It sounds like a way to punish people so they don't dare to state their opinion truthfully - makes you question the Very Positive score, doesn't it? See the comment by Trademark2 [url=https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198132694444/recommended/722060/]on this review: But i do agree the devs should have done more for the micromanagement, and i actually told…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just get Dominions 5 if this game looks interesting. This game is nothing but whack-a-mole trying to keep your locations from being taken over by independent enemies. I'm always too busy just trying to keep my current locations from being overrun that I can hardly ever expand. Do not play this game, it is so close to being a good game that you will waste far too much time on it before giving up. Even a small band of wandering bandits can easily cost you units that it takes a town 10 turns to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR Do NOT buy at sticker, if you want it, on sale pay at most 5 or 10$ it is somewhat worth that. Full This is not remotely worth the current asking price of 25$ (US). However it might be an acceptable game for maybe 5 or 10$, if you can wait for a sale. The series isn't terrible but, despite being on it's 5th iteration now, this game still lacks compared to classics like Master of Magic, Age of Wonders, Heroes of Might and Magic, many of which were made decades before and have been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dev made Conquest of Elysium 5 instead of finishing Conquest of Elysium 4. If you have not bought 4 already, then buying 4 is a Dodo bird move, buy 5 instead, maybe. I played much more CoE3 than I did CoE4, the save system was bad, the ui was bad, the bugs weren't so bad but I still couldn't do more than 20 hrs in CoE4. I doubt I'll buy CoE5, seems the dev just keeps adding a few more races and a little content instead of making any improvements to the game itself. Pity, i did initially…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of Dominion fan-boys will probably piss on this review. Yet, it is the honest opinion of a strategy and RPG fan. The game feels like a non-optimized poorly executed student project that has ripped off all assets of the Dominions series, and despite all this, the game is enjoyable. There is so much wrong with this game, the balance, the RPG progression elements, the AI, and the user friendliness of the game. Balance: • Barbarian start with large army of weak troops. Perfect for fighting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, Conquest of Elysium 4 is the next iteration of the past CoE games; more content, and with nearly the same (pixel art) graphics that were used in Civilization 2. People often speak of this game having depth. This is true, but what the game really excels at is it's breadth, not its depth. It has an enormous number of units, spells, items, summons, events... and even worlds. Each individual faction has a decent bit of depth, as in most cases you slowly but steadily build up or tech up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games I have ever played. It is sooo easy to come back to over and over. TONS of replay value and diversity in the classes. One of my all time favorite games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've spent more time playing this game then any other. It's got all the fantasy strategy game elements that you love, but with the simplicity of early era games that makes it almost infinitely re-playable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look at the number of hours people have played this game. This is a really, really good game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3.6/5 (0-5 scale) If you would like this type of game, this is a good game. It's hard to know how to rate this game or even this game type. it is olde style. The graphics are unimpressive in 2019. The AI is horrid. The number of varieties and ways in which the teams are different is top of field (yes actually top). This indie dev knows how to write a game, has ideas about what he/they want and implements cool ♥♥♥♥ I love playing. Conquest of Elysium has been evolving, but it lacks some very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played a Demonologist who can summon his troops from the depths of hell. Had some early success, and decided I was ready for a mass summons, and they decided they didn't want to work for me (demons being fickle like that.) They killed my army and my lord and I end up losing. Decided to run a Demonologist again swearing to take my revenge. This time I was careful and eventually summoned a great army, and eventually summoned all 7 of their greater demons. I then took over their entire…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent genre straddling addition to a solid series of games. A cross of role-play, 4x, roguelike-like gameplay. A lack of tutorial or context can mean that there is an initial very steep learning curve through this feels thematically in keeping with the world the developers have tried to build. The game's mechanics are relatively simple to pick up though devilishly difficult to master and the use of electronic dice mechanics give the game a very old-school table top feel. Whilst the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This negative review is another casualty of there not being a neutral option. I love Dominions. I played 4 and 5. I picked this up on sale when they announced that CoE 5 was coming. This is not Dominions. That is obvious but still worth saying. It lacks lots of little quality of life things that it should have. The only way to exit the game is to quit. Meaning that if you still want to play, just not this game because things have gone poorly or you don't like the way a race plays, you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Conquest of Elysium 4 is a great game to play when you don't have internet or a mouse, perfect when you have a