unlabelledView post →had a real life meme moment as I was staring off into space while drinking my coffee. Wife: "What'cha thinking about?" Me, truthfully: Tom Hanks's performance in the 2007 film Charlie Wilson's War

unlabelledView post →I finally watched Charlie Wilson's War, like it a lot for what it was, but I'm fascinated by why a movie about the stinger missile only mentioned it 3 times. It's the entire narrative focus and the fact that an American missile was shooting down helicopters is purposely obscured. Product of 2007
unlabelledView post →Seb Gorka's dissertation at least had the unintentional whimsey of "venn like diagrams" (which I guess are diagrams with circles), his infamous figure 9, and the bare citation of Charlie Wilson's War The Movie.
unlabelledView post →Ok now that I've seen multiple people post the Charlie Wilson's War clip I have an excuse to share that the "It means more" lady from the SEC beach commercials is in this movie and her one big line is "You can teach 'em to type but you can't teach 'em to grow tits."
unlabelledView post →NYE Movie Suggestion: Charlie Wilson's War A drama based on a Texas congressman Charlie Wilson's covert dealings in Afghanistan, where his efforts to assist rebels in their war with the Orcs have some unforeseen and long-reaching effects. youtu.be/G1mnSjjeC2o
unlabelledView post →Watching Charlie Wilson's War and it's got the most ludicrous cast (inc. some pre-getting Big): Tom Hanks Julia Roberts Emily Blunt Amy Adams John Slattery Philip Seymour Hoffman Not bad. Good film of the type that doesn't get made any more.
unlabelledView post →now you've gotta do Charlie Wilson's War to continue the Bluesky lib movie clip canon
unlabelledView post →"Charlie Wilson's War" is a good movie. There is an important scene at the end of the film.
unlabelledView post →This is basically where the book Charlie Wilson's War ends up, with Wilson explaining that US imperialism would always have rebound affects eventually. That movie really did him a disservice
unlabelledView post →Tryna figure out why Letterboxd rated Charlie Wilson's War so badly. Is it because of the underlying assumption that "communism bad"? I mean, your alternate in this movie was islamists, so you'd think the leftists would be happy either way.

unlabelledView post →If Charlie Wilson's War had ended with a shot of 9/11 like it was originally supposed to, it would have been a generational film. Look at this gold!
unlabelledView post →Senator Charlie Wilson in Charlie Wilson's War. Tom made him look good and much nicer than he really was. Tom will never know how much that movie meant to me. Without it there would be no record of my work there. Covert Ops. He is simply the best of us. A Vets best friend and model American!
unlabelledView post →There will be a 'Charlie Wilson's War' style movie in about thirty years time!
unlabelledView post →This has been engineered by the religious freaks to insure that Armageddon outcome for decades. Just go back and watch that old movie Charlie Wilson's War. I seem to remember Julia Roberts stated this exact thing in the dinner scene. And THAT was just when the scenario made it to Hollywood !
unlabelledView post →This has been my entire life as an American. I recommend a movie called "Charlie Wilson's War." Someday, we'll be paid back for what's happened.
unlabelledView post →There's a short line of many beauts recounted in the film Charlie Wilson's War: "We fucked up the end game." That was about the war in Afghanistan in the 80s, but in the decades of learning and improvement since, it's now reached the pinnacle of: "We're so fucking shit, we fucked up the opening."
unlabelledView post →my favorite Hanks films are some mixture of A League of Their Own, Charlie Wilson's War, Volunteers, The Burbs, Bachelor Party, and That Thing You Do, and funny dirtbag Hanks is pretty much platonic ideal of a movie character.
unlabelledView post →Charlie Wilson's War He's not the MC, but it's a great film and he's fun in it

unlabelledView post →Charlie Wilson's War is a great movie, and I think every single American who has not seen it should watch it ASAP. Also RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman, what a loss to the acting world
unlabelledView post →Excellent account of America's wars on terrorism from the 1980s to present--by the guy depicted in the 2007 film, "Charlie Wilson's War" as the multiple chess game-playing CIA weapons expert (the chess part is fiction; but Vickers did play a key role in most of the most important U.S. CT efforts).

