60 of 136 · most liked firstThis was an awesome game back in 2007, and it's still amazing. With fixed graphical enhancements (not locked at 720p anymore) this is a treasure for the library. Allot of people were mega butt-hurt on initial release because it didn't have air dashing/double jumping and the chain-combo/cancel/chain-combo/cancel option select rinse repeat system that ark sys is well known for. The result of this were allot of short sighted reviews that were technically wrong. The systems in this game are not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It suffers from poor netcode and stuttering framerate during combat. I would wait and see if it gets a patch before purchasing. On further consideration, if you're just looking for single player content, or even local multiplayer, those features work. If you're just looking to enjoy the game's content casually, the stuttering may not bother you all that much. Just as a person who is looking for competitive net play, I don't recommend this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah, BattleFantasia. Back in the day, this was just about the only game that every member of my FGC enjoyed. Everyone from the Street Fighter players, the Tekken crowd to the - then new and coming - anime players. The game is a cartoony, fantasy themed fighter which is very easy to pick up, with a small roster and easy to grasp movelists for the characters. That's not to say the game is simple, this in an Arcsys game after all. Sure, the small roster makes it easier to learn match-ups so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've always wanted to play Battle Fantasia and now I can! I'll try to list as many Pros and Cons as possible (Remember, these are purely my opinions) Pros: Clean Systems Interesting Character Designs Great Fighting System Feels like a mixture of having a footsies game while being able to do some sick combos Nicely Ported Good Sound-Track Cons: Not too many settings to tinker with(My Comps a potato so I wish I could edit the graphic settings more, but thats just me) Cast is kinda on the small…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I received a bit of flak for my original review and to be fair I probably hadn't played enough of the game so I thought I'd play it a bit more and watch some videos online. Here is my "revised" review. I've left my original review below. ++Pros++ +Story mode The scenarios are fun to play through and characters are likeable and have strong personallities. I really like how the characters interacted with each other in combat and also in the story mode +Combat After actually trying everyone…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rather enjoyable fighting game in the SF mold that feels SF4ish with the SF3 parry system thrown in for good measure. It has a relatively small fighting roster but with the dozen combatants at your disposal there's more than enough diversity to cater to all playing styles. The game is dead for online play but if you enjoy picking up distinctive and mechanically sound fighters to play with friends or by yourself what this game offers is well worth even its regular price.

I adore this game, having played hours upon hours on the console versions and was so damn happy with this finally being on PC. With new Full Resolution support the game looks fantastic! The artstyle is wonderfully unique and honestly don't think there is anything like it. With the Anti Ailising options it looks brilliant! The microstutter has gone for myself too, which has left me in tears of joy! I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It reminds me of the days when fighting games were big and companies could make experimental games with different themes. It might not be the deepest fighting game out there, but it's still pretty fun and satisfying, with a very diverse and interesting (if definitely small) roster. I'm glad we're getting more fighters on PC, and I'll gladly vote with my wallet so it keeps happening - as long as we get fun games like this one, of course.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the most fun I've had with a fighting game before. The characters are amazing, the combos, the action, the mechanics, it's all 10/10. Most fighting games will make you salty after a while, not when it's cute fairy creatures. A fighting game for all ages.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →December 1st, 2015: I'm updating this to a positive review due to the outstanding patch that was released recently. I don't know who Ark System Works whipped up into shape to get this game on its feet, but whoever finally fixed the flaws in this game deserves a fist bump. Every technical issue that I had with the game has been alleviated. I can't really test the netcode since the community for it has diminished to nothing, bu as soon as I can get a friend or two on this game I'll be more than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is rather fun, honestly. The controls do take some getting used to but it doesn't really take away from the fun-factor. The final boss is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think thats a nice game. But not cathing stars from the sky. Most of people downvoting Battle Fantasia because this game is not Guilty Gear. Thats simply stupid.