laptop and on a long train or plane ride. The game can be treated like an adventure, set on discovering new tiles and monsters with their own lore. The game lacks a lot of elements that make it competitive, like being largely luck-based and having unbalanced classes, but there are ways to strategize and make efficient plays that can provide the player some advantage in multiplayer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had this game and CoE3 in my library for many years, but I used to dismiss this as 'Dominions-lite' so why bother playing it if you already have Dominions, right? After seeing it popping up a couple of times I decided to give it another spin and this time it finally hooked me. It's a 4x game with an emphasis on exploration and discovery. It feels more like an roguelike RPG sometimes than a strategy game. All the factions/classes play differently, and the world is randomly generated. Don't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cluncky, ugly, and at times inscrutable game to play. Yet it is still a compelling and surprisingly experience at a reasonable price. The perfect lunch-break strategy game and a game you will play for years. P.S. Especial commendation to the devs for supporting it years after it's original release!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mindblowing depth since Conquest of E.2. Here's my latest adventure: I started a necromancer. I became a master of my art, converting into an inmortal lich. I thought this was the last step but wait, there's more! A Greater Lich ritual, which took me a step ahead and let me forgo my body altogether to travel between planes as an invulnerable machine-gun-casting pile of bones. All the while a tartarian spirit with the ability to meld with rock had a strange option: to travel downard (??). So…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an amazing game. At first the game feels rough around the edges, but once you begin to look deeper you can see the true beauty of it. It straddles the line between depth and complexity. It is very deep, but not too complex. The game mechanics are relatively simple, and you can see how spells and weapons work, without too much trouble. Just be careful of ethereal units, because they are hard to attack with weapons! The fun in this game is a slow burn, and deeply satisfying. Recommended…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a bad game, but I found it pretty frustrating. I feel like I have to compare it with the Dominions series by the same developer. It seems like the general goal with this game was to take Dominions and make it... simpler? More accessible maybe? Dominions content has been developed for such a long time that the wide choice of units, rituals and craftable items can be overwhelming, so it would be understandable. The problem with THIS game is that they've replaced all that wide strategic…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent turn-based strategy game that allows for quick play or long, in-depth sessions - simple mechanics but great depth, with extreme replayability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing CoE through versions 3 and 4, for probably 7ish years in total. I've always used it as a lightweight game I can play on work laptops on business trips with smaller maps. I usually start up a game of Dominions if i have a while to play. That said, I now realize that I have not given this game the credit it deserves. Recently, I have really dug into it and omg this game has some depth to it. I realize now that I had just scratched the surface of the game without exploring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Conquest of Elysium is a fantasy turn-based strategy game. You can become one of a multitude of players, from a Baron to Witch, Warlock or Necromancer to name just a few. You can be multiple factions and make them on the same team to fight your enemies. The graphics are very good and the abilities of the various factions are sometimes amazing. You can play against seven other players and you can include AI players also. This is my first Steam game and I enjoy the game and love the platform.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cool game, a mix of turn based strat and RPGs with good writing. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game where you can break the seven seals and bring about the apocalypse. Not as an ends in itself but as a step in a plan. A plan to destroy everyone else. I mean how could they survive the apocalypse. Unless, they already went through a portal to the elemental planes. In which case.... Well at least the pope is elected for life... However much longer that is now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a strategy/4x game (though it could be) - It is a roguelike - you live and die by RNG. All they need to do is allow me to turn off the "events" and it would be in my top 5 pretty easily. I was having soo much fun: xploring, xpanding, xploiting....and then out of nowhere comes this stack of inferno and wipes my biggest army like they were swatting a fly. Some guys seem to like being abused and punished for no reason, I don't know why, but I do not. Hey, It takes all kinds of guys, I just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So simple, yet so complex. A great turn based strategy game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Conquer and enslave a lot of cities to get 600 sacrifices to your bloody gods so they can manifest in Elysium to defend your cities from the infernal legions. If you use AoE magic then expect friendly fire. This game is a fun 4X, explore to see if you are lucky (some times bad starts = dead) expand and exploit depending on what class you are playing and exterminate the other players + forces of the void/ inferno. There are a lot of units, rituals and lore. It's very well written. As always…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. It's got a lot of depth and content, and has a certain old-school-RPG feel that I love. That being said, there are some easily fixable UI issues that drive me insane: Left click to move / Right click to select feels backwards and is the opposite of AoE/Civ/etc. There should at least be an option to swap these. I get that some Mac users only have a left click but most gamers have both. There's no autosave (this is probably my biggest gripe). If you go to manually save and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Takes a minute to learn, but fun turn-based strategy with cool fantasy elements
