Hey folks, I've added Caput Mortum to my Steam Curator page. It's a short horror game with an control scheme reminiscent of days before the medium had a more unified standard of how first-person games should control, and it is GENIUS! Huge thumbs up. 👍 store.steampowered.com/app/3555980/...

    2. Caput Mortum Extremely creepy little horror puzzle game where the idea is you control the player character's hand to interact with the environment and solve puzzles, and once you get used to the weird control scheme, it's utterly fascinating. Very neat game that flew under the radar.

I’ve been too busy to post much about it but Caput Mortum is the newest game I composed for! The controls remind me of playing scary games as a kid before standardised controls. Without something familiar to cling to, it made the whole experience more alien and unsettling!

Okay, Fright Train? VERY good game. Also great to see the range WildArts have. Caput Mortum was an experimental interface slow walking horror game, while this is a mash-up of every survival horror flavor at once that somehow WORKS. Finished my first Chapter 1 run. I thought I did good. Rank E. Hah.

    35. Caput Mortum A very creepy short horror game that asks the player to get to grips with a somewhat archaic and unwieldy control scheme, but trust me that grappling with the controls is half the fun, as you're moving the player character's hand around to interact with in-game objects and puzzles.

I'm surprised that I'm not seeing any discourse whatsoever about how Caput Mortum can be read as an allegory about AI. There's the hubris of men trying to make people, and those "people" making terrible imitations of art. There's the ouroboros imagery, which has its own relevant alchemical meanings but could also tie into AI's tendency to eat its own slop to generate more slop. I don't want to go too far with spoilers, but my point is that there is so much more here than spooky atmosphere and…

I get the idea behind those "RS for hand, LS for movement, BT for camera". But it felt that I am more frustrated by them, rather than vulnerable (as the game claims). The game just felt awkward, in the wrong way. The game looks and sounds majestic though. I felt that I gotta drop after I died almost at the end of Combat Grounds location because it got me back to almost the beginning of a chapter. The encounter with the enemy was fun. For a first couple of times. When the controls and game…

The game I'd most compare this to however, is last year's Caput Mortum, which similarly featured a control scheme that would absolutely turn lots of people off, but I loved because it was so different and asked you the player to interact with its world in ways you weren't used to.

If you like the demo but think the controls are borderline intolerable, know the full version will double down and endlessly needle you with everything you hate about them. Edit: No, dev, you have one scheme for keyboard and mouse, one for keyboard only (absolutely not interested in that), no key rebinding at all, and a controller would make it even more awkward for me. Your game already has plenty of atmosphere and danger, you didn't need terrible controls for artificial 'vulnerability.' I…

I just love this game tbh, in a sea of unpolished, repetitive, generic games its amazing to see something unique and crafted. The old school early 2000s art style has been amazingly recaptured (doesn't even feel like it runs on Unreal Engine) through the model and texture work. The gameplay is also equally quirky in a good way with enemies that have interesting mechanics. With a story and atmosphere that is suitably captivating and creepy. All the associated banner and icon art is also…

Played with my girlfriend and we had a good time. The progression was engaging, made sense and quite varied. We also liked the visuals and atmosphere. Only downside is the game is quite short. The dev could have easily padded out the playtime by adding more enemies, repeating tasks etc. but I think it's better as it is. Nothing wears out its welcome and it kept us engaged. Probably best to play the game in a single sitting, like a movie. Ok I'll hide now.

Excellent atmospheric horror experience. Keep in mind that you're getting 2-4 hours of gameplay for your purchase. If you're alright with that, you're in for a bizarre and memorable time. For a game with accessibility options, I am wholeheartedly disappointed to not see a southpaw option. For the Hermetics reading, I am of course referring to witnessing this rather crude execution of albedo, in which we have seemingly been provided with the masculine right hand but with a striking absence of the feminine left. I ask the developers to instill balance toward the alchemical process, and allow the androgyne traveler their deserved autonomy to use their left hand if they desire.…

This game is simply incredible, from the themes of alchemy and existentialism, and some of the puzzles straight up reward you for understanding the basics of alchemy. the scary moments are effective and do not feel cheap and does not drag and the game does not use it as a crutch, which makes each moment of terror and tension feel unique, the game has been one hell of a ride for me, can't recommend it enough.