unlabelledView post →Basically Street Fighter IV light. If you're looking for a cheap fighter to play and have no interest in MP, then it's alright.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I only finished the story mode and it is such a whimsical experience. Loved each character, especially my beloved Ashley 💞
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one has a battle type for everyone. A few are good for setting up elaborate attackes over time, Watson namely, others do massive combos, and a few just go with well timed simple moves for a different skill based tactic. Great visuals, but still clean, and a decient story. I for one have really enjoyed so far.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while i am writing the review as positive i still have many complaints about the port. the game is old and it seems they didn't do any upgrades to the graphics and the game suffers from stuttering even when the fps indicator is showing 60fps. the game itself is really fun and i enjoyed it for many many hours on the ps3. it has many unique mechanics like every character has different stats like HP..etc. the game isn't too complicated like Guilty Gear or BlazBlue so newcomers will enjoy it too.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More enjoyable mechanically than Strive (yeah I said it), cleaner aesthetically than GBVS (and I mean it), and all for less than $5 (on sale). This is a real gem of a fighter that's an absolute blast from the past to play, and its small cast of 12 actually fair characters means you don't have to learn which buttons you can't press for 65+ different matchups. There's no BS comeback mechanics, broken characters, or over-tuned Shotos to be found here. In my opinion, Battle Fantasia originally…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had no idea what a Taito Type X machine was until I googled the game origins. Apparently it was one of the games that Battle Fantasia ran on in arcades. High Specs and probably expensive to manufacturer too! And then PS3 and XBOX 360 received ports although the games graphics were downsampled on this hardware due to the specs the original ran on. This version of the game gives you a little bit more configurability to control the graphics options and anti-ailsing to make the game look better…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent enough conversion from the game we saw back on last gen consoles in 2008. Unfortunately the hope of some new characters or new modes is dashed as this really is the same game from 2008. Does that make it a bad game? No, it is actually a decent 2D fighter but definetly one for the hardcore crowd rather than the casual gamer. For a comparison of this version and the 360 version see here:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Art style + Decent story mode - Final boss is extremely unfair, and frustrating to play against; I have no desire to play this game anymore as a result - Story mode has secret conditions and branches that remain unexplained; you will have to use outside sources to complete the character stories - Character voices and voice clips are a mixed bag - Music is mediocre

I'm glad I bought the game after it was fixed. They only issue I have is the lack of people in the network. This game is solid highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →30 FPS => refund
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's definitely one of those you either LOVE IT or HATE IT games. I couldn't stand it, the character design, animations, stages and music was excellent. Once I reached actual gameplay it was like playing a VERY VERY slow footsie based Streetfighter with Animefighter-esque qualities. If you're looking for 21-hit combos or flashy gameplay, this is not the game. If you like a slow, footsie based fighter (slow compared to most fighters ATM) this is the game for you. I was really hoping it would…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Battle Fantasia (henceforth shortened to "BatFan" for brevity's sake) to bits, but it's not without its flaws. Unfortunately, this game's flaws are so glaring and impactful that I can't recommend it to you unless you're a diehard fighting game enthusiast like myself. Firstly, BatFan has no in-game tutorial of any kind; the only way to learn the ins and outs of BatFan (besides trial and error) is online guides (which, given how obscure this game is, are very sparse). For a 2007 arcade…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I took a chance and took advantage of the special offer (75% off) and to my amazement, this game has delivered a hit. 3D characters moving fluidly with a 2D texture look creates a fantastic team together. There is talk about a kind of diffuicult learning curve to this game but i just couldn't find it being anything unusually different from other common fighters. The learning curve is just about the same on avarage. The game is gorgeous and the gameplay is fun with high replay value. I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I always wanted to play Battle Fantasia and now I can! For $15, I'm getting the newest version of the game, with additional features, better graphics and more balanced gameplay. This game is full of charm and won me over from the start. The fact that everyone is all tight-assed about it not being Guilty Gear really annoys me, because Battle Fantasia is worth enjoying for its own qualities. Not being another game is not a legitimate criticism.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great fighting game with the worst netcode of all time. Damn shame, too. I can't recommend unless you have locals, but considering this is on PC, that's kinda hard to do. Maybe Remote Play Together can save it, but just barely...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The learning curve is a bit steep, and I'm not very skilled. This is not an entry level game, and I do not recommend this as a first fighting game. If you are already skilled, then this might be an okay game for you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Fantasia is the first Arc System Works game I've played. I haven't played BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, or Fist Of The North Star so I can't say how this game plays compared to those, but what I can say is that this is a pretty fun game despite some issues. Don't get me wrong though, DotEmu's port job borders on atrocius. Starting with the launcher. You are given very few resolution options and no graphical options other than full screen. And you chose whether or not to use a controller from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another interesting brawler ruined by a cheesey boss. Its a pretty good game for versus fights and such - just turn it off when you get to the final battle. That boss character is just garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a nice little fighting game in and of it's own right with interesting characters different ArcSysWorks' typical designs. It also comes with the soundtrack. However, the online is absolutely dead. It's mixed bag, but it's definitely worthy if you can get it for cheapo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Featuring Daisuke Ishiwatari as the voice of Freed please fix the netcode some day though
