Maybe you have to have made a special kind of experience to aknowledge and value the metaphor that is being told. It is an extremely deep, meaningful gaming experience, that transports an important message to all workaholics and career-fetishists. Additionally it is filled with humour, witty comments, smart cross-references to pop-culture and the gaming industry. If you like intellectual &…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay 3/10 - Extremely dull, even mocks you at a few points at how repetitive and meaningless what you are doing is. Bad move. Story 4/10 - Delibrately evasive about the story for 95% of the game. Bland resolution that left me feeling like I had just wasted 3 hours. Game makes a point of mocking people for wasting time, then wastes a lot of yours. Characters 4/10 - Only one real character beyond the background cast. Only interesting interaction takes up around 10% of the game. Sound 5/10…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so weird, I have no Idea where to begin. Maybe I Should start with the bad things fisrt. So I had two cons about this game One, the optimization, Oh lord, the optimization is poor. My frame rate was terrible and I had to have my settings set to low the entire time, and I STILL had crap frames. It was terrible, but I paid the 15 dollars for it so, at first, I thought, ok lets just push through that and see what the game has to offer gameplay wise. My second and only other gripe…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never write reviews, but this is a waste of time and money. Poor optimization, gameplay is dull, narative is interesting but completing the game in under 3 hrs. feels like they didn't even know where they were going with it. (alot of that time was troubleshooting the frame rate issue). Pass on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played through this game today. It was a beautiful game with a fairly interesting story, although presented in a somewhat bizarre fashion. Sort of similar to Lifeless Planet in this regard. However, unlike Lifeless Planet, this game just kind of droned on. It took me a little less than three hours to complete, and I really wish it had taken about half that. It became a very boring affair going out to basically do the same things over and over with minor changes to your base in between. That…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a walking simulator, so the story makes or breaks the game. In this case, the story introduces you as a planetary explorer in the Corps of Discovery assigned to one final mission for the benefit of humanity before you earn a huge paycheck and retire for an easy life with your family. Only something goes wrong and you find yourself stranded on an alien world. You decide to explore the planet anyway and successfully complete your mission, but then something causes you to black out.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You control an astronaut waking up on a space station as a recorded voice wishes you good luck with your mission, after listening to a message from your family and your mission briefing you set on the planet while an hovering robot blurts out mission parameters and HR slogans. The aforementioned story doesn't have to be taken at face value though as Corpse of Discovery wants to use it as a metaphor: while the game has an interesting premise and some good moments its dull gameplay and ham-fisted…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Corpse of Discovery begins like the book, The Martian, where an astronaut is stranded on an inhospitable planet, presumed dead though in this case, he doesn't seem to realize it. There's not much in terms of gameplay here with the exception of being able to jump and a requirement to hide from the sun now and again. CoD is more akin to a Dear Esther, a story told through environmental exploration. There are some performance optimization issues for sure, but what I saw out of my inital 30 minutes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of nowdays walking simulators wihout gameplay. They all trying to tell you a story, but most of them are fruit of graphomaniac's labour. This one particulary have no good visuals like "Vanishing of Ethan Canter", no interesting story, and gamplay is walking from one point to another.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 2 hours I've seen the end. I think I've got about 70-80 % of the optional targets. The jump part of the game is mildly entertaining but no challange. The story is okay but has no surprises. The game is playable, beside a moment where the character got stuck in the ground I haven't found any bugs. All over all I've got a game with the length of a movie for the price of a movie. I think I'll choose the cinema next time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though I feel the asking price is a little high for what you get (a 2-3 hour experience) I still enjoyed my time with Corpse of Discovery. If you are into games like Gone Home you'll probably enjoy this as it's more about discovering a story and questioning whether it was worth it more than anything else. The family stuff is played a little heavy handed in the beginning but eases off enough that I wanted to keep going to see where the story was going. There are some stand out moments with AVAs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimier - I usually like interactive storytelling done this way. The framerate seemed lower than similar games played on my crummy system, but not so bad that it hindered anything. The presentation and writing are strong. It's oddly introspective... or maybe that was just the mood I was in. Also somewhat creepy. Pacing and hidden details kept it engaging until the end. I saw some of the marketing stuff for this game at some time, but I forgot about it until a friend brought it up. It…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for slow burn horror sci-fi game in the vein of movies like Event Horizon this game will appeal to you. Be warned that this is not a FPS game and you spend a good portion exploring the world and unlocking story elements. The game play is streamlined and easy to pick up. The graphics are good and what you expect from this price point. A fun and short game that is worth picking up and spending a weekend with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game can feel a little janky/laggy sometimes, and the controls a bit wonky however the procedurally generated worlds are incredibly fun to explore. If you got a couple hours to kill this game is a pretty good buy for its current price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Want to know if you should buy this game? Check out the first 20 minutes of game play and my impressions here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3d_K1CLjfo Not as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be. So what if a game doesn't have pistols and aliens chasing you? The devs had enough balls to do something they thought was unique, and I have to admit I kind of like it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →rating 3/10. Way over priced do not buy this unless it's $4 or less This is the worst narrative story game I've ever played.