Bicentennial Man
Richard Martin buys a gift, a new NDR-114 robot. The product is named Andrew by the youngest of the family's children. "Bicentennial Man" follows the life and times of Andrew, a robot purchased as a household appliance programmed to perform menial tasks. As Andrew begins to experience emotions and creative thought, the Martin family soon discovers they don't have an ordinary robot. From TMDB

60 of 148 · most liked firstSince I already alienated myself by saying I love the Bicentennial Man movie and it's my favourite Robin Williams film I'll go all out and say I don't really like many Robin Williams performances. But I like him as a more dramatic actor. Also see Jim Carrey who I usually hate but love on occasion.
unlabelledView post →Btw whilst Bicentennial Man is generally considered a flop, it was one of my favourite films from my childhood. The reason I liked it was probably because it was a film about a man trying to... transition
unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ Bicentennial Man (1976) by Isaac Asimov was adapted to film in 1999. The novel takes a cynical view of man vs machine, as Andrew attempts to mimic the best traits of his makers. The film adopts a sentimental tone of humanity with humor playing a key part. 🤖🧠🦿 #filmsky #booksky
unlabelledView post →The Bear isn’t necessarily “good”, but it’s worth watching [crowd nods in agreement] especially as a showcase for individual actors [still nodding] like Oliver Platt [confusion in crowd] who was excellent in Bicentennial Man [crowd is angry] A GREAT MOVIE, BTW [crowd murders me]
unlabelledView post →Rewatched Bicentennial Man today, a movie about a robot that's barely about AI. If anything it reads as an allegory about marriage equality and trans rights, as Andrew goes on a 200 year long quest to receive recognition as a man—a man who is every bit as real as someone who was born that way
unlabelledView post →Man remember that movie Bicentennial Man, well I ain't no 200 years old but you'd only have to take the Centennial out of that title if I was in it
unlabelledView post →Looking for a film to watch this weekend. My top 10 AI related films: 1. Ex Machina 2. Blade Runner 3. I’m Mother 4. Her 5. The Matrix 6. The Terminator 7. Bicentennial Man 8. Creator 9. Sunny 10. Fallout What would you recommend?
unlabelledView post →They haven't really changed from the last time you saw them. His newest video is about the Robin Williams movie "Bicentennial Man", and its about what you would expect from Jon. Jon uploads like once every year or so now. Their style is consistent, I'll give him that much
unlabelledView post →Today's VHS was 200-årsmannen (Bicentennial Man), an end of history pre-9/11 core film where nothing of significance happens for 200 years, except a robot becoming Robin Williams. This shit is AI-bros' wet dream. What if robot could feeling? What if, indeed...
unlabelledView post →But I always thought Bicentennial Man was the best of the lot. And there's actually a subtle reason why. Most of the movie is about "Andrew," a sentient android, and his two century long fight for freedom and equality. We see him become an artist and start making clocks;
unlabelledView post →Probably not an original thought but Isaac Asimov's Bicentennial Man is a fantastic (probably accidental) trans allegory. The film less so.
unlabelledView post →I will remember him as Sir from BICENTENNIAL MAN, a movie that, truthfully, did not deserve him, but got him anyway.
unlabelledView post →Watched Bicentennial Man for the second time since it came out. 😢 Such a weird but cool film. You don't see multiple generations grow up and live whole lives in a film too often. Miss you Robin, your humanity was unique and irreplaceable.
