of sand or mud or help fellow competitors to get unstuck
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The premise of open world navigation coupled with motorsports was intriguing enough to have a look. Sadly, the game lost me during the first few minutes of the tutorial - there's a muddy patch that you'll have to traverse, and despite the offroady nature of a game bearing the name DAKAR, the sensation of "driving through mud" just was'nt there. If you played Mudrunners before, you'll likely be in the same boat. Same goes for driving on sand, which you'll be doing alot - there just isn't any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont buy it its good only for the first couple hours, then it became total insanity with wrong and misleading roadbook.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay graphically, sadly steering kills this game. Couldnt really setup proper steering with my thrustmaster wheel... same got my friend with logitech. Mechanics are great with driving on orientation, but steering mechanic killed this game for me sadly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It gives you a good idea of what the Dakar is, especially at the most challenging level. Overall the game feels like a breath of fresh air in the world of motorsport, especially the navigation system. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3443719900 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3443721781
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it for 2€ and it's not worth it.. gotta be the worst game physics I ever drove a car in.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Casuals, what's wrong with your face? Overall the game feels like a breath of fresh air in the world of motorsport, especially the navigation system. A variety of modes, maps and even the maps themselves for 40-60 minutes gives an excellent immersion at once. Сomrades, this is like!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Close to recommend, but too many inexcusable problems. I really like the concept of the "pick your own line" racing game, and I really wanted to like this one, but its just too frustrating to play. Lets start with the most important: Glitches _hard_ when loading new scenery areas on GeForce Now. it is not a connectivity problem, which makes the next few seconds of frames go to more compression or lower quality. No, the game is not feeding GeForce Now with new frames to send to my computer,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As far as I can tell, this is a better game than Desert Rally in all but a couple areas. The AI isn't suicidal and psychotic, the maps are fairly realistic, and you can go and do the full race with the proper navigation right away. It's limited in physics, vehicle selection and progression. But the new game doesn't seem to have great physics either so I call it a push. If you don't want Forza Horizon: Motorstorm edition, get this one instead. It's solid
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →>start tutorial >get out of a car >jump at the car >*car make double flip and lands on roof* >"physics" LMAO >restart >get lost on the desert >learn to read the road book I actually think its pretty good game with interesting navigation that I experienced for the first time. PS: 90% discount yo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I should have trusted the other reviews but I really wanted to like this game. This game is slow and long. If you hit a big sand bank you stay in the air for ages. The stages are so long and monotonous that you lose interest before reaching the end. It's a shame because it has some nice vehicles, including trucks. For excitement, stick with the WRC and Dirt series.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a shame that it's impossible to use it with a steering wheel (Logitech in my case). Nice idea, average execution
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to give a thumbs down to this game. I love off-roading and I was excited to play this, even being an old title. But there are some important factors that take some of the fun away. First, whoever created the handling of the cars, clearly never drove an off-road vehicle on the sand. Or, better yet, has never even seen an off-road vehicle being driven in the sand. The rear steps out of control when we break, as if we pulled the hand break, the car starts going sideways for no reason be it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jesus, there's so much wrong with this game. I expected a technical and realistic game. What did I get? Hours of bumping over dunes to find checkpoints in the desert! Vehicle handling is ridiculous, orienteering is confusing, maps are way too long (a single race is literally like an hour long), there are only two plus sides - nice immersive graphics and vast pretty environments. Otherwise - it's really worth like those € 3 I paid for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game works only when the Internet is turned off, when the Internet is turned on, the game stops working and crashes ,Windows 11
