Critics, per Wikipedia
The film "was not the commercial success Warner Bros. had been hoping for" within the United States, although it fared better in Europe. In the US it earned $9.1 million. The film grossed a worldwide total of $20.3 million against a production budget of $11–12 million. This mixed reaction saw the film (in the words of one retrospective review) "greeted, on its release, with dutiful admiration – but not love. Critics ... rail[ed] against the perceived coldness of Kubrick's style, the film's self-conscious artistry and slow pace. Audiences, on the whole, rather agreed". Roger Ebert gave the film three and a half stars out of four and wrote that it "is almost aggressive in its cool detachment.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Oh, Warner Bros. Classics just uploaded the entirety of “Barry Lyndon” on YouTube. For free. If you’ve never watched it - or even if you have - check it out. youtu.be/VkDqDQsYLlg
neutral · AI labelView post →I haven't had both boys here for a movie at the same time in months and months, and tonight, they're going to be here, and I was told in no uncertain terms that we are watching the new 4K of BARRY LYNDON, which they've never seen. 20 and 17. This is the pick they make. I'm so proud.
positive · AI labelView post →watching my favorite movie (Barry Lyndon)
positive · AI labelView post →i think that’s right. compared to the typical prestige steaming show that takes 5 hours just to get to a compelling narrative dilemma, BARRY LYNDON feels like an action movie
positive · AI labelView post →was pleasantly doing some light work while listening to classical music then Handel Keyboard's Suite in D Minor started playing in the background and I instantly entered a state of blind rage took me a moment to realise it's in Barry Lyndon (1975), the longest film ever made in the history of man
negative · AI labelView post →Man social media really is for people with no social skills (yes I am aware I post too much). “What’s a good sci-fi movie I haven’t seen?” “Not sci-fi but I like Barry Lyndon!” My reaction has slowly changed from “oh yeah that’s not what I was looking for but it’s a good movie!” to “BURN IN HELL”
negative · AI labelView post →Savage House, a movie boldly asking "what if we did a remake of Barry Lyndon for people who found Saltburn too subtle"
neutral · AI labelView post →thinking about the ending Barry Lyndon title card again, no particular reason, just a thing I think about a lot, great movie, great typeface. one day I’m maybe gonna get the last line as a tattoo. no reason

neutral · AI labelView post →Tonight I’m watching the Criterion Collection 4K remaster of one of the most gorgeous films ever made, Barry Lyndon. They used NASA lenses to film this movie, in order to capture the natural lighting and give it the look of a painting from the time period. Afaik, it’s the only film to ever do that.
positive · AI labelView post →One of my favorite cinematic moments was seeing Barry Lyndon at the Paris and my friend who hadn’t seen it, who assumed it was about some great warrior or something, halfway through he looks over and says to me, “wait, this whole movie is about this idiot?”
neutral · AI labelView post →Post a movie from the 1970s that starts with the letter B 🎥 Barry Lyndon 🖤
neutral · AI labelView post →How Kubrick Achieved the Beautiful Cinematography of Barry Lyndon. One of my favorite films of all time. And one of my favorite movie YouTube channels. He's describing how Kubrick made the absolutely breathtaking shots in Barry Lyndon, by using mostly natural light and a very special lens from NASA.

neutral · AI labelView post →thinking about Barry Lyndon film
neutral · AI labelView post →Wait LMAO it got so much worse, why are you talking about him like he's Spider-Man, he's a Barry Lyndon-esque feckless sleaze, the movie is a series of his misadventures getting out of problems he caused
neutral · AI labelView post →My favorite 🔭x🎥 fact. The Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f/0.7 lens, was designed for the Apolo program to photograph the dark side of the moon. Ten units were made: Carl Zeiss kept one, NASA got six, and Stanley Kubrick the remaining three, and used them to film stunning candlelight scenes in Barry Lyndon.

neutral · AI labelView post →two things to add: - got talking to the two people next to me at the intermission who were also Not Really Film People and when I said I'd want to read about the movie afterwards one of them glacially went "really?" - if anyone has interesting things to read on Barry Lyndon then somehow I am game!
neutral · AI labelView post →Robert Redford was almost cast as Barry Lyndon instead of Ryan O’Neal and even though Redford is a (wayyyy) better actor O’Neal was perfect for that movie
neutral · AI labelView post →I stayed up til 4 am just to watch all of Barry Lyndon on TCM. Incredible movie
positive · AI labelView post →Stanley Kubrick didnt film Barry Lyndon with NASA lenses to capture scenes only in candlelight just so you vould tell me AI is "inevitable." neiloseman.com/barry-lyndon...
positive · AI labelView post →Belated #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched. I took a break from film after my Best Picture catchup marathon, and this was an interesting spread of genres to ease back in. Plus, my first theater watch of the year. Still thinking about the sheep hearse in Barry Lyndon.
neutral · AI labelView post →New York City is the greatest city in the world because I have paid attention to this over the last few years and every 4-6 months some movie house WILL show Barry Lyndon. Some movies come and some movies go but you can set your watch to being able to go to the movie theater and see Barry Lyndon.

neutral · AI labelView post →Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director of all time. I consider Barry Lyndon such high art that if you could frame it, it would belong in the Louvre. But he was entirely about managing everything about his films *and* his life to precise detail, so it doesn't surprise me that he canceled a book that had criticisms he didn't care for. Really, most unvarnished truths about Kubrick were only ever going to come out after his death when his correspondence could be studied and people could be…
positive · AI labelView post →Masterful & sadistic film director Stanley Kubrick was BOTD in 1928 & died in 1999 at 70. "Barry Lyndon" (1975) is his most underrated masterpiece, "The Shining" (1980) his most divisive. Most miss the point that 4 a director accused of misogyny, it's def his most feminist film
neutral · AI labelView post →Loads. Let's go with: Powerscourt House burned down in November 1974, having been used earlier that year as a location in Barry Lyndon. The film contains the best record of what the interiors looked like

neutral · AI labelView post →The older I get, the more I love BARRY LYNDON. I genuinely believe that it’s Kubrick’s richest film.
positive · AI labelView post →Kubrick didn't get the same lenses that NASA had used in space to film Barry Lyndon by candlelight so you could tell me that AI is "inevitable".
neutral · AI labelView post →As a photography buff/addict/enthusiast Barry Lyndon is my favorite Kubrick film. To me the plot and actors are secondary to the great available light photography and shot compositions.

Some nice cameos. Engaging and tense in places. Aside from Ryan O'Neal's wandering accent, damn near perfect. #filmsky
positive · AI labelView post →A crazy thing about that movie. It's shot by John Alcott. Who shot BARRY LYNDON and THE SHINING. And it was directed by the guy who directed... PHANTASM. Crazy.
neutral · AI labelView post →I think BARRY LYNDON is the cheeriest movie here. I need to lighten up next week.