unlabelledView post →A great movie along same lines is 'Charlie Wilson's War', true events about US Rep. Wilson (R) who convinced Congress to give Afghans helicopters to defeat Russians; afterwards advocated for economic assistance, but was laughed off (no profit), then Taliban filled gap. Moral & Cheaper to help.
unlabelledView post →If anyone in the Trump Admin. had a brain in their head, they'd watch the film, "Charlie Wilson's War" to learn how abandoning Afghanistan played out, after we helped rout the Soviets. It provided the Taliban with the foothold they needed to dominate the population. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/w...
unlabelledView post →Charlie Wilson's War (2007): I was talking to a friend about how racist this movie is and they just sent me this screenshot in response
unlabelledView post →Found another movie that's really hard to find and not streamable many places Charlie Wilson's War (2007) Comedy Drama about the CIA funding the Afghan resistance against the Soviets in the 1980s (directly leading to the birth of the modern Taliban) I sense a pattern
unlabelledView post →I wonder if there's a scene in Stephen Miller's War similar to to one in the movie Charlie Wilson's War where they talk about taking the star of david off the crates of weapons?
unlabelledView post →Damn interesting, but sad, thread. Brought to mind the end of the movie Charlie Wilson's War. The Congressman was able to send Stingers to the Afghans to drive out the Soviets, but couldn't get funding for reconstruction. Another stupidly missed opportunity.
unlabelledView post →lol it's definitely not a comic movie. Hot Rod, Charlie Wilson's War, Airheads, Pulp Fiction and Stop Making Sense (a bit of a cheat because it's a concert doc, but it influenced me a lot when I was shooting music stuff)
unlabelledView post →The film Charlie Wilson's War sticks with me. After flowing millions of $ worth of weapons into Afghanistan to fight off Soviet invasion, Congress refused to pay to rebuild schools. Children had been orphaned by conflict and we didn't seem to wonder how they're gonna feel when they grow up.
unlabelledView post →I'm minded to think of Charlie Wilson's War - the book is long and incredibly detailed with lots of history, the film is the truncated key moments for your viewing pleasure, and if the visual medium brings more people to the source material then that can only be a good thing
unlabelledView post →Don't mind me, I'm over here watching the broken window scene from CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR. Again. I don't particularly care for the movie as a whole, but I love this scene: youtu.be/sQ_4m2ocxhI?...
unlabelledView post →I probably shouldn't say this as someone with a doctorate in US-Russia relations, but 'Charlie Wilson's War'. (It wasn't fully accurate, but man it was a fun movie)
unlabelledView post →Posting this clip from 'Charlie Wilson's War, because a. Watching Philip Seymour Hoffman be awesome is never a bad idea and b. It's very relevant to what's wrong with Trump/MAGA view of the world: youtu.be/sQ_4m2ocxhI?...
unlabelledView post →Charlie Wilson's War, got it. Saw the movie but a long time ago.
unlabelledView post →Dan Rather might not be well known to folks outside the US. He was/is an American national treasure broadcast news guy. I know him from a personal favourite film called Charlie Wilson's War, when Tom Hanks in a 1980s hot tub with naked ladies says, "What's Dan Rather doing in Afghanistan?"
unlabelledView post →What gets me is there's a WHOLE OTHER if not film at least B-plot in a second film to explore there that ends up being something like Casablanca meets Charlie Wilson's War, but because it only has a few scenes to establish EVERYTHING it gets clunky because it can't afford the time to be subtle!
unlabelledView post →Charlie Wilson's War, right? Lovely film.
unlabelledView post →Just about a good a time as any to rewatch Charlie Wilson's War www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ_4...
unlabelledView post →I find myself repeating the story of the Zen Master from the movie Charlie Wilson's War. It helps to remind myself that I'm not God...and we'll get through this.
unlabelledView post →Did you see the movie Charlie Wilson's War? The dishonest tool used by a clique in the CIA to go after Charlie was prosecutor Rudy Giuliani.
unlabelledView post →I hate to agree with you but you're right. It's a great fucking movie though. It's like how Charlie Wilson's War is straight-up imperialism propaganda. It's such an entertaining movie but really terrible politics.
unlabelledView post →Christ, why haven't people said out loud that Charlie Wilson's War is such a great movie? Is it because it peaks in the first 20 minutes? So far, it's Tom Hanks playing against type, the great Philip Seymour Hoffman giving an acting master class, and Emily Blunt with a short part, looking gorgeous.

unlabelledView post →Rewatching Charlie Wilson's War 2007
unlabelledView post →Charlie Wilson's War by George Crile is of course magnificent but a victim of its own success when it came time to make the film, which would have benefitted from *less* star power IMO. Then there's epic all-timer Dreadnought by Robert K. Massie. Sprawling cast, excellently portrayed and juggled.
unlabelledView post →CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR is SUCH a good film... that no one seems to remember, EVEN with that cast! Plus some early roles in there too. And FIGHT OR FLIGHT... heh he. For people that through BULLET TRAIN was too sedate...
unlabelledView post →According to Exploding Helicopters there is a few that have more: Alien Rubicon with 13 (probably all crappy CGI, because it is an Asylum film), Dragon Wars with 9, Battleship with 8, Charlie Wilson's War(!) and Avatar with 6. Broken Arrow has 4, the same as Rambo 3 and Independence Day.
unlabelledView post →Can't believe I've never watched Charlie Wilson's War. Until tonight. Terrific film. Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts were great, but it may have been Philip Seymour Hoffman's greatest role, and that's saying something.
unlabelledView post →damn you, now I have to watch this one again. I always find that the film suffers whenever PSH isn't onscreen. I think we were robbed that PSH didn't get a chance to do a full Gust Avrakotos bipoic as like a sequel or prequel to Charlie Wilson's War. That character was just so engrossing.
