This is the lone game that survived the big purge of 3D Super NES games that took down FX Fighter, Star Fox 2, Comanche, et cetera, as Nintendo sought to differentiate the SNES and N64. Winter Gold looked really good! Fully polygonal terrain, pre-rendered characters.
unlabelledView post →Is including the Defiant in your game the same as including the Comanche in your game in the 90s? It's not quite the same programmatically, but I feel like in the spirit of "cool near future helicopter that ended up not happening" it fits.
unlabelledView post →Today's video is Comancheria. A super heavy weight solo game about the Comanche Empire. It's a fascinating and ambitious game, a historic sandbox that takes you from their start to the reservation act and the encroachment of the USA. Definitely different. youtu.be/NwgVTSOnm-g
unlabelledView post →I saw some stuff about a new Delta Force game. I have absolute no interest in play a new one but the old delta force games were cool af. They used voxel for terrain. Comanche did the same thing it was awesome.

Covered lots (looong career). 1990 - 92: "Working with" HR Giger (Dark Seed), and Syd Mead (CyberRace) 92 - 94: Comanche/voxels and the 1st VR games at Novalogic (92 - 94) ... 1/5 #gamedev #indiegames #solodev www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGEC...
unlabelledView post →Is this like that old Comanche game? It had some sort of 2d voxel thing going with a displacement map for terrain (and really nice looking water including reflections), all running on a piece of crap (even at the time) 386sx at 16mhz
unlabelledView post →I'm running a game atm in 5e using a tweaked version of the gun-fighting rules, and by those rules basic enemies with firearms are extremely dangerous. It's fascinating how much it has driven game choices. They were more scared of a band of Comanche than various supernatural evils.
unlabelledView post →Comanche game where you do this but also don't mess with the Adelsverein bc y'all made a treaty and they actually kept it
unlabelledView post →I would be dead from exhaustion had it not been for the block function. I don't owe every troll out there my time. Hell, I don't even owe education to people outside the Comanche Nation. I engage when I can and when the other party is clearly interested in something other than some arcane game.

unlabelledView post →That’s why it appears so often in popular media. Beyond the Comanche game series, it’s featured in movies like Hulk or strategy games like C&C Generals and Tom Clancy’s EndWar. In fact, it was in Tom Clancy’s Debt of Honor novel that I first fell in love with it. (11/17)
unlabelledView post →X-Wing comes to mind, which itself was built from... "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" I believe? I'm not checking right now, but I think they were building it off that game. Then they kept going... Other games existed, I played a few. (Not many, but a few. Like "Comanche" and "Wing Commander IV".)

unlabelledView post →it's most like parallax but it's not a per fragment operation. if you look up the DOS game 'Comanche', they use a similar period technique. it's sometimes called a 'heightmap raycaster' or 'voxel terrain' but it's not voxels. (this looks like but is actually not the same technique as the walls).
unlabelledView post →Watching the game in replay (I hate ads) & with the Eagles up in the 4th, I thought there was no chance I'd hear that offensive KC chant. I was wrong. Click. OFF went the game. Native peoples aren't fucking mascots. Find a song, KC, & change your goddamn logo. My dead Comanche ancestors insist.
unlabelledView post →Karl May was extremely popular in CEE, and I read most of his books as a child. They had a very specific anti-Comanche narrative, so a small me would be horrified that big me is taking their side in a game.

unlabelledView post →Comanche: Maximum Overkill. we had to buy 2 MB of RAM so that our PC could run it, but the voxel terrain was incredible. so unlike anything most other video game maps because of the use of 3D pixels. and it made me wonder who was in all the tanks i was blowing up, an instinct that served me well.
unlabelledView post →X11 imitating Comanche render. It’s a custom game engine. The core renderer/game logic is written in C, with Xlib used for the Linux window/input path and a software raycaster/raytracer-style renderer. Some newer GPU attempts use SDL2/OpenGL, but it’s not made in Unity, Godot, Unreal, or anything.

