42 of 42 · most liked firstWhile I enjoy these types of games and love supporting indie developers, this one falls short. It's overpriced for the amount of content you get – I finished it in 1.5 hours, and there's zero replayability. The puzzles lack challenge, especially for seasoned players. If you're new to the genre, you might find it enjoyable, but I recommend waiting for a sale. At €10, it simply isn’t worth it. There's no real story to get immersed in either. If you're expecting a deep narrative, this isn't the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start by saying I respect indie devs, and I really appreciate that people put lots of effort into creating a fun experience for players! With that said, I'm gonna be critical of this game- especially because I haven't seen that in the other reviews. I think the game is overpriced for the length of the game. This took me 2.2 hours, and I've seen people with 1.5 hours completing this game. The story feels disjointed, like it isn't truly a mystery- rather its a series of disconnected…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →short, simple puzzle-slop game that's barely coherent and contains an unfortunate amount of ai-generated art -- some of which you can see in several of the store page's screenshots. feels overall uninspired and rushed, especially with multiple bugs which hampered progress and apparently failed to unlock several achievements. 3/10 would not recommend
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this non-game says nothing on this page about the obvious AI usage. why is a guy playing a flute like a piano into an 8 ball? the AI disclosure needs to be added NOW. make art or get free stuff, not robotic sludge. NEVER buy anything form this thing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so the first thing this game needs to do is take the investigation tag off, right now. this is a puzzle game. it's not a very hard one either: it's a puzzle game the same way IQ tests and standardized college/grad school exams are puzzles. hell, since it grades you on how many errors and hints you used over the game, it might as well be an IQ test. the puzzles are all, with the kindest words i can describe, bog-standard as bog-standard can be: basic ciphers, follow the trail, and so on. some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun little puzzle game... If you like noir detectives, puzzles, and/or Amsterdam, you can't go wrong with this super funny indie puzzle gem. You play as a narcissistic detective putting together clues to solve a case (or perhaps even more than one...) The game is also hilariously upfront with the fact that it's a straightforward crime solver, by skipping over the details and dropping you straight into a bunch of great puzzles, which are sometimes challenging but never frustrating. Note:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am so sorry to be the party pooper here for the game having 92% positive reviews, but this game is not satisfying for me. Too short (1.5-2 hours of gameplay), too easy (definitely not for an experienced mystery-solver, more like for a starting point if you've never solved puzzles before). It seems the game doesn't want you to emerge into the actual lore and script, just solve kindergarten puzzles all the time. There is no investigation, no "open world", as stated in tags. The puzzles are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short but pretty fun escape room detective game. there are alot of different kinds of puzzles so it doesnt become stale, the puzzles aren't that difficult so for beginners with puzzle games a good choice. The price for this game is sadly way to high though, if i didnt get this as a gift i wouldn't have bought it without a very high discount.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun idea for a game, but experiencing a lot of bugs in a short time. First I got locked in Act II because there was nothing to do according to the game, and now I'm locked in the hotel room because there's no more evidence popping up... Shame... There's also an annoying thing happening where the game thinks you're double clicking, causing you to have extra "mistakes" that get your rating down... Best to get this at a sale due to the short nature of the game and the bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm having so much fun with this game! I like Mystery City's offline games so much that I signed up for Steam in order to play this. It's got a fun noir feel while you're solving logic puzzles in Amsterdam. Must go back to playing now...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Always liked detective stories and this one hooked me right from the start. The mystery is intriguing and interesting, without being boring and repetitive. Would definitely recommend to all lovers of detective or mystery stories.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun puzzle game. Enjoyed the different types of puzzles it throws at you. Always nice to play something that has some historical significance and is fun at the same time :) Would definitely recommend playing this on a rainy day with some smooth jazz in the background for the proper feel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute game. A friend told me about it and so far I'm having fun. The graphics are beautiful, and I feel like a cop in an old movie.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far so good! I love little puzzle games and I've been enjoying this one a lot. The theme and graphics is really cool. As an Amsterdammer it is extra fun to play in a different era of the city, and am enjoying the little references for the insiders :). Would recommend! Very fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Freakin' love this one! The puzzles are a blast. I did some on my own, then my girlfriend joined and we tackled some more together. The whole noir style, the Amsterdam setting, the puzzle art direction - seriously pulled me in and I didn't realize how much time had gone by. Well done, Mystery City Games. More please!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasn't great, pretty janky. Puzzles weren't very fun. Only really worth when it's heavily on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a little too buggy for me: - I got softlocked out of the game after going back to the menu by accident once, and I saw someone had the same issue apparently - Some puzzles don't work as well, like this specific map puzzle where for some reason I can move the map *off-screen* and then accidentally trigger a WAY EARLIER point of interest, making me redo some stuff AGAIN I mean, did I finish it? Of course, there's not a lot of detective games out there. Until they fix some of the bugs, I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clever puzzle game with various different types of puzzles. Excellent sense of detail and playful humour. I like that it is tied to real locations which adds a lot of depth and story given its not completely fictional. Good brain teaser and fun play through.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I managed to solve a few of the early puzzles. Good fun! I'm looking forward to the rest
