Wes Anderson fans didn't give it full marks because it's not as experimental as Asteroid City, and the rest don't like his style anyway. It still replaces The Grand Budapest Hotel as the movie I'd use to introduce people to Wes Anderson
unlabelledView post →Asteroid City. Very good. Will probably be the most visually impressive film involving nuclear bomb tests that I see this year.
unlabelledView post →Today we published an essay by the late, great film scholar David Bordwell, written for my book on Asteroid City. This is the last work David published prior to his death last year. It is an honor to have him in these pages.
unlabelledView post →See also: Asteroid City See also: The Repair Shop if Wes Anderson directed it.

I also really enjoyed Megalopolis but understand it's not a perfect film, kinda gonzo. If you like Cthulhu type stuff then Nic Cage starred in an adaptation of Lovecraft's "Colors out of space" that my wife and I both really enjoyed. A lot of people missed the 2008 adaptation of Speedracer done by the Wachowski sisters (same people who did the Matrix) which is a real shame…
unlabelledView post →even the color balance isn’t just Fucking Gray. Visually, Barbieland and Asteroid City hit similar parts of my brain; it’s just that Asteroid City is a wes anderson movie for people like me (movie nerds) and this is actually a movie that had blockbuster aims
unlabelledView post →watched Asteroid City last night. loved it. have no fucking idea what the fuck was going on, at any point. wasn't even high or anything. just not prepared for that much Movie in my movie. gorgeous film though

unlabelledView post →What was the last comedy that you watched in theaters?. It's said that comedy movies are dying because they don't bring people to the theater. I remember when rom-coms used to be a genre that would be practically guaranteed to do good numbers, but it seems like studios are avoiding the genre now or releasing direct to streaming. I think that most comedies today are primarily another genre, like action/adventure or horror with a bit of millennial irony on the top. I think the biggest comedy…
unlabelledView post →Oh, oh. Another Wes Anderson movie opens tomorrow that I’ll have to attend by myself. The bride wouldn’t last 5 minutes watching Wes. His movies can be terrible (Asteroid City), but when they’re good, there are a lot of smiles.
unlabelledView post →thinking again about how the margot robbie scene in ASTEROID CITY is at the center of like three levels of narrative artifice but also the gutting, emotional heart of the movie
unlabelledView post →a nice easter egg for filmgoers was the inclusion of Cool Ethan in the film ASTEROID CITY
unlabelledView post →It’s all well and good for Prime Video to give you the names of the actors in a given movie but my kingdom for the app that tells me when I pause on screen what lipstick Scarlett Johansson is wearing in Asteroid City.
unlabelledView post →Rewatched Asteroid City tonight, and that weird little movie is rapidly becoming my favorite Wes Anderson.

unlabelledView post →I assigned Asteroid City last semester in Intro to Film (for good reasons!), and a student began discussion--venom in her eyes--by asking how I could possibly ask them to watch a movie "with only an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes."

unlabelledView post →There is a newscaster in Springfield I’ve inadvertently sat behind in a movie theater for 4 Wes Anderson movies. I assume we’re both fans on the same level: opening weekend on Sunday. Asteroid City - After the movie, in the lobby, I said “pretty good movie, huh?” he laughed & said “Wes Anderson”

There’s not much else similar about the two movies but the location, set and set dressing look absolutely identical! #TCMParty #cinema #movies
