This year's Oscars became a triumph of Russia. 'Anora', the story of a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, won 5 awards. The movie features Russian actors who openly promote Putin's propaganda. (C: Dmytro Kovalenko)

Morning from Kyiv! As usual, we had drones at night. Meanwhile, the movie Anora, starring russian actors and telling the story of the love between a young woman and the son of a russian oligarch, won the most awards at the Oscars. How quickly things change. I need a #warcoffee

Incredible. Anora, an independent film, wins the Academy Award for Best Picture - made for just SIX MILLION BUCKS!! Proving that the best films are the ones that resonate emotionally with audiences. Not stars. Not hype. Not marketing. BUT HEART.

Anora would not have been my pick of the nominees (I preferred The Brutalist and Nickel Boys), but it's a terrific movie, Sean Baker is the best, and I'm always so glad when an outright comedy wins Best Picture. The cinema!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A data point to ponder: I'm in the WGA, SAG and DGA and this was the first year where almost all the screeners were digital. I think the only movie that sent physical DVDs to all 3 unions was... Anora

Just finished Anora. Having watched Mikey Madison for years on Better Things, I’m not the least bit surprised she has this kind of movie star, hilarious performance in her. I was a bit surprised, though, when Anora went full screwball comedy in its second half. What a delightful, delightful film.

Anora is a very good movie, about everyday people getting crushed by the unseen all-powerful hands of oligarchs whose will they have have very little power to defy. Add to this that the movie was made for so little $$$, its very existence is a very timely shout of resistance. Really great
