Cocktail
After being discharged from the Army, Brian Flanagan moves back to Queens and takes a job in a bar run by Doug Coughlin, who teaches Brian the fine art of bar-tending. Brian quickly becomes a patron favorite with his flashy drink-mixing style, and Brian adopts his mentor's cynical philosophy on life and goes for the money. From TMDB

neutral · AI labelView post →by my accounting Tom Cruise has bankrupted at least 3 bars in the first 1/3 of the film Cocktail
neutral · AI labelView post →I've never seen any of those. I shied away from Sabrina since it's a remake of a movie I like but I like who's in it so I should watch. I also need to see Cocktail. Xanadu is way too "fantasy" for me despite Gene Kelly. If I need my latter day Gene fix, it's Viva Knievel.
neutral · AI labelView post →I’m watching Cocktail for the first time ever and this movie is so much better than I anticipated
positive · AI labelView post →Also every time i see a group of ducks and think, "Cocktail party." why was that movie so good
positive · AI labelView post →If you have never watched the movie “Cocktail” give it a watch. Like “Say Anything” (and “Valley Girl” and, I’m told, “About Last Night” and so many others from that era), it held up a vision of courting that sent men of that era down a real fucking dumb path.
negative · AI labelView post →To be honest I’m not sure I know that from watching the movie. I think I know it from just being a “Cocktail nerd.”
neutral · AI labelView post →For @omacolt.bsky.social and the #OctoberMovieChallenge #Moviesky #Filmsky #TVsky Day 5: running a great distance ... Tom Cruise in most of his movies... including Cocktail (as reviewed here) weegiemidget.wordpress.com/on-films-and...
neutral · AI labelView post →The ENERGY! ⚡⚡ I'm reminded of Bonnie in the movie Cocktail, getting the morning fired off with a bang 💥 😆
neutral · AI labelView post →I saw the trailer for Cocktail about 500 times. I will always associate that "Hippy Hippy Shake" song with a film I've never seen.
neutral · AI labelView post →Cocktail was his last good movie, dammit! 😀
positive · AI labelView post →Unfortunately that Mike Love turd of a song was a real Beach Boys song put on their album. It was put on the Cocktail soundtrack but suprisingly that drivel wasn't made for the film.
neutral · AI labelView post →I remember I paid for a sham "Bartending School" and one of the sessions they just showed us Cocktail, the entire film, not just the bartender flair scenes.
neutral · AI labelView post →Wait, to be clear, you think Cocktail is a good movie? I finally caught it on late night TV a few years ago and laughed at how awful it was. Did Brian Brown utter anything that wasn't some drinking/hard living/drinking cliche? It was Top Gun in a bar/Maverick as a bartender.
negative · AI labelView post →It's Friday night! What are you having with your movie this evening? @filmhistorynetwork has your libations ready to go, served up by @matthewcharleshall #cocktaillover #happyhour #martinishot #movies #cocktail
neutral · AI labelView post →Watched Cocktail last night to get in the right mind frame for Digger this week. The mind frame being “Boy, Tom Cruise sure can make a bad movie.”
negative · AI labelView post →“Gin and Regret” would be an excellent update of the bar “Cocktails and Dreams” if there was a 2020s remake of the film Cocktail.
neutral · AI labelView post →I haven't watched a Tom Cruise film since Cocktail and I never will I'll take this grudge with me to the grave
negative · AI labelView post →I was a fan of the soundtrack growing up. The film itself I've largely memory holed outside of the final sequence (same deal with Cocktail, strangely enough).
neutral · AI labelView post →When I finish this road trip and return to Brooklyn, I would be glad to do a thing about Cocktail on @blankcheck.bsky.social because, while Griffin and David have no love for the movie, I think my Brother In New Jersey Ben Hosley would agree with me that it is a very Jersey artifact.
positive · AI labelView post →Holy Private Joker! These films playing simultaneously in rooms of a small Brooklyn Apt! Flippd channels 2 Cocktail as it started amid garish interiors & scruffd street scenes of an 80s NYC film I'd nvr seen. I look out open doorway to see multitudes of grey comprising the "normal" hour of🧵s! WTF
neutral · AI labelView post →Denny, Cocktail, good or great movie?
neutral · AI labelView post →I never liked that movie on the basis that it didn’t have a cocktail bar. Everyone knows an evil spaceship needs a cocktail bar. That’s the metric I also use to determine if a movie is good. Now 1988’s movie ‘Cocktail’ on the other hand is a very good watch - it has cocktail bars.
positive · AI labelView post →The marketing for the film should have just said “Please watch this movie or else Tom’s gonna make Cocktail 2 and then beg McQuarrie to film MI:9 in space”
neutral · AI labelView post →@joewynne as ordered (I think that’s ginger, the closest sign in produce said jicama, it smells more like lemon fresh pledge, looked like the titular “Tingler” from THAT movie and half the price of the ones labeled organic so that’s what i got)? Either way i got plenty of Strongbow to chase it with during the film… this one might be a great candidate for making a quadruple of and milk-clarifying: #cocktail #monsterdrinks
neutral · AI labelView post →Unfortunately now I’m playing a new game: in which Tom Cruise movie would be most unexpected for his character to kil Hitler? I’m thinking Risky Business or Cocktail.

neutral · AI labelView post →Fun 80’s flick starts shallow, gets deeper Bent on financial success, a young ex-soldier (Tom Cruise) becomes an expert bartender in Manhattan while attending college in order to make it on Wall Street. Then a dream surfaces to establish a nightclub in Jamaica. Bryan Brown plays his cynical mentor while Elisabeth Shue and Lisa Banes are on hand as romantic interests. “Cocktail” (1988) is an entertaining Cruise-led 80’s flick that starts energetic, amusing and shallow but, thankfully, fleshes…
positive · AI labelView post →There was something about Tom Cruise in this film that shows him at his most engaging and fun. His character "Brian" wants to get on in life - but at every turn his limited of education gets in the way. Despondent, he heads to a bar where he encounters "Doug" (Bryan Brown) and next thing we know, he is a cocktail barman. A bit slow to start off with, but soon he has the clientele eating out of his hand as his charm and cheekiness soon show he has a real skill for this job. The first half hour…
