18 of 18 · most liked first2nd film of 2025: Jesse V Johnson's CHIEF OF STATION. OK Budapest locations (but key scenes take place in warehouses), capable actors in Aaron Eckhart, MAGIC MIKE's Alex Pettyfer & Olga Kurylenko. Twisty plot defies coherence, but not boring, per se. Adequate dumbassery.

The shot of its stars sitting in a deserted Gundel with the local server all but invisible is not even a metaphor but the literal mise-en-scène of the one-sided extraction of value by and for the film.

unlabelledView post →So yeah, if you want a ridiculously bad (in)Action movie with all the timing of an octogenarian pushed down a flight of stairs; Chief of Station is your movie.
unlabelledView post →I watching the movie Chief of Station. It is a cautionary story of why you should not allow 14 year old boys write a spy thriller that is anything but thrilling.
unlabelledView post →Because you are on a bad movie kick and I saw this was on your watchlist you should watch Chief of Station. I would say the acting and action is decent/good and script/directing is bad/subpar but fine overall and only 93 minutes. BUT the last line of the movie is baffling

unlabelledView post →Chief of Station is your by the numbers spy/action thriller, sandwiched between cheesy slices of US exceptionalism. There's nothing new, whatsoever, on offer here. This is a flick driven by exposition, with action that lacks a certain polish but is still superficially watchable. Acting is alright too, just don't expect any Oscars to be handed out. In summary, a basic formulaic US spy thriller that's mildly diverting and little else. Possibly a good one for a slow Sunday.
