When I rewatched Being John Malkovich, I knew I had been put on this Earth to do one thing: define the term "egg cinema." So I did! With lots of examples! episodes.ghost.io/egg-cinema/

unlabelledView post →Something I think about sometimes is how Being John Malkovich starts by revealing the existence of a celebrity puppeteer named Derek Mantini, a setup for the rest of the movie beyond compare in the annals of cinema

unlabelledView post →One of my few treasured memories of my teenage years was spending a Sunday at the dollar theatre, handing the ticket person $4 then watching every movie they were showing on all 4 screens. It was an incredible lineup of films too: Existenz, The Matrix, 13th Floor, and Being John Malkovich.

unlabelledView post →It's for sure a product of its time, but it really doesn't feel like a 1999 movie. Around that time we had - Sixth sense - American beauty - Eyes wide shut - Being John Malkovich - Fight Club Matrix has such a stark level of visual and thematic modernity compared to those. Maybe Fight Club comes near, but the other movies look like they're from a different decade.

unlabelledView post →I really appreciated the movie. Didn’t follow the same formula nearly every movie does, didn’t explain everything (a big plus), excellent acting. Reminded me a bit of Being John Malkovich in a “Your old rules don’t apply! No time to explain! Strap in!” kind of way.

It's just such a weird plot for a movie, I didn't expect that to be the direction it was about at all before going in. It's aged a little bit with some language, but it's an interesting time. #review #moviereview

They never seem to be able to find movies they like. They never put much effort finding things they'd like They're all movies that are from indie filmmakers that managed to get mainstream recognition. Movies like O Brother Where Art Thou, There Will Be Blood, Pulp Fiction, etc. Auteur led movies making original movies. There…

unlabelledView post →This reminds me of my own thoughts on the peak year of cinema: 1999. We got: - the Matrix - American Beauty - Office Space - Fight Club - Being John Malkovich The inciting incident to all of these movies is basically, "I'm a bored white guy feeling existential dread." They're all great films, but if late-90s cinema is any indication, a huge swathe of Americans had virtually no problems back then. Or to put it another way: as of 2000, [Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is…

AND YET when the characters from the game are running amok outside, they do not notice. Why is this? A 'Being John Malkovich' style movie would explain all.