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can't wrap your head around Dominions 4/5 like me (...me dumb-dumb), then this (& it's successor CoE5) is the game for you. Not even gonna get into the factions and unique strategies & gameplay of each. Don't feel scared though. All the factions are balanced enough & the Illwinter Devs are on point & always keep on updates for years. Thank You Illwinter Game Design Sincerely, This guy writing this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Along with Dwarf Fortess, Illwinter Games stand as the ultimate function-over-form brand of entertainment. So many mechanics and moving parts, so many different strategies and experiences to be had. While DF is the like Silmarillion and Dominions may be likened to The Lord of the Rings, this game is like The Hobbit: shorter and sweeter, less complex but still packed with flavor. The graphics are simplistic (the game was programmed by one person using SDL, with the art and lore by another),…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ultra bizzare game, full of minor flaws. Includes RnG and the godawful graphics (did I mention the UI?) However, it is... addicting, if you can bypass those. The content is huge, and once again, execution is awful, but everything just fits together satisfyingly. The only similar game out there is Heroes of Might and Magic, so I have to say this. I would suggest this game ONLY IF you like Heroes of Might and Magic games, enough to play a bootleg sequel with horrible horrible graphics. I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10. Passive wildlife mod for those who can't handle the insane deer stacks. Better homeland security mod for those who want a less stressful start. I've lost my life in this for a bit. Play vs. friends for maximal fun. On sale so grab now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Theres something different about this game that makes it so appealing. The vast combination of factions, units, spells coupled with incredible and minute detail ensures that you will remember the stories generated by a good game of COE4. That being said not every game you play will be memorable as there is a fair bit of RNG involved in both starting location and just about every other outcome. Your commanders and leaders can get taken out by stray arrows from a lowly archer. Your summons can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Originally posted by Hand's Hermit Permit: "Well I'm an addict with over 600 hours apparently. This game is a turn-based worldmap strategy conquering game. You pick from one of like 16(?) interesting classes and go around "liberating" resources from the bloodthirsty wildlife and killing the enemy factions. One of the big draws is the sheer number and variety of units running around, and the 5 mysterious planes of existence that sometimes come into play depending on what events happen, where you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely lazy at a ridiculous price. Lacks such basic features as "quit to menu" and "load game" from within a game. Gameplay is just tedious as all hell, with never-ending enemy units spawning and constantly taking resource sites from you. You'll spend more time chasing deer who keep conquering your towns than you will doing anything else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a well-implemented hybrid of 4x and roguelike elements, with a wide variety of significantly different factions and a great deal more depth than a first impression might suggest. Other games could stand to learn from how CoE4 creates strategic decisions. Building a doomstack-- often a dominant strategy in similar games-- can cost you your territory, and thus your economy, and thus the game when up against a more nimble, divided force. Those same divided forces, though, risk…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This little gem of a game has grown to become one of my favorite games of all time. While it is EXTREMELY unforgiving at times, the game is meant to be played with the expectation of imminent death at the hands of a terrible monster at any moment. This game will make you feel like the King of the World and tear you down the following turn. So much fun both alone and with friends, make sure to experiment with the settings and era that best suits you or the kind of game you want to play. While…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You cannot zoom in on the battle map. It's hard to recognize units unless I glue my eyes to the screen. Unacceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you aren't too passionate about graphics this right here is a masta piece most individuals would compare the gameplay to something like civ but the key difference is that this game feels entertaining and whimsical instead of like a chore from satan