I've purchased more sets of dice to make the game go faster. Created by an Indigenous team (Cherokee, Comanche/ Apache). sweetgrasstradingco.com/product/naasii
unlabelledView post →It's got to be Test Drive II: The Duel for me. I cannot tell you how many hours I spent playing that game even after III came out. That, Comanche Maximum Overkill, and F15 Strike Eagle II. They all had easy learning curves for complex games.
unlabelledView post →Oh, I loved this game so much! I really miss when voxels were actually voxels instead of just "We made everything with little cubes." The terrain in this (and the Comanche games of the time) had a really yummy feel to it.
unlabelledView post →I don't have my Atari catalogue in front of me to try and remember what it was we were playing back then. I want to say "Comanche", but I think that was an MS-DOS game. The oldest game I can definitely remember is either World of Xeen or Sim City.
unlabelledView post →Comanche 2 from Novalogic, also a chopper game!👀
unlabelledView post →I remember this game. Loved it! A couple of years later there was Comanche, which got a lot of attention as I remember due to fancy terrain graphics. These were among the games which convinced me to sell my Atari ST and jump to PC. Well, these and X-Wing.

unlabelledView post →I'd say : 1/ Claremont. Thanks to his X-Men. 2/ Bendis. Thanks to his New Avengers. 3/ Alan Moore. A game-changer with V for Vendetta, Watchmen, etc. 4/ Greg. A french author co-creator of Comanche with Hermann. 5/ Charlier. Another french, co-creator of Blueberry with Giraud (aka Moebius).
unlabelledView post →Isn't it? I like the Defender helicopter's look myself, and I love both the 2D and 3D EGA MicroProse did myself! Some of the other dashboards in the game. I like the RAH-66 Comanche one best, with the pair of CRT screens, mixed with classic 1980s-era tech.
unlabelledView post →There was absolutely nothing sexy in this game other than you could fly a Comanche attack helicopter and the soundtrack was entirely classical music like Beethoven's 7th symphony (which ruled when it would slowly fade in while you're popping APCs in said Comanche)
unlabelledView post →Just found out about a cool looking rendering method from an old game called Comanche Maximum Overkill and I really need to play around with this
unlabelledView post →i’m going through what notes he wrote about her - this was a human Cavalier for a Pathfinder game (setting is alt. Americas). he used the Lakota, Comanche, and Nez Perce as references for the culture. Eyota (the character) is part of a noble house that protects farmlands/ranches/blacksmiths/etc

unlabelledView post →2/4 The 100-footers battle was legendary. Comanche, LawConnect, and SHK Scallywag were locked in a tactical cat-and-mouse game all day, with Lucky trailing by just a mile. The four maxis remained within sight of each other for most of the race. ⚔️🌊
unlabelledView post →So like, half the game is this detective story, no combat, just dialog trees and searching for clues, and the other half, you play a guy dressed like a cowboy, with a set of guns from the 1890s named Apache and Comanche as he fights off a bunch dudes who look like elvis.
unlabelledView post →War Thunder is adding the RAH-66 Comanche? Hhhhhhhh, no please don't drag me back to that game :(
unlabelledView post →very funny that Broken Arrow - a real-time tactical game with up-to-date modern Russian and American units - also has the odd mythical unit like the RAH-66 Comanche Stealth Helicopter, The T-14 Armata. that one Stealth Blackhawk helicopter, and the M10 Booker (rip)
unlabelledView post →***Choctaw!! Geesh. I follow a Comanche tribe member's work and the 'C' got me twisted up in the game, ha! Choctaw tribe members are represented in the film.
unlabelledView post →Native representation in games. Some stats dated, but when Native characters do appear in media, often setting is in the past. NES game, Gunsmoke. Gameplay is repetitive killing of enemy Natives. Instruction manual calls them "punk Indians." No elements of actual Comanche culture.

Comanchería: The Rise and Fall of the Comanche Empire is not as complicated as a truly complicated war game but it feels like a step up from say Cuba Libre, the other GMT game I’ve played.