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dude, I spent year racing arcade, sim, off-road, nothing like Dakar. This game is nutty, insanely fun. I don't know where the hell I'm going, dude in the passenger keep screaming. CAP 382, TWISTY and a bunch of other crap I don't understand. Sad to say, I can't punch him dead in the face or throw his ass out the car while still moving at a high rate of speed or a massive jump. I don't know if I'm in a race or being chased by immigration. It's just sad that there's only 14 stages. So far I mange…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What is fundamentally bad in this game? 1 ! vehicle control physics ! 2 ! unpleasant, outdated game graphics ! 3 ! no "REPLAY" race option ! 4 ! poor work with sound ! Unfortunately, this game is frustration.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't have any expectations, it plays like a simulation and multiple times got me quite confused, but it's fun to play and it looks very good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel like the way point is a tiny spot on the dessert. It's so frustrating to follow the cap navigation heading and miss it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very niche game. It's not a rally simulator that focuses on physics like Dirt Rally. It's a navigation simulator. The driving is serviceable. Especially if you remove the HUGE controller deadzone by adding an anti-deadzone to your thumbstick via Steam Controller settings. To jump in to Competitor mode you will need to have a good understanding of how Dakar works. Familiarize yourself with both the roadbook & it's symbols as well as the rules of the race. It's very important to do…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dear people, this game might be the worse choice of Dakar i ever play in my life since i was a kid in 1985 i didn't have a lot friend this main reason was because i suck at life but this game suck to be a game where is the fun i don't understand why i play this this maybe because i pay it and forgot to actually refund it but no i was thinking it might be the desert part is boring but aster a few stage the game literrally tell me to stop racing just bruh
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried playing this with a Fanatec CSW2.5 (WRC rim) and, although the wheel "works", you'll need to use a keyboard as well due to poor support. Even then, it feels like something that was made a decade ago and never got past beta testing. Not worth your time or my $10. Shame, because it's Dakar time of year.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it has many flaws like less than stellar driving physics, bad on foot controls, weird wheel support, some bugs and b*tchy co-driver it still gives you nice rally raid experience. But still rally raid is not everyone
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The driving physics are not great. The car feels weightless and goes sideways if you even touch the brakes. For a game that relies so much on accurate navigation, the co-driver is terrible. The co-driver tends to be late with the directions or inaccurate a lot. It is a shame, could have been a great game for dakar fans.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely terrible, even for £2 I just paid for it. Don't even bother
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun, after you understand the navigation
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I get lost on stages, really fun if nothing to just take a truck and try to follow pace notes. I feel they really managed to keep a good balance in between the difficulty options without feeling extremely hand holding on middle difficulty, I wish there was more vehicle variation. Stages are extremely long, taking 30 minutes or more but its so worth it, really beautiful game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, what a cool game! Navigation is the key, and what makes this game so special. Do yourself a favor and do a few stages on the easy level, but then start over and play it on at least the medium. That's where this game really shines. I've started watching some of the 2021 Dakar on MotortrendTV, and the true brutality of this rally really shines through when you play at medium or higher. It can be frustrating, but really satisfying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As seen by a casual gamer with a life long passion for rally and racing games that enjoys playing on keyboard and external camera view. I really enjoyed Dakar 18. But it's missing quite some spice. Strong : ✔ Incredible map sizes. Like... seriously HUGE maps. ✔ Physics are pretty good actually, whether going through dunes or muddy ponds, jumping over obstacles or splashing through water. However ❌graphics in general seem good but not good enough for a 2018 game. Haven't done any homework…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →horrid physics, might be fun if you're into arcade style games and are playing with a controller
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →only a few hours in, but very fun. incredibly hard and turning off the coddriver is basically a necessity as he gives bad info. google a pdf of the roadbook and play with a friend, or get good at multi tasking and read the notes on your own if you like racing games you will hate this. it’s not a great driving sim but the navigational stuff is a really interesting challenge. be warned some stages can take over an hour
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey everyone! I'm a game dev from Portugal who codes and does game design, mainly in Unreal, sometimes Unity I've been doing mostly client work lately so not much to show off (soon? 👀) but I've worked on games like Dakar 18 and Super Nanny Sleepytime Looking forward to meet y'all :) #gamedev
unlabelledView post →sadly big moon interactive sold rights for desert rally, and not maked second game.. dakar desert rally its mostly for arcade gaming nothing about simulation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love it. So nice I bought it twice. Owned this on xbox then upgraded to PC. Looks amazing with UEVR.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly I have to give this the thumbs down. Not because of the game experience or content which looks really good, but because it just will not launch with my rig. A rig that I have just upgraded to with all the expected bells and whistles. If you refer to the technical discussions there's a shed load of posts with the same complaint. You just get the initial picture of an owl and then it all just shuts down. Apparently there's an issue with 11th, 12th and 13th gen chips and so on. There's a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hoped this could be a special game, but the phsyics ruins the game for me. It's beyond arcade feeling, it doesn't make sense. If you can get on with bad physics, it's probably worth the money, because it's pretty unique.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Swing and a miss. Had potential, but the physics aren't very good. I love following the real life Dakar and was excited to play this, but it was an immediate letdown. Recommend Dirt Rally 2.0 instead for a more fun sim.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Co Driver need to chill and not shout the instruction very often, the physics are good but need to more stable and easier to control for cars because too easy to roll over, very good, waiting for 2022 version of this game series
