unlabelledView post →Digital Eclipse just released new DLC for Atari 50, covering Namco ports for Atari platforms. And... hey, what's this? That's Computer Entertainer, the game magazine we released into the Creative Commons this summer! It's already being used in commercial game history projects
unlabelledView post →After G-Mode Archives+: Pac-Man comes out, the Nintendo Switch will tie with the Gamecube in how many different releases of Pac-Man are on the same console (9). If one counts the multiple versions in Atari 50, or Namcot Collection as separate from Namco Museum Archives, Switch already surpasses it.
unlabelledView post →Ignore the haters, especially that top negative review from a person who PLAYED FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR. (Seriously? that's not even enough time to quality check every game, man.) This is one of the most comprehensive game collections ever made. Arcade releases, console games all the way up to the Jaguar, historical games recovered, prototypes, exclusive interviews, and as of this review, even MORE games have been added, with Namco ports slated to be released soon. Buy the base version on sale…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please add the ability to reassign all of the controls. I was just playing 2600 Millipede-- the game I play the most of in this collection-- and was in the process of getting a nice score (for me) when the game suddenly reset because my finger brushed up against the Right Control key by accident while using the arrow cursor control keys to play. So when I go to reassign the Reset function to a different key, I see that it-- along with just over half of the other game controls-- are grayed-out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was way ahead of its time! Cut scenes, great animation, tons of text... on the 2600! Glad we were able to locate not only the game, but the woman who created it! Check it out in our latest DLC for Atari 50!
unlabelledView post →After the latest update and DLCs, they have added a new "authenticity" feature (what I call it) where the screen glitches CONSTANTLY whenever you are navigating. They must think it's cool and cute. It's not. It's extremely irritating and even though I do not have photosensitivity problems, I cannot use the thing. EVERY time you click to move through games, you get this giant glitch effect. I have been into Settings and there's no way to turn it off, and there's a whole different glitch…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dare you to find any extended positive coverage of the Virtual Boy from the time of its release. You might find a few from Jaguar, but go play some of those Atari 50 games People love to retcon shit for the sake of argument. Just saying any ol' bullshit "The Gizmondo had hoes." No it didn't!
unlabelledView post →Not recommended. A faithful restoration of a number of games from the dawn of gaming, but including so few games overall and so many super-obscure games - and so few popular favorites - that more is missing than is included. Do not expect to recreate many childhood memories with this. Nostalgia is big business. Of course, it always has been, but '80s and '90s nostalgia is so hot right now. And why not? The colors were brighter, the world was (generally) calmer, and it was a simpler time. So…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look at this cool thing that happened, as we ramp up towards releasing our next interactive documentary game -- Atari 50 was given a Guinness World Record!
unlabelledView post →The games are boring and old and I didn't play them! But I really enjoyed the museum feature! It's very well designed and educational! I spent like six hours just poring over it and watching the little mini documentaries! One of them was about this old Asian chick who did graphic design for Atari! Then it started showing pics of her from the 70s and she was hot! Time gradually ruins everything! We're getting older every second and we're all going to die!