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not enough games like this! Fun, challenging puzzle game wrapped in a murder mystery and a great setting, with enough intrigue to keep you guessing! Having a great time with it and can't wait to see more
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The puzzles are decent and I like the visual style. However, for its asking price the game is too short IMO (only a single case), so I'd recommend waiting for a discount. There's also still an almost game-breaking bug near the end. When you get to the hotel room and can't click on the suitcase (or the window cord/name tag): exit from the game, then resume, then go to the police HQ and enter the computer room, then return to the hotel by clicking on the "Hotel" link above. The evidence should…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The description of the game sounded promising, but the game ultimately left me unconvinced. The lack of a meaningful context makes the experience feel shallow—there’s no thrill, no excitement, just fragments of a narrative with little depth. On the bright side, some of the puzzles were genuinely enjoyable. However, most were fairly easy, and even when stuck, it’s possible to guess your way through many of them or rely on hints. Overall, while the game has its moments, it doesn’t fully deliver…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The opening comic book graphic is very cool. Been playing around the world. The puzzles are a little hard, but I feel like a detective figuring them out. The whole thing together is really cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a super cool game! Based on a true story, sick graphic and very fun puzzles! SO FUN!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended, as a single-night investigation built from one clever puzzle after another. Dozens of self-contained minigames dressed as forensics give the case its shape, from chemical-formula assembly and transit-ticket route tracing to squat-window logic grids and beer-label cartography, each with a real idea inside a familiar form. The soundtrack is strong enough to sit on the title screen for, and the wry writing keeps the whole night humane. The resolution lands as tragedy rather than a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i mean it's really not bad, kinda wonky at times. a short point and click game, solving/deducing is essentially just minigames +the music was nice overall i mostly liked it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not really investigation, mostly just puzzles. Kinda disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, the puzzles are mostly simplistic, except for one (the Subway) that doesn't really give clear enough instructions. The final scene is broke in two different ways, so you get frustrated unless you waste a hint and realize you're just not able to click on the items. Had to return to HQ then go back for one and quit the game and restart it for the other. Two achievements also seem to be broke.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. A detective point and click game is very much my genre. Maybe I'm just too dumb for these types of games (although I absolutely slay at Shadows of Doubt so it's not that I'm a terrible detective) but the puzzles in this game seemed impossible. Impossible, confusing, unclear and frustrating. Nine times out of ten I bluffed my way through and when I couldn't do that I decided that this game wasn't for me. Maybe if you're smarter than me or have more patience…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too many bugs and too easy but clunky to enjoy. Maybe worth your money if it drop below 4$
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dr. Leyton style puzzles, simple enough but decent narrative, worth it for under a fiver
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play a lot of detective games. This game had some potential, but its not worth the price as the game stands. There is no real mystery, just a bunch of (not so challenging) puzzles. I managed to soft lock myself after an hour and a half of play. I could get back from a new game if i wanted, and may do so in the future, but it will take some time. For a first time developer effort its competent, but the game needs something extra it doesn't have right now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"A death in the Red light" is an interesting detective game with lots of mini games. The mini games are easy to understand and offer a good variety of tasks. The game is fairly short (about an 90 minutes maybe?) but there seems to be one bug that has prevented players from progressing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gonna give this a thumbs up, though there a few problems with. I like the style of it, though the same music gets irritating after a while. And then I got stuck on the very first chapter as the info you collect and then have to enter is wrong. I just happened to see what to enter while watching the trailer for it. It showed what to enter. So that caused me some problems. As for the achievements, I have no clue how t get 2 of them, and I have played this 4 times. Seems like most of us have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, but short. Get it when it's on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this was a lot of fun, it was a bit on the short side. You may want to wait for a sale. That being said, I hope to see more games like this. The puzzles were varied and relevant to the story and were a lot of fun (and not too difficult).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid puzzle game. Anyone who enjoys escape rooms, and all their different kinds of puzzles will definitely find this one enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like puzzle games and I think these puzzles are very creative! I can't wait to solve the mystery...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been playing this for a bit and it's super fun! The graphics are beautiful and it takes me back to my childhood of 90s kid computer games. Guess I'll be here for a while more....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great puzzle game, with a cool storyline and plot twists!