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if i want to relax in nature i play roadcraft, if i want a simulation in rough environment i play snowrunner, if i want to race i play anything else... this game unfortunately isnt good at anything really... to late to refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work with my Simagic wheel and pedals.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game fuels my autistic tendencies and allows me to send a fire truck 60 meters into the air.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It gives you a good idea of what the Dakar is, especially at the most challenging level. It's really difficult, the test on which the game was based isn't easy, but with the tutorial and over time, you'll get the hang of it. Unfortunately, there are not many players online. But you can often find some rooms with a maximum of 4 players online. The graphics are good. Don't get excited about updates and new DLCs, because the game no longer receives that from those who developed it (at least,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2024 First Impression With On Special Purchase.... Its a horrible game Started with the training as want to just cruise as early as possible.. - Co-pilot/navigator is giving me directions that do not match the map. - Suggested tracks just disappear / are not rendering or something - Handling randomly just spins out while in a gripped point (even arcade phys would feel better here) Applying for second refund ever because just not worth it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy if you have USB pedals - they don't work!! - Looks great using UEVR tho.....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for an Arcade Game, go for it, I imagine it can be good fun with a controller and the right mindset. But dont expect a simulation. When I bought the game, I hoped for it to be on par with dirt rallye as for me, that was the known benchmark for rallye sim racing at the time. Also, I was excited for a new motorcycle offroad experience. I love the general idea, but sadly, it has not been implemented in the way I hoped. Firstly, the general concept of dakar shows and works…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an awkward treasure hunt simulator for waypoints and not a racing game The primary focus of the game is not in any way on racing. If you drive too fast you get disqualified. On completely open maps the starts are still staggered. Instead of looking where you are going you have to stare at a compass heading while hoping it's correct (they're sometimes off) and you've turned at precisely the right moment (the announcements are usually late and the literal scribbles in the roadbook are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fairly entertaining, this game is not nearly as bad as advertised by some. In fact i really enjoy it. The requirement to enjoy Dakar 18 is to take it for what it is : an orientation racing game. The main thing is the orientation, the risk-taking managment and unusual environments. Driving/riding isnt the finest you'll experience but it's not breaking the experience
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like endless hours of meaningless driving in a literal box of sand?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping for a lot from this game, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Poor physics, boring landscapes which always seem very similar. They could have done a lot more with this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You would think this game had some serious updates after almost 3 years, but no. The graphics are still sub-par, the controls are still clunky, and most of all: the bugs are still there. I mean: in the tutorial, I actually flipped my car over (and got disqualified) by pushing 1 wrong button. That's just wrong. I waited several years to purchase, at a huge bargain, and still regret it. Such a shame. Don't buy. There's absolutely no reason to.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is not to bad. It's arcade for sure. Driving cars I found mostly enjoyable. The physics on the quads piss me off and make me not want to play this game. Imagine driving a 700KM stage on something that should represent a quad but this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ flies more off his quad then something else. Then he takes his time to get up, wipe of the sand, walk like he's going for icecream and continue his race. In the meantime you see the A.I on the quad putting along taking you over.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →expected to be more fun, not bad tho
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is absolutely unbearable garbage. It's not just that the co-driver is useless and gives horrible directions, sometimes sending you to the middle of nowhere, but when you're lost there are no real landmarks. You're just in a desert surrounded by sand. How can you go back to the last known checkpoint when there's nothing to visually reference? Which dune or piece of sand did you pass a few minutes ago? Everything looks the same no matter where you are. Unlike in DDR, where the maps…
