These were cams, but camcorders from the 90s. The video quality was terrible, and several had ads all through them for some burger place like their equivalent of burger king. The ads had some guy dressed in Saudi style robes and turban watching his burger get eaten by an invisible genie or something. One of the films was Beauty and the…

negative · AI labelView post →What's your Disney song that you'll be playing continuously to defend against public posting of surveillance audio? I like The Mob Song (Kill the Beast) from Beauty and the Beast because Howard Ashman was a genius and also I watched that movie 20 times in a row when I had strep once.
neutral · AI labelView post →Beauty and the Beast is pretty good. Maybe not entirely to my tastes, but there's not much critical I can say about the film, really. It does its job and it does it well. I just happen to like other movies better, I think. ultilix.neocities.org/disney/main

To maximize nostalgia, they would have to wait until those who enjoyed the original movie have their own children of the right age, so at least 20-25 years. Which, to nobody's surprise, neatly matches the time span between original and remake for The Lion King (25 years) and The Beauty and the Beast (26 years). For The Little Mermaid, they waited even longer (34 years).
unlabelledView post →The thematic core of that film is very yucky to say the least. Like an anti Beauty and the Beast.
neutral · AI labelView post →I walked into the living room and Beauty and The Beast is on TV (no one is in the living room, so I assume someone just left it on the Disney channel, but I digress). It's fucking criminal Disney doesn't do 2D animation anymore. This movie rips, it's a work of art.

I got a bunch of Disney movies recently for a dollar a piece, movies like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. And check your local library. I have all of Star Trek Lower Decks ripped from discs I borrowed from my library. I’m working on X-Files now. I’m also not at all against downloading movies and shows after I have purchased them digitally. I’m not against piracy in general…

unlabelledView post →Beauty and The Beast (2014) There is something useful in watching a movie that is painfully aware of its predecessor (Cocteau) and then creating a pre-AI AI slop version of that movie for modern audiences. Amateur work that feels totally thematically confused with itself. 1/5
negative · AI labelView post →Over the course of a month-long Kurosawa fest at The Castro Theater in SF, I saw trailers for the Jean Cocteau Beauty and the Beast and Singin' in Rain five times. I resolved to see them when they played and found they're both pure movie magic. Two of the best film-going experiences of my life.

neutral · AI labelView post →It's like that old (possibly apocryphal) story about Disney instructing the team on the animated "Beauty and the Beast" not to watch the Cocteau film, only to have multitudes of visual references to the Cocteau throughout. Do time-travel authors realize this book anticipates a lot of their tropes?
neutral · AI labelView post →Beauty and the Beast? While I would have been preferred getting Aladdin, this movie is also a feature I’m attached to a lot because of a personal connection to the story and themes; Mar Mar and I both see ourselves in either Belle or Beast depending on the situation.
positive · AI labelView post →All of the Disney movies that taught little girls that their highest ambition should be to marry into the monarchy. Cinderella is garbage, Disney ruined the Little Mermaid by taking the gay out of it, Beauty and the Beast is highly questionable despite having the best protagonist out of the old movies by virtue of being a woman with a personality. Frozen deconstructed the patriarchal tropes to a degree but ultimately engaged in them. Brave is... Actually, Brave is the only good one where the…

positive · AI labelView post →Interesting choice for the article writer to not include even a sentence or two about what the TV show is about. Given the minimal information provided, I will assume it's a remake of Beauty and the Beast set in modern times and gender bent. Still a musical though.

neutral · AI labelView post →Sean is really in a monster phase right now, and at the dentist this morning they were showing Beauty and the Beast. He took to the Beast instantly, so I played the rest of the movie for him tonight. He was so disappointed when his beloved Beast turned into that middling prince. Same, buddy, same.
positive · AI labelView post →I agree definitely not a Beauty and the Beast situation. It is a much scarier movie if you realize the Creature is not lonely he is hungry. He is deciding if Julie Adams is food when he is inspecting her in the swimming scene.
unlabelledView post →Last year I went to a performance of Beauty and the Beast that included the audience. They had two long dinner tables that everyone sat at. The actors worked around us. Running on the tables and in between us. At the far end was the throne chair. There was also a live band mixed into the set and playing the music and sound effects. My only complaint is my neck hurt after from all the looking back and forth. The concept was great. Tho.

unlabelledView post →I gotta imagine it's mostly to do with the Disney Renaissance, where the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast both had casts who had relatively little star power, then Aladdin had Robin Williams, and almost every film after that had at least one big "get butts in seats"-tier celebrity casting.

Very lovely but also spooky film. Love how it gradually transitions from horror to fairy tale romance though, I wish we had more films like that.