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played This Game and Felt the Story. it is Worth Playing and exploring. Only a True explorer and reader can see the Story behind this. May you Enjoy this Game and story. have a great day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short. Quickly uninteresting. Repetitive. I got this game not knowing anything anything about it. I was really excited for the first 15 minutes when I saw the impressive graphics of the living quarters. Then less and less excitement until I completed the game in about 3 hours feeling like I wasted time and money. I am fond of short games like Dear Ester, or To the Moon as long as they are thoughtful, rich and interesting. Corpse of Discovery isn't anything like that, however. The dialog is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far pretty cool. Story seems interesting. Affordable game, and interesting take. It can be a little grindy with objective after objective. But the atmosphere makes up for it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, if you're a PARENT, I would more than encourage the purchase of Corpse Of Discovery...but be cautioned that you'll have some considerable swelling in your soul. Dude, I just finished. Wow. H.E.A.V.Y. I mean, wow........... I think I need to go for a walk. Rethink some things. Seriously. I'm the demographic for this game, so, the funny writing, and great story/theme kept my momentum going. Gameplay elements are a little hidden, in a good way, because you're always chasing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Corpse of Discovery is a cool exploration game with an eerie atmosphere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd2VF7EE_CI There isn't much in terms of gameplay and interactivety. However, the worlds are very interesting to look at and explore. There are moments in the game where I felt a deep sense of danger and actual fear, which is rare for me. There isn't much of a story, but there is a lot of atmosphere building. The way your companion talks to you, and some of the "glitches" you find around…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow. That was very good. Moving, really. And sad. Or happy? I don't know... For me, it was sad. Definitely recommended, particularly if you are a parent. I can only assume the 'mixed' rating has more to do with the audience than anything wrong with the game itself. I took it as a story about regret. That some things in life you never get back. Anyway, definitely a very good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game lacked any real character development or plot. It was an extremely short game. It took me 2 hours and that's AFTER doing my own exploring. Honestly, not worth the $13 I paid....pretty sure they delete these reviews anyway. I appreciate the decent graphics and voice acting, but I feel very cheated. Like this was MADE to keep you in just over the refund time limit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What in the actual fu*k? For some reason I kinda liked the 'platforming'. And I guess, I did finish the game. Interesting experience. Otherwise it's walking/jumping simulator. Doesn't look half bad. However it's buggy mess, most annoying was reseting to default mouse sensitivity every now and then, sometimes as soon as you used jetpack, bad gamie, bad gamie... If it's under 3E, and you like walking simulators, get it, otherwise, meh...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very confusing. At times it feels like it wants to be a campy sci-fi film from the 1970s, especially with how the game begins. But then it gets all serious, and then gets campy, and then it ends, and you think, "that's it?" The gameplay is tedious and repetitive. One thing the game does have going for itself is good visual and audio design. The game is poorly optimized though. I couldn't achieve 60 FPS and I'm playing on a GTX 980; a system that can run Witcher 3 at ultra…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good and even Great in certain regards, but also fairly Broken and Shambling in others. Walking sim? More like somewhat-plodding, not fully-rendered platformer sim with some great writing and voice-acting and some cool surreal spaceman vibes reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which probably would have had a better initial reception if not for No Man’s Sky and Astroneer releasing shortly after it. Corpse of Discovery’s main gameplay loop involves waking up in a small spacestation,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Achieves the impossible in making most of a 3hr game feel like filler. Incoherent story and sluggish movement mean that isolated well-executed vignettes (sarcastic AVA and planet of the pillars) can't save this walking simulator. Feels wrong not to mention the horrific, game-breaking pop-in: platforming segments and even general exploration are almost impossible when you cannot see the ground around you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I waited and played, waited and played further. But there was no deeper meaning. This story is laughably shallow. And this game is surely not more worth than 5 /euro/dollar etc. I paid to much for it. This game is not more than a ambitious high school project.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a sweet little story, with the emphasis on little, if you are familiar with 3D platform jumping, you can finish this game in about 5 game hours. Was a nice experience though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I felt like playing one of my regular go-to games, but was going to start this little game first to quickly see what it was like before resuming business as usual. But I totally underestimated how “Corpse of Discovery” would pull me in. I kept going for six and a half hours straight until it was done. It turned out to be a truly remarkable exploration of, not just the alien landscapes on the screen, but also the meaning of life, what it means to be human and to be alive. It ponders our…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game and I liked it. Don't think I catch the deeper meaning of it if it is one but I rarely do anyway. For me it's just another pseudo philosophical walking sim. What was my first impression and what I instantly liked in this game is the "Moon" vibes (the 2009 