I'm back in my own room in 1984!" . . . . but then snapped out of it and realized it's 2025. This is as close as us 80's kids can get to experiencing time travel. I just wish the Atari games had an optional old CRT background.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I generally refrain from using reaction images, but with a medium like Bsky I can't give a long-winded ramble about how incredibly cool this is to me. tl;dr Atari 50 and Digital Eclipse as a whole continue to be the absolute best example of commercial game history preservation on the market.
unlabelledView post →It pains me to be negative about this wonderful bundle of classic games, wrapped in nostalgia and which defined my generation. However this is Sega without Sonic, Nintendo without Mario, EA without DRM. We all lived for Pac-Man and Frogger on these platforms and without their inclusion it just feels hollow. I know there are reasons and excuses but you should have worked to find solutions, not just provide explanations and justifications. This is a lovely idea let down in so many ways it just…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalgia, like emulators, are best when they are free. Buying the Atari collection, I thought I would be reminded of games I loved, but they are all missing in favour of terrible versions of games I had fondness for because it was the 80s. This collection costs too much and frankly, the emulator versions I have already played do it better than this collection, particularly in the control systems. I don't remember arcade machines being this sloppy on the controls. Poor effort Atari... just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't really know how to feel about this. It's cool that there's a nice comprehensive collection of a lot of these titles. It's also cool how there are lil docu vids of some of the original people giving little takes. I do think it's absolutely wild that they just stop short of admitting they were on cocaine and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ secretarys all the time, like it's actually kinda wild how much they say before they stop. As for everything else though? It isn't a comprehensive collection, it doesn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointed to say the least Your better off sticking with an actual documentry than this. I like the concept of it being like your own gaming muesuem but in execution not so much. The biggest reason many of the heavy hitters of the era are missing; due to IP's being owned by different companies that don't like sharing. What really killed my enjoyment were the controls and super annuation (becoming obsolete), if you know your history many first titles were old arcade games that used novel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s random game Saturday! What is left to say about Tempest 2000? It’s a brilliantly intense shoot-'em-up. I prefer the cartridge soundtrack to the CD arrangements. Is that controversial? I dunno. Play it on a Jaguar, play it on Atari 50, play it on Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, just play it.
unlabelledView post →Finally got the Atari 50 Collection on Steam after missing the window of when the Switch cart's price wasn't insane. I haven't even played anything yet and I'm in love with Digital Eclipse's style of game museum here. I just got up to 1982 in the timeline and I'm like this GIF
unlabelledView post →Ok, these games are very much 'of their time' and most of them are probably only going to appeal to hardcore video game historians and people who are nostalgic about them from their childhood. But that being said, there are some real gems in this collection - as fun and addictive as they no doubt were when they were hot off the shelves. O.G. Pac Man, Breakout, Dig Dug, Bezerk, Frenzy, Galaxian, Galaga, Xevious, Asteroids, Dark Chambers; the list goes on - all fantastic games and well worth the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok maybe I'm the dissenting voice but I honestly feel like I wasted my money (fortunately I bought it at a discount otherwise I would call it a ripoff.) Anyway, it is difficult to play the games with a keyboard. The instructions are confusing and insufficient since I'm not using original Atari consoles but my PC keyboard. Little or no use for the mouse. I give the thing a 2 out of 10 for the historical/nostalgic value. I requested a refund but it was denied due to Steam's policy not to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun compilation of several great arcade games, console games, and modern updated games. I wanted it just for Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede, Fire Truck, I robot, Millipede, Tempest, Adventure (2600), Tempest (Jaguar), Atari Kart (Jaguar), Miner 2049 (Atari 800) and some Atari 5200 and 7800 games. I like it so much I purchased it for the Nintendo switch as well. It's a good deal on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loving the new interviews in the Atari 50 console war DLC The absolute disdain for the Intellivision controller lmao

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hot take: Adventure for the 2600 is better than Zelda.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are an enthusiastic of old videogames or are curious of videogames history, you must have this collection. But beware. It's not just a bunch of ROMS, but a really interesting encyclopedia, and a very well crafted one. But letme do a clarification: there are so many classic Atari games, like Pacman, Moon patrol, Donkey Kong, Pole Position, Galaga, Riders of lost Ark, Joust, Defender, Tron, Space invaders, etc. you won't find here (I believe it's a matter of copyrights), so It might not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean, it's Atari. You've played all these games before in one way or another. I'm almost 50, so I remember them well, although my first console was an Intellivision. I'm almost 100% it'll never happen, but I'd love to see some of the old Activision and Atari licensed games,, as well as Intellivision and their licensed games on here. I'm sure I have a CD-ROM with everything from a few decades ago, but I'd rather pay... IF they could make it available. It's worth my money

