Amerzone (also known as Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy, French: L'Amerzone: Le Testament de l'explorateur) is a first-person fantasy graphic adventure game developed and published by Microïds and designed by Benoît Sokal, who based it on his 1986 Inspector Canardo comic strip L'Amerzone. (Let's just hope that this investment for $0.00 is worth it. ) A great adventure game that is still enjoyable nowadays. What makes Amerzone stand apart from other adventure games are things that, at first, might seem like negative aspects: it's easy and it's short. This works in its favour, though, because the adventure never gets tedious and you won't have to resort to old-school habits like pixel hunting and combining every possible object in search of an answer. The story and ambience also…

Yes and no. I picked this up on a deep discount - even though I still have the original four-CD disk set in the original box - just so that I could play on Windoze 11 without having to wonder if the ancient installer still works (and sometimes these old games wouldn't run unless you had the game CD in a drive, and my machine doesn't even have an optical drive), and to compare it with the up-and-coming new remaster. A great trip down memory lane, seems to run just fine, but it really is an…

This game reminded me a lot of Jules Verne's style of storytelling and settings. It is also one of the easier first-person adventure puzzle games out there so it is more accessible than the Myst series. It was also the first game released by Benoit Sokal, the creator of the Syberia series and there is also a remake coming out soon of which I am really interested.

This is a good example of what point and click adventure games were like in the '90s. I played a lot of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games on the PS1 back then. Is it worth playing now? The original, no, it won't appeal to most people. ____________ [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45534557/]Follow my Curator

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy (1999) is an ancient game from 1999. It's a whopping 25 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from…

I only found out that this game exists recently, when the remake has been anounced. I'm a fan of the Syberia games as I played them when I was a young. Playing Benoît Sokal's first game? Sounds fun and it was. The game has a strong 90's aura around it and it felt really great to play it. I think it looks very nice, the sound and music are a noticeably weaker point. The story is.. strange, but fun overall. The game is very short with super easy puzzle elements and and infinite walking speed…

A clunky yet joyful blast from the past combining adventure, exploration and fantastic beasts. Amerzone tells the story of a french journalist who visits an old, dying explorer who confesses that decades ago, during an expedition to a mysterious South American country called Amerzone, he discovered the legendary White Birds. Since these rare creatures were said to have miraculous properties he did what any trueborn western colonialist would have done and promptly stole one of their eggs. This…

Hum... Dated. This is a P&C adventure. The graphics are old as dirt. The music is OK. The story might be the strongest point. Honestly, I stopped playing after an hour because it's just too old and too dark, with outdated mechanics and an overwhelming amount of reading. This game might appeal to nostalgic players and dedicated game archeologists, but apart from some charmingly old-fashioned models and a decent storyline, it offers very little in terms of entertainment. The silver lining is…

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy is an old-school point-and-click adventure game from the creator of Syberia. I like the Syberia series but had never played this one before. Since it was given away for free (probably to promote the remake), I figured I’d finally give it a try. After finishing it, I’ve got pretty mixed feelings. Amerzone is a point & click adventure game in the vein of Myst and Riven. This is the version from 1999, but there is now a remake available, which I may try sometime. It's an atmospheric and interesting adventure. The puzzles aren't too hard, although I did have to consult a walkthrough for some of the trickier ones. I finished it in about 4 hours. The most frustrating part was the river section, where you have to fire a grapnel at rocks ahead of you to move forward. Unless you click…

Amerzone (1999) – Tier C (Free to Keep) Amerzone is a very old game — and you can immediately tell it was released back in 1999. Because of that, you really shouldn’t expect much in terms of modern quality or comfort. The gameplay is point-and-click with no tutorial, no HUD, and no guidance at all. That makes it extremely confusing for new players. I often found myself stuck for long periods, and honestly, I had to rely on a walkthrough just to progress through the puzzles. Visually,…

There is a particular kind of silence in Amerzone, not the atmospheric kind you get in good adventure games, but the kind that happens when you walk into a room and realise nothing is going to happen until you find that one pixel you missed two screens ago. You play as a nameless journalist who breaks into an old man’s lighthouse and then promises to deliver an egg he has kept since the colonial era. The world design is interesting, in theory: industrial decay meets wilderness, but you do not…

It can be difficult reviewing a game using modern lenses since video game standards have changed through time. There are games that age REALLY well and which are still remembered to this day. Then there are games that, despite the technological advancements and ambitious ideas it might've had many years ago, haven't.....aged that well. Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy (1999) is one of those cases. I'll make comparisons to Myst (1993) and Riven (1997) since those are similar point & click games…

Disappointingly un-runnable A nice story game, reminiscent of Riven almost, but destroyed by 2 things. Cutscenes do not playback in any way smoothly enough to even guess what is going on, and graphics are dark and vague in their blockiness. I had hoped that this game was playable, 30 years ago, it might have run quite well, but no longer. For a 1999 release, I'm pretty sure this game was already a bit late to be blunt in my appraisal. However... The inventory system and game mechanics are…

Old school FMV/Myst like point and click adventure. Sadly, some of the fonts are difficult to read at times, which is a problem for an adventure game that relies on narrative and text clues. There is a certain problem in reviewing old games in modern times. Do you say it has dated mechanics? Well, duh, unless it was super innovative when it came out. But is it a flaw? Or is it just something that is part of the package? Obviously, Amerzone is dated. The 360 Myst like controls, the graphics, they scream its' age. Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy is a contemplative point-and-click adventure developed and published by Microids in 1999, and it stands as an early showcase of the studio’s ambition to merge evocative worldbuilding with introspective storytelling. Conceived by Benoît Sokal, the game feels less like a conventional puzzle challenge and more like a quiet journey through memory, regret, and discovery. From its opening moments, it establishes a subdued, almost literary tone, inviting players to slow…

If I played this in 1999, I would probably be amazed by the technicality behind this game, and call it fun. However I was born in 2002, so my review is based on what I know about game development. I'd recommend playing it with a guide, but the "feel" of the game carries gameplay still. Now there is a remaster to this game, but this is not a game that needs a remaster, especially not for 30-40 eu. Buy this version if you wanna check it out.