movie with Sam Rockwell). I thought I was cloned and that's why I'm ending up on a different planet every time or at least in a different time. And that explains why the only thing I didn't really like is ending. Seems…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Corpse of Discovery is a pretty weird but unique title, you will start each day with a main objective, normally to explore a vast unknown world but something seems off as the dialogue comes across that things keep happening around you, how'd you get there, what is the real aim and where are things going. The game looks visually stunning, from what seems like the vast lands of Mars to an exotic and colourful world to explore but dangers around every corner. Your character is after the truth,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its your classic sci fi scenario of man stuck on a sole planet with some AI and a questionable sanity and memory. The game is pretty neat and has a great interior environment and also some really cool exterior ones too. I get elements of the film Moon, 2001 and other sci fi stories and some of the worlds reminds me of what No Mans Sky looks like. The only downside and what really killed the experience for me was its optimization which is terrible. I was barely able to keep 30 frames with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game about being away from your family for work. A parallel commentary from the in game character and the Game Designer. (One of the Game Designer's family plays the family of the protagonist in game) I beat the game in right about 5 hours. No crashes or glitches. My wife watched me play and she and I both really felt the emotional impact moments from the game. I thought there were spots for some achievements, but maybe not many. The game starts out as a straightforward mystery, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a thing where concepts of Interstellar ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstellar_(film) ) and Moon ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_(film) ) meet. Except for the finding out what the hell happens there, there's only one typical activity: wandering through various terrains trying not to be causght by the huge radioactive alien thing. Absolute lack of scary moments (the screen just fades to black when things get really fubar). From what I've figured as early as 2nd chapter…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very badly optimized walking simulator with a memory leak that causes crashes, sounds jumping in and out of existence and jittery and stuttering FPS. World loads in as blocks in front of you, you can see things pop into existence as you get closer. Sound is badly balanced, FX audio is very loud whilst dialogue audio is very low in comparison with no sliders to fix it, and it doesn't help that the subtitles are not very visible against most surfaces. The story is supposed to be metaphor for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Corpse of Discovery is a big idea sporting the trappings of a little game – though a great concept with loads of philosophical waxings, the game mechanics and aesthetics just don’t match the heady, cerebral premise and subject matter. This title had some serious potential – what doesn’t sound intriguing about surviving on and exploring alien planets due to a corporate space exploration bungle, piecing together the mystery as to what happened and how to return to Earth along the way? Instead,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never thought i would enjoy a walking simulator. Now half/half. A story driven game, sometimes feels like ground hog day the sci fi edition. I got to the end hopeing for some slightly meaningful wrap-up of some great story concepts. Why am I here? Why do I keep dying? Why is the world always changing? Only to receive serveral in-game-sermons on how I should be using my time better with my family and work less. I mean the developer probably has a point there, could we not all use our time…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand how this game is rated so poorly. Maybe it just resonated with me harder than others, but man was that a heavy story... The ending was amazing and completely changed my views on what was going on, but the very end left me a bit confused. The only downside I can say is that the game suffers some performance issues at times. I noticed it got especially bad on the very last planet. I'm not sure if it was the rendering of all the grass or what. Either way, I was able to get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a 3 hour first person walking sim with some parkour set on a planet in space. You have to follow instructions to slowly uncover your fate and that of your family. The indoor station setting reminded me of Tacoma with that constant 2001:Space Odysse vibe. Once you get outside to discover the planet with your trusted robot AVA, the game reminded me of No Man's Sky. Movement is really good and exceptionally great with vertical parkour. Each day you start in your station, get your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final thoughts: intriguing! As per the trailer, there's commentary on family life in the context of this very distant line of work. Without getting into specific spoilers, there's a pretty solid analogy being made in this narrative that hit home with me. It's not subtle, which is... perhaps just the roughness of a quick indie-type dev cycle (even if this isn't really an indie title). That doesn't bother me much. It lacks polish, but the core of the thing works. It's surreal narrative arc with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game's main point seems to be about wasting time spent on careers when you could be doing other stuff and how that can destroy your life. Well, if this game is the other stuff, maybe burn your time on your career instead. I played it for about 2.8 hours before it crashed on me the second time, and I don't think I'll be going back to experience the ending.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Elementary school level story with Stetson-Harrison plot devices and contrived character building. -Bad performance. -Scripting bugs with interactive elements, and mouse behaviour. -The game was about twice as long as it should've been, it felt jarring. +The exploration and jetpacking were somewhat enjoyable. +Some of the writing was great. +Kids' drawings.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd call it a narrative experiment that takes inspirations by recent science-fiction movies like "Moon" or "Interstellar" with a more passive "walking simulator" approach with a good amount of platforming in the mix when moving around. I loved what it tries story wise even if it in my opinion lacks a good amount of polish which I think stems from the small team that really tried to get a lot in. But that is also one of the main problems I had with the game: it could have been half as long.