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i was a little turned off at first looking at the "play now" videos on youtube. It wasnt the graphics but the seemingly big scope of the game. fortunately i bit the bullet and bought the game and have to say it is quite simple yet deep. Tons of races and abilities and the game helped me to learn how to play dominions which is a bit more complicated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm playing CoE4 and having a hoot with it. I just keep finding new and unusual events, creatures and geography. All the games in the series create a rich narrative. Can't stop playing... and seeing in game events, units and places I haven't seen before. The hits keep on coming! Edit note - older review with about half the hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game, most games that i reach 80+ hours in its because of idleing, but i think ive actually spent every minute playing and I could do it 2 times over without getting bored. If your thinking of getting it, get it! way better then Conquest 3.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am really enjoying this game a lot. After countless lost games I finally got the hang of it and won my first play through using the High Priestess class!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game rewards cautious expansion and resource generation. There is RNG but tactics are specific for each class. Some are more smash and go, others are standoffish and magic based. A big difference between CoE4 and other 4x map conquer games is that castles only benefit you to a point. A melee heavy army will do badly bottleneck defending a castle. Sort of makes sense when your front line is narrow. I like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Conqest of Elisium is a game similar to HoMM or Dirciples, where you have few heroes who can hire armies in castles and capture villages, mines, etc. There are many playable factions, each with its own unique game style. Many heroes have acess to both in-combat magic and overland rituals, significantly contributing towards your war efforts. You will have to fight off neutral critters contantly threatening to capture your holdings - from bandits to snakes and agressive killer deers. And of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's good and fun with a kind of cult following. We love the pixel art graphics, and the music is awesome! Join us! 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Deceptively simple looking and well worth your time if you like TBS games with a focus on the macro rather than the micro. The huge variety of units is fantastic!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While i want to like this game i don't think i can recommend it. For a start it's very pricey for what you get; £20, for what feels like a £10 game. But lets treat it as something that is normally priced at £20; not a large game but not an indie one either. Pros 1) You can see what you're attacking. Sounds like a minor thing, and it should be, but in Dominions 5 (a £30 game) once you find the enemy you can't really see their units. Instead you only get a description of "10 Units mostly Light…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →CoE4 is an improved version of 3 which I reviewed a few more excellent factions added plus combat detail I still love coming back to play it This is one of my favourite games, I would value it at $60+ so it is an absolute bargain. All 17, yes 17, factions play in their own unique way and I have had fun playing every faction. This game is a must if your a Civilization fan or enjoy turn based strategy games in general. I found it very helpful to watch some lets plays on youtube by Das24680 I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game with great depth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good idea but with so many flaws that I cannot recommend it. The main problem is your troops behavior in combat: - your mage chooses a random spell and then a random target. area effect spells are placed that bad that they don't target even half the enemies they could. Even if a mage knows a spell that would win the battle immediately if cast, it is completely random whether the spell is chosen or not. - warriors often stupidly move forward no matter whether there are enemies in front of them…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not for everyone. I read another comment which stated if you have dominions 5 you should get this one.. I was hoping for it to add more to the lore.. I already own dominions 5 and I feel this was a (more) buggy and even less polished iteration of that game.. Granted it's a few years before, so that would make sense.. However I felt it wasn't what I was looking for. Your results may vary.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple little game yet holds some complexities that make it engrossing. Be prepared to get mobbed because the AI doesn't mess around.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very amazing game. Highly recommend. Races all play quite differently leaving space for game after game after game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really love this game. Asynchronous factions! Simple to learn. Hard to master. Also some great mods which add even more faction features and terraforming! I think my hour count says a lot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like an Excel spreadsheet, but a blast to play. One of my all-time favorite games. The fifth game is out, making this one obsolete, so if you are interested, just grab that one. Some things you can do: -Overwhelm the enemy with a massive army of seemingly harmless woodland creatures -Summon GOD -Turn enemies into trees -Create a sun and scorch the map -Summon OP monsters that will kill half your army with friendly fire because they just do not give a fook Pros: -Many different factions…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unique type of game in between strategy genres. This one improves upon CoE 3 and i hear 5 improves upon this, but they are all great games and i recommend them all (3, 4, 5) to anyone who likes fantasy games and/or games like Civ, Nethack or other similar turn-based strategy which have a randomly generated map & experience each time you start a new game/map.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So much fun and the lore is excellent! There is a bit of a learning curve but once you get over that and the 2D graphics, you will find yourself in one of the most immersive 4x games ever! Looking forward to adding more hours into this.
