And then the Asian woman cowriting the script asked to be paid the same amount as the white man they paired her with, and the studio completely abandoned the sequel rather than do that
unlabelledView post →The only other notable movie to achieve this was Crazy Rich Asians so don't tell me movie audiences won't show up for minority actors.

unlabelledView post →lol or remember when they had that critic who hated rom coms review Crazy Rich Asians, a movie which for sure has things to critique but "sorry i didn't like the things that make this a rom com" is not part of it ;alskdnfa;sdf
unlabelledView post →lol I love this movie so much, but if my partner was filthy rich and didn't tell me until I was on a plane to meet his family that he also didn't tell me about, I'd be LIVID. Because why are you borrowing my Netflix password when you can BUY NETFLIX? #CrazyRichAsians
unlabelledView post →lived out my Crazy Rich Asians movie fantasy by landing and going straight to newton food centre for hokkien mee, oyster omelets, and satay 😍
unlabelledView post →My favourite example of this was an English class focused on historic and modern sci-fi, thrillers, and romantic comedies that I took as an elective. It would inform how I reported a big magazine feature on CRAZY RICH ASIANS, and why the movie fundamentally worked, almost a decade later.
unlabelledView post →I would say Crazy Rich Asians is weirdly a movie that directly affected my life the most, second to My Little Pony The Movie. Let's just say that movie moved me, to a bigger house.
unlabelledView post →Since the idea of dating outside your social class is no longer unthinkable, all romcoms are basically this now. It's why Crazy Rich Asians was such a good film--there was an ACTUAL conflict.
unlabelledView post →That's worse than the Crazy Rich Asians sequel fumble (they offered Adele Lim Q $110,000 and Peter Chiarelli $800,000- she walked and eventually wrote and directed Joy Ride) www.theguardian.com/film/2019/se...
unlabelledView post →It feels very goofy to say that I had a week-long, movie-like experience while on a work trip but the past week has felt like my own version of Lost in Translation, Crazy Rich Asians, and X-Men where a mutant who thought they were a freak learns they're actually qualified to work with Professor X.
unlabelledView post →I am flying to LA tomorrow. My last trip was 36 hrs in 2018 to interview an actor in a movie called Crazy Rich Asians. I will be a mentor at the NLGJA+ conference, but have nothing else planned. I'd love to hear your favorite things to do there besides visit LACMA, The Getty, and wander around.

unlabelledView post →My feelings about yet more IP aside, it's so good to see Adele Lim's career progress despite that horrible situation where she co-wrote the original "Crazy Rich Asians" screenplay — the movie was a hit! — and then was lowballed to write the sequel
unlabelledView post →This was literally a joke in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” from a few years ago. A rich Singaporean woman tells two guests her gaudy living room decor was inspired by the Palace of Versailles. One guest then whispers to the other, “and Donald Trump’s bathroom.”
unlabelledView post →The pot stickers are still great. I had a nice chat with Chef Chu himself, still making the rounds. The restaurant decor is slightly different with some movie posters since Jon Chu, their youngest son who was born after I first started going there directed "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Wicked". 7/7
unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ Crazy Rich Asians (2013) by Kevin Kwan was filmed in 2018. A faithful adaptation, the film veers more towards traditional romance. A heavy critique of class is reduced in the film. The ending of the novel is more ambiguous than the relatively upbeat film. 🇸🇬💎💰 #filmsky #booksky

unlabelledView post →Tonight’s movie: Crazy Rich Asians (2018). I wanted to rewatch after just having finished the book. Man, what an all-timer. So fun to watch, and perfectly cast. It makes me want to go to Singapore, which I’m sure was the intention of the government of Singapore in lending all those locations 😅
unlabelledView post →I am flying to Singapore tomorrow to cover an art fair and staying at the movie-esque Marina Bay Sands hotel again, the one with the rooftop pool on the 57th floor, and yes the one from the movie Crazy Rich Asians
unlabelledView post →Landed in Portland and I even watched an entire movie on the way (Crazy Rich Asians). Also thanks for the recs y'all. Surprisingly the most consistent recommended thing, despite a gamer-focused audience, is this book store even before I posted anything on here. So I must go.
unlabelledView post →I usually watch the movie before I read the books because I like to judge the film on how well I enjoy it without any prior biases. With that said I'm very glad I watched Crazy Rich Asians first because I'm 10 chapters in and kind of sick to my stomach. Elitism is elitism. Eat the rich.

The film is now on pace to become the first original film since Disney/Pixar’s “Coco”"

unlabelledView post →I finally read Crazy Rich Asians, and just like in the movie, I can’t stop thinking about how much Nick sucks. He’s boring, number one, and worse, he leaves Rachel to twist in the wind with his family and friends. She’s not after his money. She deserves more.