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game that starts strong but ends weakly, a shame since is had such promise. The story lays out a lot of possible threads but never follows up on most. There is also a religious versus scientific thread that comes off as more lecture than debate, as if it was included just to expound on the writer's views. Side objectives are meant to expand on the story but most give you information already heard through the messages from home. No steam achievements makes finding them completely not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I highly recomend this game, never have I been so emotionally driven by a game and this one sure will pull the feels, overall I enjoyed the fantastic worlds and the emotional pull the game pushes you through, again, loved this one and would highly recomend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A walking game similar to Dear Esther, where you explore an environment while being presented with a story. The story is anvilicious and heavy-handed, but you may not get to it anyways; as of 2015, there's a horrific memory leak in the game (to the tune of ~100KB per second), and even strong PCs will drop to <15fps after a few minutes of playing. The only way to actually make progress in the game without headaches is to exit and restart the game after every checkpoint.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it wuld be awesome if the price can be lowered... i mean .. i had only 3 hs of complete gameplay , i loved the concept, i inmerged completely in to the game , and the finall moments of it made me very emotional ...lol ...9/10 because the price its no worth for a 3 h game ... :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Игра получилась интересная! Похожа чем то на Lifeless Planet. Радуют все новые миры. Музыка в игре порадовала. Минус в том, что игра периодически "лагает"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After contemplating this game, I would lean towards giving it a thumbs up. There are several negatives that kind of ruin the gameplay for me; however, there are positives to it as well. Here are some cons that almost got me to quit playing. There were a lot of clipping issues. Countless number of areas have you going through walls and even through the ground. The second world was brutal. There were too many pitfalls and many of them are hard to see due to overgrown plants. Since there…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great! would have worth a vr version!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do recommend the game, but only to people who like existential games, walking simulators, and slow game pace. Not so bad, it had both pros and cons. The story is nice and makes you wonder about possible futures of human race, space/time travel and humanity/human nature, but the game itself... it was a bit awkward, not very much stuff that you can do other than jetpacking form place to place and listening to AVA blab in your ears. I also thought that black flying figures were way too many,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tries to be gorgeous, deep, and surreal; add in some lame repeticious platforming and it comes out with a 'Meh'. Most of the philosophical themes have been done before, and much better. Technical issues, and an almost complete lack of innovation and interactivity turn a good concept into a very forgettable experience. If you're hoping for 'Dear Esther' in space, this isn't it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quite clever No Man's Sky parody, that somehow was released a year before.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm honestly surprised I didn't like this game. I usually have the patience for so called "walking simulators" and usually enjoy just exploring. The problem with this one is that it teases you with the possibility of a purpose but then...the purpose is pretty boring and quite repetitive. Meanwhile, the great mystery of it all unraveled so slowly I no longer cared what it was by the second level, at which point I was just annoyed by the fact that I couldn't really see where I was going over the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an interesting walking sim with some platforming elements. The game intially grabs the player quite well thanks to its Groundhog's Day/All You Need is Kill vibe that it starts out with, and its rather depressing narrative keeps the player at least somewhat interested as to what exactly is going on with the player character. Sadly the game lacks innovation in its own mechanics, and the narrative, although interesting, isn't really directly present until the last two sections of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an absolutely amazing game. Gameplay is challenging but not difficult, and does not detract from the real focus of the game - the storyline. It is a surprisingly philosophical game, in a scope large enough that it is difficult for me to describe it. Simply, no matter where you're coming from, it makes you think about life in a different, clearer way. This is an incredibly meaningful game, and I have to say I'd recommend it for everyone, but most of all people who are starting out into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got Corpse of Discovery for next to nothing in the sale. I got it because I thought it looked cool and I wanted to play something a little bit more cerebral and contemplative. But, boy, I wasn't prepared for this. Maybe it's because of my own situation in life, but this game resonated with me in a way that only very few games have. It's a wonderful literary experience, accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack, a very distinct art style and a writing that has its own personality, much like games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This started as a great little game to play while absolely drunk. Ended with a familiar to me emotian rollercoasterride. Great little title i would recomend for everyone enjoying a good story (while optionaly being drunk).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to try to cover objective (or at least semi-objective) aspects of this game, without delving into spoilers. Positives: Good look and aesthetics all around. Interesting and compelling story. Very good writing. Thought provoking and even entertaining at times. Good voice over for AVA. Very portal-esque. Interesting variety of environments. Negatives: Poor optimization. Frequent frame drops. Frequent clipping and misplaced textures. Few actually game mechanics, but some.…