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy how diverse the characters and fighting styles are in this game. No Ryu/Ken ripoffs (I think this is bound to happen when attention is paid with quality over quantity in its 12 characters) and the story mode makes it feel like people fight as a part of communication (let go you're squeezing too hard) or reality tv (I need that information now!). Controls are good; I like Freed (the pirate) most, with his Heat My Justice special (though I guess the firepower makes it heat and not eat).…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun accessible fighter that in comparison to other ArcSys fighters isn't too fast paced. Various modes to keep single player interesting: Story mode, survival mode, time attack. Unfortunately the online community (at this present moment) is very tiny. For veterans I would recommend cranking up the difficulty because this game's mechanics are pretty standard. I found myself getting through normal arcade pretty easily.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is totally goated with the sauce.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate this game so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ much. It's not fun to play. It's not satisfying to play. The computer is ungodly hard. There's no real combo system. If you enjoy fighting games DO NOT GET THIS. I tried to refund it and they refused. I haven't even played it for 2 hours. This game makes me so angry.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really fun, I think it's a small little gem, the controls aren't that hard and the story is very interesting, although some combos are a bit hard to make (at least for me) it's also very good for just some casual playing at random moments.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game, but it's very basic and simple. There feels like there could be more done with it. The characters are probably one of the better things with this game, but it's overall basic. I'd get this game when it's on sale, it isn't really worth $15.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow game where you shuffle across the map poking at eachother Street Fighter style. However, it is much worse than Street Fighter. If you think of getting this game, don't. Get Street Fighter instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bought the game. played it. loved it. tried to play online. never could. returned it. sorry BF, you were short and sweet.

unlabelledView post →Couldn't even get a controller to function on here so I couldn't get past the start screen. Also it wouldn't even boot up for the first 10 minutes, so I'll take that as a message to not play this game and go back to Granblue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Con: Have to use a joystick mapping software to get my stick to work. This is completely unacceptable, even asking for money for a keyboard only fighter is absurd. Also, there is no tutorial and no manual, so you have to look online to learn the mechanics. This is silly, there should at least be a basic pdf included with the game. Pros: Everything else. Its a super charming, almost studio ghibli like fantasy fighting game. Theres no OKI so its like samsho where neutral is GOD. Fun game with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are too many UI problems in this game for me to invest time into it, much less to recommend it. It doesn't even allow two players to use controllers. I was thinking of playing it during my next gaming party, but not anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main problem is that it's boring as F.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a reason why there are no side tournaments for this game, there's barely any tech, or anyone ever really talks about it: it is a pile of garbage. Mechanics are nothing innovative, it has an unnecessary amount of buttons for such a simple game (4 attack + a dedicated parry button), roster is small, there's barely any SP modes with arcade being as cheap as an old-school SNK game, and the netcode is terrible. The only credit this game gets is that thanks to it, ASW dipped their toes into…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shoddy animations and a terrible controller setup that manages to assign a special move to the same button as a second player joining the game. Some fun characters, but they don't look nearly as good in battle as the artwork before a match.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay style is similar to fighting game such as KOF 98 and Street Fighter 3, so the combo system is not going to be complex like other fighting game by Arc System (example Blazblue). But the game is fun nonetheless........................... to those who wants to know how to defeat the "final boss", use the Heat Mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garbage gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seriously... this game is great for a fighting game... visual is nice.. story is cool, and fighting move is also awesome.. well, i like it :) somehow, i just forget that i have this game sitting in my library x(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the 1st 3D fighting game with... Ambidextrous Sprite. Or more likely, prototype of Guilty Gear Xrd, because of 1st try using 3D Engine. For weird reason, Capcom try to copy the idea into Street Fighter IV, it works. Combat system wise, it lacks of Instant Kill, air dash, etc. from it's own game company. However don't fool by the lack of these systems, the story and characters' setting are pretty neat. If you play as Guilty Gear Xrd's Sol, you know there's Dragon Install, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play this on the PS3 before, and I enjoyed it. But here, it's a mess. While I can tolerate 720p lock, setting up controls in a launcher and shonky netcode (that last one doesn't bother me since I'm not into multiplayer), it's the framerate that renders the whole thing unplayable: everything's at a sluggish 30fps. All of this is due to DotEmu being lazy ****s for not doing a proper port of this thing, opting to just make a crappy emulator out of it. Until it's more or less fixed, don't…