A name people nowadays have no idea about wile "we old farts" sure remember the "good old days" of gaming. Man, this collection brings up a lot memorize... Oh and before someone is like that person, i got this collection also on my switch where i have at least…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is so cool. Atari 50 is genuinely one of the best classic game collections ever released, not just for the games included, but for the massive amounts of well-designed remakes and extra content. And they're adding more, for free. Fuck yeah, Digital Eclipse.
unlabelledView post →On one hand this is an *incredible* deal on the other hand I don't like that something this great is less than $5 because a) why undervalue and b) every other ~$5 game had Atari 50 as its competition
unlabelledView post →I grew up with some of these. Going to the arcade to play games with friends was the highlight of weekends and after school. This set of games is well worth the money. Surgery every 6 months means I get to play games for not only killing time but to keep my mind off pain levels until I recover. I buy games primarily for surgery recovery purposes. This set of games is the best value so far of all the games I have in my collection.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only for Atari nerds, but very good at what it does. More than just an emulator and a bunch of bundled ROMS, adverts, interviews and versions of the games included The collection is rather 8-bit and 2600 heavy, choosing to literally ignore the Atari ST by giving it one image and a couple of tech sheets. No games, no screenshots. Nothing. It was the Saint Tramiel! I like it though, and I would pay for a 16 bit 'ST era' DLC or an 8-bit expanded pack with some Lucasarts games like Rescue on…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration stands apart from typical retro compilations by presenting itself as an interactive museum rather than a simple bundle of old games. Digital Eclipse approaches the material with the philosophy that history should be explored, not merely displayed, and that ethos shapes the entire experience. Instead of a plain list of titles, the collection unfolds through a series of interconnected timelines filled with interviews, design documents, vintage ads,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's never too late to brush up on history -- especially when history is this much fun to play. unlabelledView post →This is more a Documentary with some cool games tacked onto them. I usually avoid doing the whole Pro and Con cliche for reviews but for the sake of brevity... Pros: This includes some new games to celebrate the anniversary but these should be treated more like mini games but for what it is worth, they are really good. VCTR-SCTR is amazing If you want to learn more about the great grandpappy of the industry, this is a great way to do so, a lot of love went into making this game. Decent…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent and interesting interactive documentary. Digital Eclipse has found quite a groovy way to do these things. It's fun to be able to muck about with the games themselves as you read and watch videos about them, and also try out unreleased new things and more obscure versions. To be fair, I don't have any real nostalgia for early Atari, and in my opinion there aren't many games from that era that hold up today. Very few actually. But I love the fact that this exists and it's fun to mess…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m finally going through Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection on Switch and this section really hit home. A tale as old as time. And very little has changed. More positively though, I absolutely LOVE these collections of video game history. The Atari 2600 was our very first console. #videogames

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who still has his Atari 2600 from his childhood, I like this overall, but it has some concerns. 1. Doesn't work correctly with a Dualshock 4 controller. I'm even using the official PS BT dongle. 2. Direct 3D has graphical glitches with the animated menus and I must use the OpenGL API instead, then it's fine. Not a massive negative since both API's seem to offer comparable features/performance. Still. 3. Star Raiders is one of my fav games and apparently at the higher difficulties…

unlabelledView post →>> THIS IS NOT A GAME! << This is an interactive documentary about the many years of Atari history. You will learn about (and play like 95% of the games): - Atari Arcade Era (Coin-up) - Atari Console Era (2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar) - Atari Computer Era (400, 800, XL, XE) - Intellivision (DLC) - Homebrews (DLC) If you are an Atari fan it's very great to learn backstage of the games and systems, if not... You can play many games on a stellar app, who I can't say the name here *wink*.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For Atari 50, each engineer was also given free rein to solo design a "Reimagined" game (just like 1970s Atari!). I made VCTR-SCTR, a love letter to classic vector arcade games. I learned a ton, dragged our 2D engine into 3D, and @bob.town made a KILLER soundtrack. I'll always love this one.
unlabelledView post →I wouldn't normally recommend purchasing an old rom compilation, though I'd actually give this one a big thumbs up. There's a wide range of games from various systems across Atari's lifespan, even outside of consoles. Various options such as tv filters, pixel luminescence, game manuals and on the fly switch toggle for 2600 games are included. The arcade and jaguar games are the major highlight, as they are very difficult to emulate yourself, especially the older games like pong and breakout.…
