After hours (not mentioned enough, absolute cult movie). I love absurd coincidences and an avalanche of bad choices. Meet Joe Black. Death and loss is a main theme for me. But there is a romantic side to it. Dawn of the Dead (1978). Hope and survival, even in desperation.
For the concept alone, probably Avalanche (1978), starring Rock Hudson and Mia Farrow. It was such a bad film - although on a shoestring budget - and a great case study on what not to do in movie-making, but still had some redeeming qualities. Shot on location in Durango, Co.
