A Bridge Too Far
The story of Operation Market Garden—a failed attempt by the allies in the latter stages of WWII to end the war quickly by securing three bridges in Holland allowing access over the Rhine into Germany. A combination of poor allied intelligence and the presence of two crack German panzer divisions meant that the final part of this operation (the bridge in Arnhem over the Rhine) was doomed to failure. (Sosabowski's story is incredible, and also reflects incredibly poorly on the snobby Brits who tried to shift blame onto him for the failures of Market Garden.) www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/o...

unlabelledView post →Is A BRIDGE TOO FAR (1977) thr most quintessential dad film ever made? The all star male cast and the sheer logistical grandeur of this film makes it impossible to dislike. This is despite its somewhat bloated narrative and the sheer bloody British stiff upper lip of it all.

By the time the filmmakers curbed all those roosters' egos, they were quite weary. A lesson in how not to make a movie.