unlabelledView post →[Random] I generally don't talk much, but something you might occasionally hear me say in casual conversation is "One is glad to be of service," instead of "you're welcome." This is a reference to the 1999 film "Bicentennial Man," one of my favourite movies.
unlabelledView post →I’m sorry but I refuse. I am not accepting a revision and reappraisal of Bicentennial Man (1999), a film so egregious that even at 11 I knew it was a sci-fi abortion and an affront to God. #filmsky #film #movies 🎥
unlabelledView post →sure, this is one of the closest landmarks to Robin’s home in Paradise Cay and it was also the tunnel they used in Robin’s film What Dreams May Come (1998) and also his Bicentennial Man (1999) but before it became the Robin Williams Tunnel, it was known for almost 50 years as the Rainbow Tunnel….. 💅
unlabelledView post →I've read SF since I was a kid in the 70s & I've been a huge fan of "sentient robot" stories all along. I,ROBOT & BICENTENNIAL MAN were some of my absolute favs & I was beside myself when I, ROBOT went to film. These stories pinged hard on my social justice nerves plus it was nerdy cool tech. 2/n
unlabelledView post →Just saw the movie Bicentennial Man with my girlfriend @sonatokkito.bsky.social. It was her idea, but that movie gave me an existential crisis and it made her cry. I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE A SILLY MOVIE 😭
unlabelledView post →Start at the A’s: Asimov. No cheating! READ the novels/stories, don’t just watch the movies! Most movies are pretty bad adaptations. OK, I’ll get you started: Asimov’s story “Bicentennial Man”. Read it, then I’ll let you watch the movie with Robin Williams, which is a pretty good adaptation.
unlabelledView post →Wasn't in anger but by the 17th act of Bicentennial Man my mate Scott and I were so bored we fucked off into the bogs for a joint and then just...went home. The movie still had an hour to go. Got texts from the rest of the group going "where r yoos" and I was already in my scratcher. Loved being 14
unlabelledView post →Real movie buffs know he's NOT Bicentennial Man.
unlabelledView post →What Dreams May Come was a gorgeous film with so much emotional depth, and it won the Razzys the year it came out. Their use of color to illustrate mood in all the scenes, the acting, the paint scene, the sailboat scene. I loved it, it's one of my favorites. And Bicentennial Man. Another deep film.
unlabelledView post →Disappointed that the shit Robin Williams film, Bicentennial Man isn't about a hundred year old bisexual.
unlabelledView post →Robin Williams - a genius lost. My go to Robin Williams film though much maligned is Bicentennial Man.
unlabelledView post →Bicentennial Man was a fabulous film.
unlabelledView post →Just watched Bicentennial Man, a wonderful film, poignant. This seems pertinent, “I am growing old, my body is deteriorating, and like all of you, will eventually cease […]. … I could have lived forever. But I tell you all today, I would rather die a man, than live for all eternity a machine”
unlabelledView post →Bicentennial Man. Unapologetically love this film.
unlabelledView post →*watching Bicentennial Man for the very first time* THE SCARY UNCANNY VALLEY ROBIN WILLIAMS MOVIE IS MAKING ME FEEL 😭
unlabelledView post →45. Bicentennial Man by Isaac Asimov. I think this is my favorite story from him. I have a soft spot for the movie.
unlabelledView post →Bicentennial Man was an underrated Sam Neill movie (and one I had a very weird emotional reaction to at the time for no doubt completely cis reasons)
unlabelledView post →I loved Bicentennial Man It can be slow in places and it is another "the robot is the most human character in most of the movie" movies, but it does make you think and Robin Williams committed to the part
unlabelledView post →Oh it's always gonna be Aladdin. But come on-- Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam, Bicentennial Man...you're spoiled for choice if you want a good Robin Williams movie.

unlabelledView post →afaik a movie which did this really well was Bicentennial Man, which has Robin Williams recognize Kiersten Warren as "oh you're not like me at all, your 'personality' is just a routine", and it grates on him constantly to the point where he eventually tries to make her like him by rebuilding her.
unlabelledView post →I saw Gemini Man (2019) at one of only a handful of screens in the US that screened both the high frame rate and 3D (Torrance Regal). It crashed halfway through which I guess happened often. Looked incredible. Movie was bad. Speed Racer The Cell And, of course, Bicentennial Man
unlabelledView post →Bicentennial Man is a quite weird but very good film :) I later bought the book thinking it would just be the film (I was like, 8) and thats how I got introduced to Assimov's short stories :)

unlabelledView post →I just saw a clip of Bicentennial Man on Tiktok and now husband and I want to watch the best Robin Williams movies What in your opinion is the best Robin Williams movie?
unlabelledView post →🪭 Robin McLaurin Williams... He's everywhere now. I like to think Robin's hanging out with Sam Neill in another dimension & they're making each other laugh.🪭 #RobinWilliams (1999 'Bicentennial Man', shot in San Francisco. Forgot about the goofy movie they were in together; must watch again.)
unlabelledView post →Read the short story "The Bicentennial Man" by Issac Asimov before seeing the movie years later. Asimov was asked to write a story for a science fiction collection to be published for the U.S. Bicentennial. The collection was never published, so Asimov included it in a collection of short stories.
unlabelledView post →In 1999 I was working on a Robin Williams movie called “Bicentennial Man“ at the Navy base in Alameda, then converted to soundstages & industry. I saw a race between an experimental EV and the cop car. This squatty little EV blew that cop car away off the line. Funny sight to see.
unlabelledView post →I'm gonna go for Bicentennial Man He's very subtle in it, and we don't see his face until late in the movie, but we KNOW. We FEEL his character (not Robin, per se). Seriously. It's WAY better than you might remember.
unlabelledView post →120.) Bicentennial Man (1999) A film with the ambitions to become a "big, important movie" but never quite gets past just being dully competent. Beware that this 2-hour movie slows to a slogging crawl somewhere between Sam Neill's exit and Robin Williams getting the flesh makeover.
unlabelledView post →Underappreciated film of the day: 'Bicentennial Man' (1999) It might be because Asimov has always been a favorite author of mine, or that I have a generalized soft spot for sci-fi as a means of exploring what it means to be human. Or it might be because I miss Robin Williams.
unlabelledView post →I think his vision carried through to some excellent work like the TV series Humans and Robin Williams film Bicentennial Man. Some of the Humans characters were very similar to Blade Runner characters. I think PKD can be credited with that theme. The Blade Runner 2049 sequel was excellent too.
unlabelledView post →I watched Bicentennial Man and then Sam Neil died Truly a cursed movie
unlabelledView post →seriously if you haven't, watch Bicentennial Man. Beautiful little movie.
unlabelledView post →I have a question for video game genre experts, gamers and geeks from gamedev. When there are elements of technology in a human body, it's Cyberpunk, right? And if there is biomaterial in a robot body, what is it? Maybe this is a new genre? For example, film Bicentennial Man
unlabelledView post →It's kinda becoming a habit that when I take breaks from my Dano Journey I'm remembering Robin. Today with a movie Bicentennial Man.

unlabelledView post →I loved Bicentennial Man! This movie is the reason why my daughter's nickname is Little Miss.
unlabelledView post →Bicentennial Man is peak. A really funny, creative and emotionally resonant film. And yea while I generally love Robin Williams and Jim Carrey in films I can totally see why some don't gravitate towards their performances. To each their own I suppose
unlabelledView post →I'm get that... You know... I self diagnosed bipolar while studying psychology at university. At the time... I was obsessed with Robin Williams' film, Bicentennial Man.. the ideas behind organ replacement etc mostly... But the whole Pinocchio story was really deep. i Love Robin Williams
unlabelledView post →Bicentennial Man. Robin Williams. Excellent film.
unlabelledView post →Man, ads for "Bicentennial Man" and "Bridge to Terabithia" were kind of misleading during their run. I saw both in theaters and well I found Bicentennial Man to be boring, unfortunately. As for Bridge...FUCKED ME UP! It was "My Girl" all over again! It was an ok movie, but the ads SO misleading!

unlabelledView post →So I learned today that the film The Bicentennial Man (1999) is based on an #IsaacAsimov short story by the same name and I can't believe I didn't see it before, the entire plot just has #Asimov written all over it! It's paced like an Asimov work, the philosophical questions it poses, explores […]
unlabelledView post →It's definitely time for a rewatch of Bicentennial Man. It's been so long since I've seen it it'll be like a new movie
unlabelledView post →The actor here seems to be the late Robin Williams. Bicentennial Man helped prove that you don't need to be an overnight financial success story to be a good film.
